I know many have mixed opinions on the hack-a-shaq strategy. This past week or so, Adam Silver said they will look to change that statergy. I know many might not love it, but it is what’s best for the game. This is a main reason why I believe Adam Silver is the best commissioner in the four major sports in the U.S. He is trying to make the NBA better and the game a better product. Like it or not, the Hack-A-Shaq stratergy is a horrible product to watch.

This rule only is for Andre Drummond, DeAndre Jordan, Andrew Bogut, Dwight Howard, and Festus Ezeli. But, games will be run cleaner than it is when for 7 minutes in the second quarter teams intentionally fouling players. The game is too slow when this stratergy is in play, the games take forever to be over and the 4th quarter of a close game is horrible to watch. I know this may hurt teams that strategize for the Hack-A-Shaq, but this is what’s best for the game of basketball. Adam Silver knows what he is doing.

People can make an argument that baseball are not implementing a rule for intentional walks because it hurt teams that’s strategizing for it. But, I believe that’s hurting that sport too. I don’t want to watch Bryce Harper get walker 4 times in a game. He’s a main reason people tune in, why would they want to watch that. This rule more about helping the game by making it better for the fans. Having the game run smoother and faster is best for the sport.

It doesn’t hurt teams who use that strategy- it hurts the development of young bigs who now won’t have to work on their garbage jumpers.

I’ve said it from the beginning, if you are getting paid 20 million per, how the heck are you not shooting BARE MINIMUM 60% from the line? It is ridiculous that we are going to change the rules of the sports because 12 dudes can’t hit their free throws and teams are exploiting that. Get in the damn gym and fix your jumper

It’s not like they are not working on the jumper, pretty sure they do. Example: Reports say that Dwight Howard can make tons of free throws in practice, but not in a real game.

The rule needs to be changed because it makes the game not worth watching and makes the game go by extra slow.

This is far from what’s best for the sport, we are letting guys get off for being garbage at a particular aspect of the game for the sake of TV ratings

That’s the point I’m trying to make. TV Ratings + viewership = what’s best for the game. The NBA made many rule changes for what’s best for the game. The NBA bailed bad defense out by havung 5 seconds back to the basketball. That ruling let teams with bad defense gets away for being garbage. There’s tons of other rule changes that help the offense and defense out. They made the hand checking rule to help the offense out and clean out the game. You can say that the NBA is letting guys off for being less physical. There’s many more examples of the NBA changing/making rules to help the offense/defense better the game

Personally…I switch the channel if I see hack a shaq and sometimes I return, sometimes I dont. Its just bad entertainment.

Arguably, its probably not right to blatantly let bad free throw shooters off the hook because theres no bail-outs for other weaknesses such as being too slow or having bad handles.

So you can make an arguement for both sides but the NBA is what it is because it puts entertaining the fans first and being fair for the players second.

Eg. what other sport are ‘superstar calls’ a widely accepted part of the game.

That’s exacty what I’m trying to say.Sports is about entertainment, the hack-a-shaq stratergy is not enertaining at all. I switch the channell everytime a team does that because it;s not entertaining and the game takes forever,

Nah, professional sports is literally us watching people compete in while performing their athletic jobs. If you really want to see sports entertainment then my buddy Vince McMahon can help you with that. This sports is supposed to be entertainment is that BS backwards logic that confuses me as these are the same people who killed David Stern about the rigged WCF with the Kings and Lakers and the Draft lottery. You can’t have it both ways!

It’s insane that guys can just run and grab a poor free throw shooter anywhere on the court when they don’t even have the ball. I watched a game this year where a Spurs player hacked a guy out of bounds to initiate Hack A Shaq. I don’t have a problem with fouling horrid free throw shooters when they have the ball, but grabbing guys anywhere has always seemed over the line to me.

Change the Rules so the poor person can Succeed Without improving………. If a guy can’t shoot Free Throws than his team takes a Major Risk putting him on the floor at the end of games………..

It’s Disgrace that Adam Silver would change that……….

Pro sports are about getting paid. Silver wants it out because this could affect ratings, which affects how much advertisers are willing to pay. If this was about competition then there is no reason to eliminate it. This is the same type of thinking that caused the NBA to change how perimeter defense was played, add in the defensive 3 second rule, Barkley rule, and the dress code.

Basketball has ALWAYS been like this. There are guys that can’t shoot that get on the court, guys that can’t or don’t defend, bigs that don’t rebound. Lots of guys have weaknesses. It usually goes back to figuring out if the other things the player does makes it worth the risk or if the guys around him can cover up his weaknesses. Bogut is a terrible free throw shooter, but he’s a very good passer, good defender, can finish around the basket, rebounds. Howard is also a terrible free throw shooter, good defender, rebounder, scores without needing a lot of touches and a shot blocker. So I don’t agree with the whole, this guy should be thrown out of the NBA because he is terrible at something. It would be great if these guys were better free throw shooters, but there are other parts of the game that they contribute to or they wouldn’t be in the league.

I don’t think they should change the rule. I’ve never been bothered by the rule when the opposing team implements it. And I’ve seen shaq and Dwight who both were fouled a ton. Honestly the only time the strategy bugged me was when it was my team doing the fouling. I thought it was a weak strategy and often killed any chance of gaining momentum. So much of making a comeback is momentum oriented and if my team is down I don’t want tons of dead balls and whistles. I want to turnovers and quick offense.
