 Memphis have under $50 million in guaranteed contracts for next season – factor in Conley whose potential new deal would be $20 million plus and a $9.4 million team option on Lance looks decent value. A lot will depend on what new Head Coach David Fizdale’s views on Lance are.

Memphis if they did lose Conley via FA are a team who could easily go into rebuild. Z-Bo will be in the last year of his deal and on $10 million would be an attractive target for a contender looking for a veteran presence. Marc Gasol is under contract for another 3 seasons and at 31 years old his trade value will not get any higher so if Memphis cash in on him then now could be the time to do so.

The Pacers don’t have room for another ball dominant guard who can’t shoot. They already have Ellis and Stuckey.

I liked Stephenson’s competitiveness and entertainment factor, but he hasn’t really improved his game. His defense has slipped some and he still struggles just making the simple play. He wasn’t a great shooter with the Pacers, but he at least knocked down 35% on a few attempts. He’s worse than that now.

It’s not like they’re a big FA destination, they won’t find a weapon as versatile as him for $9 mil in this market and with it being a contract year, he’ll be extra motivated to have a strong season and stay focused. They have the no-nonsense veteran leadership to keep him in check and he fills a tailor made role on that team.
