I hope this has not already been posted on the forum but the Celtics missed on Kevin Durant, however they are now in strong position for Westbrook if the Thunder decideds to trade him.  The Celitcs have been waiting for a superstar to come onto the market and if the Thunder can not get Westbrook to agree with a contract restructure, trading him seems like the best option; this way they do not loose two superstars in consecutive summers for nothing. My quetion to the forum is – who can make a better offer for Westbrook the lakers or the celtics? Keep in mind Westbrook would have to agree to resign with either team because no GM, not even Mitch Kupchak would break the bank for an one year rental.

Any offer the Lakers make would deplete the team of their talent (Russell, Ingram, Randle) and make it highly unlikely for Westbrook to resign there, so I think the Celtics have the better chance trading for him of the two.

I think both teams could offer similar packages to enhance the okc roster but my question is why should either team. I think Russell wants to go to LA next year so why trade valuable assets for him. Personally I think the rookie contracts are worth more then gold after seeing these contracts go out. I also think the celts can sit back and wait a year let this gs and cavs battle play out and get a star in Heyward and keep there assets. To answer your question I’d take the Celtics.I believe those nets picks Are the most valuable assets in the nba you add smart a young tough point guard and a guy like crowder and they can still compete and have a bright future.

Assuming they could get him to resign for long term in Boston, who would say no to the trade of:

Westbrook to the Celtics creating a deep roster with stars now as well

Isaiah Thomas, Brooklyn 2017 pick (top 3 more than likely) and a young role player the Celtics won’t use like a RJ Hunter back to OKC…

Not usually one to post trade suggestions, and it may get nagged but I feel the small market of OKC has the best chance of rebuilding through the draft while getting a few proven pieces in return.

That’s an easy one. The Celtics have way more (and better) pieces. Outside of Deng, Mozgov and Ingram (who aren’t going anywhere), all the Lakers really have to offer is D Russell, Louis Williams, Julius Randle or mediocre pieces like Nick Young. Boston could offer a rising star in Thomas, Avery Bradley, or Crowder and pair them with one of their younger pieces (Smart or Hunter) or a big man (Olynyk, Sullinger, or the rights to Zizic and Yabusele).

The Celtics can wait on Westbrook a bit, if they hear noises he’d like to go there then nab him nearer to deadline day so they don’t give up too much for him or even wait until FA next summer and make a play for him.

I think there is a decent deal to be made there, lets see who gets the upper hand between Ainge and Presti.

Thunder would rebuild and wait out the GSW superteam era, C’s would contend now.

Boston receives: Russell Westbrook, Steven Adams

OKC receives: Both nets picks, Smart, Rozier, Hunter, Young, Brown, Olynyk, Mickey

Boston’s roster: Westbrook, Bradley, Crowder, Horford, Adams

OKC roster: Oladipo, Smart, Brown, Mickey, Kanter.  Plus a good shot at 2 top 3 picks in the 2017-18 drafts.

No question the C’s have more to offer and would be the better fit for Westbrook after the deal.

Danny’s going to sit back and wait on OKC. OKC needs to do this deal now that Durant is gone.

There is no question that every GM knows the position the C’s are in and that they have the most to offer in a trade.

Also, it moves RW out of the West. Not the most important consideration, but it does help.

At the end of the day, I think it comes down to RW more than the teams; will he sign a long-term deal as part of the trade?

OKC is said to want a kings ransom for a top 5 player. And they should want it. But I am not sure Westbrook will sign with anybody no matter what. I would think I looks to FA and signs where he wants to.

So if I am the Celtics/Lakers I don’t gut the team to get him. Sure if he agrees to an extension I would make a trade.

Ingram is a know player. Picks are just could be this guy. So I would think Ingram and Russell would be the best offer.

Celtics could send Smart, Dunn and a pick.

That is a tough choice. I would flip a coin lol

If Russell says he is not staying(I Hope that he does want to stay though to see MVP Russell happen)

Russell could get the Thunder a lot of assets the past shows it can happen:All these players were on the last year of their deals and said they wouldn’t resign…

Situation 1: Dwight to LA creating a 3 team trade(I think it was philly, denver and LA) Dwight left though

Situation 2:Kevin love to Cavs for Wiggins,Bennet and a pick I think which the flipped into Thad Young…With K-love signing on with the Cav’s

Situation 3: Mello and billups to NYK for Danillo,Wilson Chandler,Mosgov a 2014 pick and rights to switch picks in 2016 ..

Situation 4:Cp3+ 2x 2nd rounders to Hornets for Eric gordon, aminu,Chris Kaman,+1st round pick which they wasted on rivers-instead of founier,Henson, and many  others..

Situation 5: Deron williams for Derrick Favors,Devin Harris and two first round picks (Kanter and trey burke essentially)

So People need to realize a lot can be gotten for a Star player/Franchise player if you trade them at the right time..However that is the thing trading at the right time and the right team to get it from…

This is why Ingram and Dangello russell for Westbrook isn’t as impossible as people may think it is.

If I am Westbrook I wait and play out the season – not give any team confirmation of signing long-term.

If I am Presti, the Brooklyn picks are where I’m focused.

I actually think Utah would be a good destination for Westbrook – basketball wise.

Just as an example, say they gave up Exum, Lyles and Hayward (too much? not enough? doesn’t work?)

    UTA:
Starters: Westbrook – Joe Johnson – Hood – Favors – Gobert
Bench: Hill – Burks – Diaw

    OKC:
Starters: Exum – Oladipo – Hayward – Lyles – Adams
Bench: Payne – Roberson – Sabonis – Kanter

Utah would have to be happy with that. Hayward wants out apparently anyway.
OKC would have to be happy as well if the alternative is Russ bolting for free.
