chaParticipantIm not particularly sure as to why I only thought about it just now..
Ben Simmons reminds me alot of Juius Randle.
Both are quick for their position, have great handles and terrific vision. It’s like they’re the lesser version of LeBron James.
Before you guys freak out over this comparison I would like to disclose that yes I am a Lakers fan and that I don’t believe that Randle or even Ben has the same type of natural talent as LeBron has as I believe that they are a notch or two lower.
However looking at it, Julius and Ben couldn’t be more similar if they tried: they have ideal height for their position, explosive, quick, good frame (although one is more physical which I will get to in a bit) and extraordinary versatilitiy, they can’t shoot to save their lives and have a short wingspan.
The differences are there and Ive tried to compile them as best as I could:
1) Ben can dribble and finish with both hands – compared to Randle he’s superior.
2) Julius is much more explosive and physical – I haven’t seen enough of Simmons to completely convey however just by the eye test Randle is a physical specimen and plays like it. Simmons is a standout rebounder in college (based on numbers alone) and Julius is a rebounding machine in the NBA.
3)Simmons finishes better on the rim – Randle has this awkward way about him and his short wingspan is exposed each time he tries to finish at the rim – it really shows that he can’t punish players with years of experiences and who are as strong and/or longer than he is.
4) Julius is ahead of Simmons with his jump shooting mechanics as well as he should be – he’s had 2 years in the NBA and 1 year of playing under his belt. I expect Ben Simmons to develop a jumpshot by year 2 or 3.
5) Lastly, Simmons has a feel for the game that tells me he can be one of the greats. Randle does not have a tunnel vision however it will take a few hours in the video room to improve his deicison making/reading of the offensive flow. Simmons just has ‘it’. Whatever ‘it’ is – all the great ones have it. They see the game in such a way that a play has yet to develop and he’s already there in that moment ready to make a decision and frankly I feel like Ben once he establishes his jumpshot, itll be over.

ravneetsingh07ParticipantThey do play the same position, which is why I think Ingram is the better fit. I also see the similarities in attacking the paint and post play, but Simmons can actually play in the pick and roll as the ball handler. That’s what makes him so unique. Lakers should be happy if Ingram falls. He will be a natural fit.

kobyzParticipantI think you have to go with Ingram as number 1 as a more sure thing prospect to pan out and be a top player, Ingram has very good chances to be somthing between Paul Pierce and Durant level player… Simmons has more question marks to become a superstar because his mold as a player has more translate to do for the nba, and also his game attitude not good and how much will to win he has…
