I’ve had Sabonis as my pick at 8 and 9 so I have to stick with him although they have Gordon already as a young frontcourt prospect. Only other guy who sprang to mind was Korkmaz as most other remaining guys in that draft area are frontcourters too but Orlando have more prospects at SG/SF than in the frontcourt so Sabonis gets my nod.

If a team does take a flyer on Maker then the Magic could possibly be one who does.

They are pretty set at most positions as they try to develop their young core. I think they could go a few different directions with this pick:

    -backup/third PG: Tyler Ulis
-shooter at the guard/forward position: Furkan Korkmaz or Malachi Richardson
-best available player: Domantas Sabonis or Skal Labissiere.

If I had to choose, I would choose Domantas Sabonis and use him as a quality back up to Nikola Vucevic.

They could go a few different directions here but my pick would probably be labissiere. Hes a gamble at this point but if he reaches his potential he’d be a perfect frontcourt compliment to vucevic as a guy that can block shots and stretch the floor. It will probably take him awhile though.

Orlando is set in every position and they will try to improve their roster in the free agency so a draft and stash player is a very likely move so my vote is Furkan Korkmaz, a player who can spend an extra year improving in turkey and then being ready to jump to the NBA

Magic select Deyonta Davis. He may not be as NBA ready as you would hope but he is a very strong rebounder that will protect the rim. Vucevic is a great offensive big but they need to add a big that can defend, maybe they find a short term fill-in center through free agency until Davis is fully ready to get starter minutes ala Myles Turner for example with his 2nd half breakout after recovering from his wrist injury.

Korkmaz if he stays in the draft makes sense, if not pf skal, johnson etc

given the fact that so many prospects that will be available imo are already taken in this consensus mock

Sabonis. They need a third big to play along side Vucevic and Gordon.

im gona go with Skal. vogel got a good surprise rookie season from myles turner, id like for him to roll the dice on skal as well. his shot blocking could be a good compliment next to vucevic as well

If I were in their shoes, I’d take Skal here.  If the draft actually plays out this way though, I expect Deyonta Davis.

with Sabonis, Deyonta Davis, Skal or even Thon Maker. I know the verdict is out on Skal, but seeing what Vogel did with Myles Turner in Indiana last year (and Hibbert in years before that) gives me confidence in his ability to develop front court players. And Skal’s future could entirely depend on the way he’s handled early in his career. He could be worth the gamble.. even though Turner showed a lot more in his lone year of college than Skal did.

I also think Orlando is going to go hard after a verteran front court player (or possibly 2) in free agency, so they can afford to take one of the above guys and bring them along slowly next season.

Also, the Korkmaz guy from Turkey intrigues me. He brings some similar skills that Fournier & Hezonja already have.. but I see nothing wrong with Orlando rolling the dice on him to inject more scoring into their future core. His offensive potential is pretty nice.

I could see Davis coming in and playing a lot of backup C, and by the end of the year of the year had a better +/- than with Vucecic I would not be surprised at all. They’re in a position to swing for the fences if they take Maker or Skal, but do they really have time to develop those guys with their other young talent needing room to grow? Davis is raw but his rebounding and rim protcting abilities should transfer well right away givng them somethng they can use right now.

He says he can shoot 3s too, for whatever that’s worth (who knows if he’s just saying that for his draft stock), so really he might have a pretty high two-way upside comparable with Skal or Maker.

     Deyonta Davis.

If the Magic are gonna go forward with Vucevic, they need to pair him with a rim protector. Davis does that very well with his length and athleticism. He doesn’t stretch the floor as well as would be ideal but he’s very young. And could develop that part of his game.
