What can the Kings do from here?

im a little biased in that i lived in sac for 7 years and while im far from a kings fan, i want to see the team do well and the city have a good product to watch. I think some of the negativity towards the organization is unwarranted.

First off you say its painfully obvious vlade doesnt know how to build a team. Vlade hasnt even been in charge for 1 year. He took over last august. Can we at least give him 12 months before we decide he sucks? I mean hes not working with a full a deck. the team made bad draft choice after bad draft choice before he took over. Free agents dont want to be there unless they get overpaid(see rudy gay). Rookies dont want to be there and wont work out for the team. The star player has a bad attitude.

Im not defending vlade or the moves he has made or this most recent draft. All of it looks suspect. But he went into a bad situation, had a head coach in george karl that was doing shady stuff working the phones behind the gm’s back basically sabotaging any chance of cohesion within the organization.

The team has a brand new arena opening this year, a new ownership group that bought the team a couple years ago and has shown willingness to spend money something the maloofs stopped doing around 2005.

Its not a good situation right now, but lets give this current management some time. People are lumping the past decade all together with vlade which isnt fair.

They should trade Cousins before the start of next season. They have alot of talent on that roster, starting with last years first round pick Willie Caluey-Stein.

They could offer him to the Lakers for Russell and Ingram.

I would keep cousins and wouldn’t shop him at all.

I would go after chandler parsons in free agency, convince him that him and gay could play together as a small ball front court. Bring rondo back and now you have a team that could compete for a playoff spot

 Isn’t Vlade’s assistant GM Peja Stojackovic? The Kings desperately need someone in the front office who knows how to build a team. If the owners really want Vlade as the GM then they need to hire a special advisor who can teach and guide Vlade through the process. The owners needs to not mettle with what’s happening because I heard he was the one who wanted Nik Stauskas a few years ago when their analytics people all said to take Elfrid Payton.

They actually had a better than expected draft in spite of the uncertainties of Papagiannis, plus they have flexibilities moving into the next season, a lot of their guys are entering contract years. I will stay put and take the wait and see approach to see how this team work together for at least couple of months before the trade deadline pass.

I’m going to play devil’s advocate. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of what they did on draft day, but let me present a point of view.

First, saying Vlade clearly has no idea what he is doing is silly. He’s been doing this for far too little of a time and his moves haven’t been bad at all. He inhereted a team that had a lot of problems but didn’t have an obvious solution. You are much better off when you can pick a position and say- we need to improve here. Instead he came in and it looked like there were a few nice pieces here and there, but you could improve in every area except for Cousins (he needs to improve himself).

So you start to focus. He went after bigs in a big-heavy draft instead of reaching for guards he didn’t think were the right fit. He had 3 legit bigs which I think is the perfect number and drafted 2 more that have potential. We all know when you have a strength, you can trade from it to help your weaknesses. The problem is when you make that trade you don’t want to lose much from the strength. You don’t want your bigs to become a vulnerability because you trade away a piece. If you trade Cousins as an example you don’t want a big in return because that means you are trading a great piece for several mediocre pieces. This is where teams make mistakes- Ok I’m giving you my center so I need a center in return. Cool, but that just took away from the value coming in for the other team, so now Cousins is worth Cousins minus the center I just gave you. Now if you have backup you can trade Cousins, get no big in return, and focus on getting a (potential) all star (not as good as Cousins, but in a position of need) guard and possibly a pick or other piece.

If you don’t trade Cousins you can feel more comfortable trading WCS for a young guard. Maybe you can trade Koufos for a pick or a guard. But whatever you do it makes you better because you had major excess in the position just traded away anyway.

I do a lot of hiring for companies and I prefer they get the right person even if the timing would dictate they need to hire immediately. Bringing on the wrong person can be very difficult to escape from. In the NBA you can’t just cut that guy without hurting yourself, trades aren’t always easy, if he’s a bad fit his value will drop and you’re getting pennies on the dollar. 

Keep in mind they fired the coach because he was unable to get the team to play up to its potential. Remember McLemore was coming off a pretty solid season in which he grew on both O and D before dropping off last year.

This is the roster if the Kings do nothing but resign Seth Curry. I just don’t see where all of this doom and gloom stuff is coming from. It’s not like they were planning to compete for a Championship this year so who cares if the structure (I don’t mean foundation) isn’t exactly what you want at this point? You don’t always build a team that way! I know we tend to think that, evidenced by the all time draft I’ve watched in the forum lately, but this could be a better way to build given the position they were in. What I mean is I would rather have all of the bigs of the future set and struggle, because the team is weak at the 1 and 2, than have the right positions but entire roster mediocrity. I know the following year I will have better draft position than my talent level suggests I should have and can focus on getting the right 1 and 2 through draft, trade, or FA, rather than entire roster mediocrity.

Lastly, am I the only one that sees Labissiere possibly potentially playing the 3 a little like AK-47 on occasion?
