he_gets_bucketsParticipantWas just reading through the latest mock draft and at 7 the Nuggets are slated to take Jaylen Brown, with the justification of the pick being that it fills a need for them at the 2/3. Now I don’t think Jaylen going here is a bad pick or unlikely, but in what world does Denver have a hole on the wing?
After a dissapointing rookie year, Gary Harris had a great sophomore year averaging 12 points a game, and Will Barton broke out as a potential 6th Man of the Year candidate, averaging 14.4 points with a couple months averaging 20+. Then at the 3 you have Danillo and Wilson Chandler, who look to be finally healthy for the first time in a while this upcoming season and are both established starters in this league.
Denver doesn’t have a gaping hole anywhere really- they have similar levels of talent across all positions, maybe an edge in the bigs department with strong prospects in Nurkic and Jokic, and established presences like Faried, but they need improvement everywhere, not just the wing. If on the night Jaylen Brown is the best player available, I’m all for the pick, but Denver isn’t in a situation where picking for need should be a consideration, they should be taking the best player on the board.

And if people don’t realize how important guards are to the success of Denver’s Bigs look no further than Phila where very talented Bigs Okafor & noel were Helpless w/ the disgraceful D-League level guards the Sixers started the year with………….
I’d luv to see Denver grab Jaylen Brown or Marquis Chriss…….. Denver really has something good going on……..

DolanCareParticipantDenver lacks a PF for the future. I personally see Faried as a bench player on a contender, that’s unless he finds a 3 point shot. Gallinari, who plays 4 often, is one of the most injury prone stars I’ve ever seen.
That all said, protoype PF Marquese Chriss would be horrendous stretch of a pick, especially if Jaylen Brown is still on the board. You can never have too much wing depth, especially when most SFs can get away playing the 4 in small lineups.

Hype MachineI dunno man…most NBA players in their prime aren’t that keen on providing mentorship to players who threaten to steal their minutes. It’s OK if there’s a certain heirachy established (eg Bogut and Ezeli), or one of the vets is specifically in a mentorship role (KG).
Scottie Pippen’s defense on Toni Kukoc at the 1992 Olympics is proof what I’m saying. I kinda felt sorry for Kukoc that game…although he was probably a better player in the end as a result of possibly basketballs biggest a$$-whipping.

They should GO BIG and SWING BIG at 7 and 15. I would go with Skal and Thon. Put either one next to one of those large Euro imports, or Faried.
At 19, fill a need. So, like, small forward/wing depth, and 3 point shooting. If that isn’t there, then go get Denzel Valentine if he is there.
At 53, go BEST SHOOTER AVAILABLE. I like Kyle Wiltjer. Long and can hit the 3.
At 56, what about a hard-nosed, utility role player like Thomas Walkup? He can play some 2, or some point forward, or as a "4" in a four guard lineup.
At 19 if Valentine isn’t there, and they aren’t "super excited about anyone there, I would try to trade the pick (plus either 53 or 56) and cash/future second round pick to the Sixers for 24 and 26. Then do the same thing: get some combination of small forward talent plus 3 point shooting and intangibles (along with defense).
At either 24 or 26 I also really, really like Tyler Ulis. A high motor guy who can run a team and get to the basket. Good backup point guard potential, OR a guy you can put in some 2 point guard sets.
So, if I could end up with 7, 15, 24, 26, 53, and 56 I am going with Skal, Thon Maker, Timothe Luwawu or Taurean Prince at 24, Tyler Ulis at 26, Kyle Wiltjer at 53, and Thomas Walkup at 56. I also try to get one of those Boston 2nd rounders (45, 51, or 58) for cheap (future 2nd round pick/cash).
With the extra pick, go with a Euro Stash or a future D League all-star.
