morestealsthanscoresParticipant…and the moment it’s a Sixers trade, it’s controversial 😉
Here’s a few things we know:
– The Sixers want to get better quickly
– The Sixers are currently unbalanced, with too many big guys
– The Sixers need shootingSo to solve this…why not…Okafor+the Lakers pick next year…to the Lakers for #2?
Balance the trade with whatever assets you want either way, or flip Okafor to a third team for assets if you want, but that’s the concept.
The Sixers do well out of it, because they have an all-star frontcourt set for the next five years. Ingram/Simmons/Noel is a great balance of playmaking, shooting and defense – and with three athletic big men, you could pretty much switch everything. You might struggle with some really strong, traditional post players, but apart from that, that’s a combination that gets you into the top 5 in the league in about 5 years. After one or two years, it’s also extremely attractive to free agents, who you have room to sign because of the rookie contracts – Westbrook and Paul are both coming up, and their window is closing. You’ve also got a more natural rotation with Saric and Embiid backing these guys up – letting you go super small, much bigger, or anywhere in between.
The Lakers do well out of it, because they pick up a talented big man, but more importantly, they’re back in charge of their own destiny in terms of that pick. If they want to tank for a year, get rid of every veteran on the roster, or whatever else, they can do a lot to make that pick a top 5 pick. It’s much more valuable in their hands than in the Sixers hands – because if the Sixers own it, they do the exact opposite! But this way, the Lakers get a chance to grab Isaac/Tatum/Jackson and roll out a lineup of Clarkson/Russell/2017 pick/Randle/Okafor (or trade Randle/Okafor to get a better fit in the frontcourt).
Tell me why that couldn’t work (if you balanced it as you saw fit). The concept makes sense.

Hype MachineSorry steals…
I dont think the Lakers are up for that.
Is it just me..or has there been absolutely zero interest on this forum from fans of other teams for Jahlil Okafor.
Its just 76ers fans trying to swindle other teams for a player they dont want themselves.
Eg…as a Jazz fan I wouldnt trade anyone on the roster outside of Trey Burke for Okafor.
Seriously…is there any fans of other teams that are prepared to give up a starter or top 10 pick for Okafor?

dremill24ParticipantFor what it’s worth..the Suns forums I visit are generally very ok with sending #4 for Okafor. Some are even willing to add Knight if Philly adds something small like Covington or #24. Especially if Bender is gone at that point.
I’m not sure if I agree with it, or what PHX fans here think, but just throwing it out there for ya.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantHype Machine – I’m actually close to your way of thinking – I’m not a huge fan as I don’t know where he fits in the modern NBA. But in the right circumstance, he could still be really effective – if I was the Knicks, for instance, I’d love to put him next to Porzingis.
But that’s why I liked the combo of Okafor and the pick – if you do your job as GM, then that pick becomes the most important asset – I’d try to make sure it didn’t drop outside the top 3. That means I get two talented players for the price of one. And if I’m the Lakers, I’m buying into the late first round to get a guy like Thon Maker who is another guy who would fit really nicely alongside Okafor.

Hype MachineCould work, I’ll see what the Lakers fans think about Maker.
Most seem to be pretty happy with their hand as it stands but if they want Maker…he wont last til the 2nd round.
Larry Nance could be worth a mid first rounder for Maker in a trade. Hes a good player so super risky.
I think Detroit is really keen on Maker and he was hypping up his chemistry with Drummond

Magic JordanParticipantI would love to pick up Maker. But I don’t think at the price of Larry Nance. Larry Nance Jr is going to provide me with excellent bench celebrations as well as plenty of posters for the next 10 years in a Lakers uniform. Plus provide a positive impact when he’s on the court. He’s like the social media generation version of Nick Collison.
Yeah, so Maker has the higher upside probably 10x over. And he will almost surely provide at least what Larry does now by the time he is the same age as him…. but does he provide the fun?

burgessfourParticipantoverpay for the Sixers. I just don’t think you can give up those 2 assets for Ingram. I love Ingram, but the Sixers need at least 2 guards and maybe 3 to really move forward. The only way the Sixers can trade 2 assets like that is for an absolute, proven stud guard. I don’t even care whether it’s a PG or SG. And if Okafor or Noel can not get a top 5 pick or great guard in a trade then we just keep them.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantOh, I totally agree it’s an overpay- but a deliberate one. You kinda have to overpay for top 2 picks – and hope that the Sixers still suck enough next year (with a very young, developing roster) to pick up a guard in the draft – this site has 6 guards in the top 12 picks for 2017, currently. I’d probably even do what OKC did and play Simmons and Ingram out of position to help them develop – I’d be letting Simmons spend some time at the 1 and Ingram at the 2 for the dual reasons of developing their skills and losing games 🙂

mamadouParticipantI like that idea, developing their skills and losing games, starting Earl Watson…drafting WestB in the next draft.
And then starting WestB…drafting Harden thanks to the grizzlies.
Good comp, Ingram at the 2 like KD…and Paul George(Joe Johnson back in the day).
Simmons at the 3 or the 1, like Jeff Green(oops) or the alphabet nowadays…
