BasketballGuru24ParticipantSo it looks like Serge Ibaka is on the trading block. Ibaka has become a much better spot up shooter and stretched out the offense. At the same time, he hasn’t been great defensively and on the glass. I don’t know what the thunder are fielding for him ?
What teams could be interested in him ?

TRC1991ParticipantOverrated. Inconsistent and painfully stiff.

timinator1Participant… but Golden State would love him.
Another spot for him would be Portland, but not sure what they’d have that OKC wants.

OhCanada-ParticipantOn paper Toronto would be a great fit. Ibaka for Ross and the 9 works perfectly if Casey could light a fire under his arse and get him back to his all defensive ways. But if he comes in with a premadonna attitude it would be very risky.

Untouchable JParticipantNo. People are getting a lil too fancy with Minnestoa’s #5. The way i see it there are 4 legit all stars in this draft: Simmons and Ingram of course, then Dunn and Murray. Minnesota should get 1. Sit tight.

kobyzParticipantYou underrated ibaka, he is probably the most unique player in the league with his skills set and perfect match for wolves…

XYRYXParticipantI don’t think this really is true. His numbers went a little bit downhill the last two years but his contract 12.25 mio for the next two years each if I’m not mistaken are a pretty good value considering how much better he got shooting the ball from the outside. And I don’t believe Kanter and Adams are good enough defensively to get rid of Serge.
On the other hand they still need a SG and Serge might be the only valuable piece who can bring in someone like Affalo or better. I hope he stays and this is nothing but a rumor come draft day.

Untouchable JParticipantThe problem is…Ibaka is a 5. Him as a 5 is potentially first team NBA, considering Deandre Jordan holds that title now (lol). You play him at the 4 your team instantly becomes slow and plodding.

XYRYXParticipantwhile I see your point as Serge became basically Dwight light as he patrolled the paint as a younger guy, I think Ibaka along with Kanter and especially Adams worked pretty well for the Thunder last time I checked during the playoffs.
To be honest I had the same thoughts about him record the playoffs and thought he might be the one expendable but right now he is basically Kevin Love with defense and on a much better contact which isn’t too bad. If they don’t get anything like Afflalo and filler or pick or something like McCollum I don’t trade him. I know his limitations pretty well and that are ball handling, creating his own shot, low post offense and finally his non existent passing game but he just made the transition to being a stretch 4 and the only reason why his rebounding dropped and his blocks as well is because he is more valuable out of the paint and I’m okay with that since Adams and Kanter more than make up for that.
Again, I see the point and also think Ibaka might be the one who seems expendable but I hope they keep him as I see him not only as an anchor of their defense but also as a key going forward. I think he has still room to grow and think one day he can be an All Star, he’s not too far off being that.

sweaterflexParticipantIt might be difficult to swing but Ibaka for Middleton would be a great fit for both teams. The Thunder are at their best with either Durant at the 4 or with the twin towers. With Middleton, the Thunder would be able to play devastatingly fast. The Bucks need rim protection and floor spacing, which Ibaka can provide, and he may appreciate a bump in offensive role.

CavFanPRParticipantMiddleton for Ibaka sounds like a great deal for both sides. The Thunder haven’t been able to fill their shooting guard position effectively since they traded away Harden. That’s a pretty long time. Middleton would give the Thunder a wicked defensive backcourt along with Westbrook. Those two along with Durant, as long as he resigns, would create problems defensively against any team.

NZBennyParticipantEveryone on here is massively undervaluing Ibaka. Did you not watch the conferences semis. I aka was switching all over the perimeter against the Warriors without any issues, and his spacing is pretty elite for a defensive big. While everyone goes on about his declining block numbers, those are hugely overrated. Players can put up lots of blocks without being elite defenders (whiteside pre all star break), but ibaka was elite this year (3rd in the league I think) at defending the rim according to opponent fg% (10% lower than usual). Add to that his willing acceptance of a lesser offensive role for the good of the team and it blows my mind how people think he’s got bad attitude. He is possibly the best non-superstar big in the NBA, and with one more cheap year he is a top trade bait.
I agree with whoever said he would be perfect because KAT (if maybe a little old), but the Timberwolves would need to give up LaVine plus #5 for the thunder to consider it. Likewise Middleton plus #10, but if I were presti I would hold out for another future protected 1st as well or a big body as well. As great as KD is as a 4, if he played there all season he would wear down, and Kanter and Adams isn’t a regular season big duo, it’s a situational weapon against teams who play big a lot or who don’t have quick iso guards
If the thunder want to cut salary, trade Kanter for a late 1st
