IndianaBasketballParticipantSo the 12 man Olympic roster has basically been announced.
G – Irving, Lowry, Thompson, Butler and DeRozan
F – Durant, Anthony, Green, George and Barnes
C – Cousins and Jordan
Who starts and what’s your depth chart? Been debating with my girl about this lol. Predicting the backcourt was easy. Predicting center was sort of easy too. Cousins is more talented and a better player, but we went with Jordan because of his defense, athleticism and screen setting. We’re stuck on the 3 and 4 though. I think Durant and Green. She thinks Durant and Anthony, due to Anthony’s tenure. We’ve got:
PG: Irving; Lowry
SG: Thompson; Butler; DeRozan
SF: Durant; George; Barnes
PF: Anthony; Green (Green; Anthony)
C: Jordan; Cousins

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantCousins has more experience with team usa. He will probably get the start.

dremill24ParticipantI think Jordan, Barnes, and maybe Derozan will be the 10, 11, 12 guys who won’t get much time in close games. I’m sure Green will slide to the 5 a lot unless a certain match-up needs Jordan.
Then again most of the games will be blowouts so they’ll probly all get time anyway

DanielcmccartyParticipantI am very supportive of USA basketball. It’s also a huge commitment to play because it virtually gives you no time off for the summer and you pretty much come back and go straight to training camp. So while I’m very appreciative of the players who are in, it’s disappointing to be missing some huge names. I do understand why some choose to take off, especially if they’ve already represented and won a gold.
I think there’s more talent on that roster despite not having 2-3 starters then any of the competition, but that’s an inexperienced roster as far as the actual olympics are concerned outside of Durant and Melo. Coach K should have those guys ready to go.

DanielcmccartyParticipantAnd I wouldn’t assume all games are gonna be blowouts. This team would get destroyed by the 2008 and 2012 teams. And that 2008 team with Kobe still in his prime, Lebron, Wade, Carmelo, got pushed to the last two minutes against Spain with guys like Rudy Fernandez, the gasol brothers(Marc was young at that time) and Juan Carlos nevaro and a 17 year old Ricky Rubio. The international game is a bit different and most of those teams have been playing together for years. And we throw a final roster together today. So USA is always behind in the chemistry department. They are the favorites but this USA team isn’t loaded like 2008 and 2012

TarHeelRavenParticipantThis team is not guaranteed the gold by any stretch of the imagination. Steph and Lebron forgoing the Olymics because of playing late into the season and going to a game 7 in the NBA finals is definitely understandable. I believe we have seen the last of Lebron on the Olympic team. I seriously doubt he plays in 2020 when he will be 35 with another 4 years of wear and tear on his body. but you never know. The games in the knockout round should be close and I’m just assuming we will make it out of group play.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantFirst 5 will be: Kyrie, PG, KD, Melo, Boogie
They usually keep it to a 9 man rotation with a 10th periodically getting some minutes based on matchup or foul trouble. So the guys off the bench getting regular mins will be Lowry, Jimmy, Klay, & Draymond.
DJ could be a serious problem in INT’L ball with the goaltending rule and how much more athletic he is than any Center in the tournament, but idk how many minutes the staff will be comfortable giving him. DeRozan is who he is, slasher/transition finisher. Barnes won’t see the court unless it’s garbage time

pokieParticipantI’m surprised Rudy Gay is not included. He basically volunteered to replace Paul George and saved Team USA’s bacon at World’s in 2014. I hope Jerry does not forget that.

Hype MachineThis tournament sucks…
Whilst team USA is missing some of their big names, so is every other country.
And other countries rely on their stars a lot more because there is a steeper dropoff in talent due to less depth.
No Simmons, Antetokoumo, Wiggins….I could go on.
Its a real buzzkill…this tournament could be the end of Olympic basketball as we know it because there is just no commitment from the best players.
Im not even hypped for the Australia vs USA anymore because we are missing our best players and only real shot at a win. Not even good excuses…they just dont care.
Bogut: Knee sprain that will be 100% recovered already.
Exum: Cleared to play but doesnt want to risk it
Simmons and Maker: Choosing Summer League instead

pokieParticipantThey did leave Rudy Gay off. Unbelievable. In 2004 when Team Argentina (most of whom had been playing together since they were kids) won the Gold, Jerry Colangelo asked for long term commitments from players who wanted to represent The States. Rudy has been all in since 2005. He has won three Golds: 2005 Global Games, 2010 FIBA Worlds, and the 2014 World Cup. Basically, he has been in the trenches securing position and seeding for the big shoe contract guys who can’t be bothered to show up at the events that don’t boost their market share. Now most of these guys don’t even want to go to Rio. So a perfect opportunity to repay Rudy for his commitment to USA Basketball arises and what does Jerry Colangelo do? He selects Harrison Barnes? I have nothing against Barnes but he’s young enough to play in 2020 or 2024. THIS summer was the time to hit Rudy back. Disgusting. Rudy has been all in for Jerry and USA Basketball. It’s a shame Jerry and USA Basketball are apparently not all in for Rudy. A plague on both their houses…

Untouchable JParticipantStarters: Kyrie, Klay, KD, Melo (honorary vet start), Cousins
6th man: George, off the bench but top 3 in scoring ala 2012 Melo
Big minutes off the bench: Lowery (only other pg), Draymond (play the 4 and 5)
Ho Hum minutes: Butler- his game may not translate well here
Chritsian Laetner status: Barnes, Derozn, Deandre
