GlenTaylorSucksParticipantHoly crap this is a bad deal. They already have Lillard and CJM as primary ball handlers, and he cant shoot The 3 ball. ET as a 3nD guy only works if he can, you know, actually shoot. This might actually be even more of an overpay than Mozgov.

BleedGreen808ParticipantI love what Evan Turner did in Boston and I’m glad he got paid but this is a bad fit. He was successful in Boston hecause he was able to play with the ball in his hands. His awful 3pt shooting percentage will let his defender sag on Lillard or McCollum drives.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantHorrible deal. Blazers are usually so smart with money too.

BiggysmallsParticipantWon’t he still come off the bench and essentially run that second unit for Portland?
It’s a bad fit if he’s their starting SF, though Lilard and McCollum are both terrific shooters which can offset Turners lack of shooting.
Would’ve loved to see the Blazers land Parsons and Howard. That wouldve put them on the fasttrack back to contention. Don’t love Turner as much.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipant70 mill for a 6th man? Wow. Ok.

kobyzParticipant6th man that could play 3 positions, so he could get more minutes than regular sixth man…

circumlocution75Participant2nd pick in the 2010 Draft by the Sixers —– he would not be judged so harshly
Turner is a solid Pro, 10 pts 5 Reb 4 Ast about 44% FG% – mature, unselfish
He’s not a great player & he can Not shoot the 3 ball at all — But
Portland cleaned house last summer —- they got rid of 5 of their top 6 scorers & began a youth movement centered around their Star Damian Lillard.
So Portland has their #1 & #2 scoring options in their back court with Lillard & McCollum — so I really like Turner as a Good fit in Portland & a Veteran presence on a Young playoff team.

giddyup123ParticipantI actually think this is a really nice piece for the blazers. 4 years at 17.5 million per sounds extreme but on the market this year, its really not excessive. Especially when you effectively have to overpay guys to get above the league minimum payroll. Also, I think more than anything this year’s playoffs showed that players with glamour and finesse may be overrated, and that guys with length, versatility, and grit are underrated. Evan Turner adds length, D, playmaking, and unselfishness to a team that already has shooting and offensive firepower. Think Livingston, Iguodala, Tristan Thompson on this pick up and I think it really becomes reasonable. Adding Parsons at 100 million/4 years with his knees and game is a serious gamble without a lot of upside. Similarly, remember there really just arn’t that many superstars in free agency that are available.

benny15Participantim with you here. i honestly feel that this isnt that bad of an acquisition. i also felt that the blazzers were doing there offensive schemes simillar to golden state and that fits this mold. i know dame and cj are really talented guards but theyre also the primary scorers on the team, and as much as you live with the early shot taken by your best players, youd still want to limit it and not be excessive.
golden state addressed this issue by basically making draymond green their eric snow on offense, bringing the ball down and setting up the half court sets. they bring in iguodala off the to do so as well. this allows curry to play more off ball and the ball rotation gets going more often. since aminu can guard perimeter and post simillar to what draymond does but not set up the offense like him, they went out and got even turner to do that role on offense. i think they may have lost some abilities in the deffensive end with harkless moving to the bench if not another team but time will tell if the more dynamic offensive schemes will be better for them in the long run.

Jr. ROXASParticipant"I also felt that the blazzers were doing there offensive schemes simillar to golden state and that fits this mold." Oh man, now that you think about it, I couldn’t agree more. A fat +1 for that.
It was pretty noticable during the season that Portland run a lot of GSW’s sets, with Plumlee (who is a RIDICULOUSLY good passer and ball-handler) as their Draymond Green/Andrew Bogut. And their offense looked reaalllyyyy nice doing that especially in the playoffs.
Now with Evan Turner, they have their Draymond/Iggy to pair with their version of Bogut. Dame and CJ would wreak havoc coming of flare screens. And even if Turner’s 3-ball isn’t great, his mid-range game is still absolute money.

kobyzParticipantHe will be their sixth man instead of Crab, will not start at SF, Ther’s No need to take out Aminu who was big surprise for them last season and is great defender…

IndianaBasketballParticipantIt’s a steep price lol, but I like Turner with this group. Teams are starting to give Lillard the Steph treatment where he’s getting hedged/doubled on every screen, so they can use another ball handler. You can put the ball in Turner’s hands and move Lillard around off of the ball to get him free.
I like him as their 6th man.

HitsterParticipantGreat deal for Evan especially as the 76ers decided he wasn’t part of their long term plans – he’s probably got great financial security now.
We have to take stock of these new deals – $15 million a year is almost what $8 to $10 million was a year or two back.
