valentineThis could get ugly, and its only begun.
The Silence from Simmons since the lottery has been deafening. Aside from a few instagram pics, Simmons has hardly been acting in the manner of someone who is in a dogfight to be the #1 overall pick (which he is).
Now I’ve read reports leaked through journalists that I know are trusted by the Simmons camp…but they were minimal at best and seemed awfully like a "you scratch my back, Ill scratch yours" type of deal. No bigtime journos can get a word out of him on the situation.
Some points of interest:
According to Colangelo, Simmons hasnt even spoken to them, let alone worked out for them. Look at Brandon Ingram..hes getting as much exposure as he can. Thats what Simmons would be doing if he wanted to go #1.
Notice how Givony moved him to #2 at the same time he hooked up with Woj? If theres one thing we know about Woj, is that he knows things. A deal to get Simmons to the Lakers might have been in the works for months now?
Simmons didnt attend the lottery. Why? Because the last thing he wants is to have to pretend to be enthusiastic on camera about going to Philly.
And if you thought a sad-faced Simmons would be controversial on lottery night, imagine what it will look like on draft night when he makes history by being the first disappointed #1 pick. The media will have a field day bashing Philly and most Philly fans will instantly hate the decision to pick him considering a supposedly equal talent in Ingram was also available.
Lastly, Simmons does have a leg to stand on. Colangelo is a puppet of the NBA. Thats how he got the job….remember? Simmons has some powerful allies in his corner. The most powerful agents, the most powerful player (Lebron), the most powerful team (Lakers), anyone with a commercial interest in the NBA….and of course the NBA itself.
So before calling me a conspiracy theorist…at least address why Simmons is clearly in hiding instead of acting like the hopeful future #1 pick.
In this humble fans opinion, Ingram is looking more and more like the #1 pick with each tumbleweed that blows by.

ExumInfernoParticipantThe Colangelo group has deep links to everyone inside the NBA office for 50 years. No way Silver, Stern and other Colangelo friends let old man Colangelo get walked over after they installed him into the 76ers.
Should be interesting viewing, Steve Francis and all those things.
Even better, Simmons is going to do a Doug Christie. Simmons will refuse to play until traded to the Lakers. Seattle did well from that, getting Sam Perkins and getting rid of Benoit Benjamin.
I am not seeing Ingram or Simmons, Dunn is refusing workouts, Bender is still busy with his team, there isn’t a lot about anyone high in the draft. Where is Buddy, Murray? Melo Trimble might have made more news, and he isn’t even in the draft now.
The 76ers had to travel to California to see D Davis, you would think players would really want to go to see the 76ers. Although, why the 76ers wanted to see Davis and C Diallo is another question as that isn’t a position of need.

circumlocution75ParticipantVery large market……. It’s not L.A. but that doesn’t seem to be as important as it once was……. I heard a live interview w/ Bryan Colangelo & he did not want to commit but when asked about these rumors he laughed & said "we have a great relationship w/ Ben & his agent – there are no issues…. that is a media creation & par for the course this time of year…."
Phila is actively shopping Okafor which tells two Very clear things: #1 Embiid is healthy & #2 Simmons is the #1 pick……..
It’s a shame b/c Simmons would have been the Super Star upon which the Lakers could build their next Championship team……. but L.A.’s front office is a real problem…… & Phila has stablaized their management structure & after adding Simons they might really have something special w/ Embiid, Saric & Simmons as a young core…… & they’ve got a Ton of 1st round picks over the next few years……..

Hype MachineI realise this isn’t what Philly fans want to read….but I feel like some of your points are just as laughable as mine. Which is disappointing because you seem like a smart guy. Indeed, so smart that I had to look up a dictionary just to work out what your username meant.
Philly isn’t a big basketball market….maybe the area has a moderate population, but have you seen their TV ratings? Or looked at the stands. Philly lost a LOT of basketball fans and commercial support in the past few years. And given that Villanova just won the national championship, its safe to say that the 76ers aren’t even the most popular team in Philly. Plus we’re comparing to the Lakers. Even my mom knows who the Lakers are!
Additionally, What else do you expect Collangelo to say? Considering that hes said communication between him and Simmons has non existent and that he "hopes" to get in touch soon….You can’t read into those comments at all.
And lastly, One of those bigs is getting shipped regardless of whether they take Simmons or Ingram. So once again, thats irrelevent. Gimme something with some substance man!
I thought it was "laughable" when I heard Donald Trump was running for President. You think it’s "laughable" that Simmons would rather go to the Lakers. We’re all having a laugh….but there becomes a point when the joke turns into reality. So don’t shoot the messenger, because I saw a well known Philadelphia beat writer write a similar article within the last 24 hours suggesting similar things.

Butter13ParticipantI don’t understand why people treat Philadelphia like it’s Sacramento, Milwaukee, Utah, or Detroit. It’s the 4th largest market in the US. Sure, it’s not LA or NY, but it’s still a large US city and the 76ers are a top 10 NBA franchise all-time. Simmons shouldn’t have a problem playing there, especially if the front office has told him that they’re commited to winning and not tanking.
Also, this nonsense about Simmons and a shoe deal if he’s in LA is ridiculous. Durant, Lillard, Harden, Lebron, and Curry all prove that you don’t need to be in LA or NY to land a 9-figure shoe deal. Ultimately, if you become a top NBA player, you’ll be rewarded with huge endorsement deals regardless of which US city you’re in so Simmons should be more preoccupied with his jumper and motor than on which city he gets to play in.

Hype MachineWhen Simmons was in College, he was prepared to do anything and everything to hype up his brand. He was the face of LSU, was always doing interviews on TV, beefing with Drake on twitter etc. He wanted everyone to get on the Ben Simmons bandwagon
Yet now that he’s a pro and can legitimiately get paid to do endorsements, why is there crickets? Something fishy about that to me…
If he wanted to end speculation about him having a problem with Philly, all he would have to do is write a single tweet. If he wanted to go #1, put some workout videos of him swishing a few buckets.
Why hasn’t he signed the shoe deal if it’s meaningless? He’s got 2 offers sitting on the table. As for those other guys….indeed they do have deals. But they would be bigger if they were in LA.
Its gotten to the point of it being beyond smoke now. Its a fire!

ChoppyParticipantHopefully the reason you haven’t seen him is that he’s locked himself away in a gym somewhere shooting thousands of jumpers a day.

ashock34ParticipantWith the Collangelos at the helm, Philly will take whoever they deem the best player for the franchise. The team was bullied into passing on Porzingis last year while Hinkie was GM. The agents and the league despised Hinkie and he had little support. Not so with the NBA’s royal family the Collangelos. They will demand and get whomever they want. There exists a theory out there that the number one pick in the draft was in fact a "30 pieces of silver" payment for the removal of Sam Hinkie. Now they must decide how best to use that blood money!

Mr. 19134ParticipantFirst off Simmons camp has already approved of Philly and Brett Brown has known Ben since birth and recently had dinner with his father.
The Sixers also have Dr David T Martin on staff who was head of Australian Institute Sports Science and who also knows Ben very well. Hes head of what will be the most advanced and expensive training facility in the NBA. So Simmons would be coming into a very confortable situation with a ton of upside.
And finallys AI made way more money off endorsements then Kobe so theres that to anybody who thinks LA makes you more marketable.
