Safe to be what? A decent role player? Thats not safe when you’re picking third.

Thon Maker! A reach but a guy with huge upside. In 5 years we may be looking back at him as the best player out of the draft. Celtics need to swing for the fences to get a superstar, Maker is their guy

Isn’t Bender a swing for the fences type of guy too? People had Thon as a second rounder now the guy is most likely a lottery pick. I’m definately in the minority here with thinking Thon is the guy but people will be surprised at how high he gets picked.

Go back to 2013 Giannis Antetokounmpo looked the part and had huge upside but 14 teams passed on him. I would say Thon has those same qualities (not same game), I believe he will be a star in the NBA

not disagreeing with you in regards to his potential, but the point i’m making is you don’t use a third pick on someone who could be available later in the draft in which you have picks for that vey reason, swing for the fences.

That skal was CONSIDERED the first pick in this years draft before he played for Kentucky this season??? Point being that players stock climbs and falls constantly for a variety of reasons.

Yes no doubt about it I agree with you players stock climb and fall for a variety of reasons. Thon didn’t do anything diffrent from being considered a 5 star recruit and top 10 prospects a few months ago to now. He measure out well at the combine so no real checks marks against him there. He seems to be a mature guy whos a hard worker.

What makes Bender a better prospect? They both are about the same height, both need to put on weight. Is it really that crazy to think in 3 years Maker will be a better player then Bender? Both are realitivly unknows.

Drafting Maker at 3 gets you fired or you become a genius. I believe his upside is huge and I have faith in Stevens being able to develop him. This pick needs to be a homerun for the Celtics. Draft day is going to be fun!

Exactly my thoughts. Bender easily for me. Highest upside left at a position desperately needed. Another guard is a waste. None of the guards available franchise level talents. Bender at least might be one day.

Dragan Bender looks the logical pick and is my choice.

They might reach for another big possibly or trade down which would seem unlikely.

If Celtics keep the pick I believe they take bender. However, I believe there is a better chance than not they trade this pick. Therefore, I think the Celtics take Murray and trade him to sixers for okafor.

Makes sense for both teams. Sixers clear up some of the frontcourt logjam and get a potential franchise cornerstone in their backcourt and much needed outside shooting. Celtics get much needed low post scoring and a player who will probably have a much bigger immediate impact than bender.

I do have a feeling this pick gets traded, but I think Murray is the best choice here.

Bender is a great prospect, but they are already kind of crowded in the front court with many deserving players searching for minutes (Jerebko, Olynyk, Zeller, Sullinger, Johnson) so adding another big would be tough.

If they pick Buddy Hield, I’ll shake my head and LOL. It would be similar to JJ Redick going 3rd overall. Kind of absurd. Great player. But not THAT Great on the NBA level.

Dragan Bender likely goes third. The Celtics have so many guards that I can’t envision they draft another so early unless Danny Ainge is convinced one of the guards in the draft are s a star.

Celtics select Dragan Bender if they keep the pick, however I expect this pick to be included in a draft day deal but in this draft I’ll go Bender because he fills a big need as a future 4/5 that is a good knockdown shooter. With Marcus Smart in Boston Jamal Murray wouldn’t make a ton of sense unless they were willing to give up on Smart already which I can’t see happening.

A few days ago I was saying the same thing nateval is: go with Buddy Hield and Thon Maker.

Maybe they swap some picks with the Suns: 3 and 16 for 4 and 13.

Take Hield at 4 (or Bender).  Then your second pick is a bit higher — enough to get Thon Maker.

Maybe they can go with a Big Three rotation at the 4 and 5 spots: Dragan, Olynyk, and Thon.

With the rest of their picks, they need a guy in the best available tier that fills a need.

Dunn. Trade him to Sixers in a deal for Okafor.

     Bender

He Looks like a nice modern nba stretch 4 who is quick so he should be good on defense. His high upside makes him BPA so I think they take him. I am losing sleep over this guy though and his potential to bust too though.

      He’s a dime a dozen player maybe…

With the 3rd pick the celts select Dragan Bender….

Now my scenario would be, Murray and let Turner go.

Or draft Murray and work something with the nuggets, he’s a great fit for them, they have pieces, players, picks to deal.

     Bender.

If traded, i agree with earlier comments it will be to the Sixers so they can draft Dunn, who they are crazy about, and  it will involve Okafor.

I think Ainge compares Bender and Okafor and makes the call. Bender has more promise defensively and better range so i think he rolls the dice and goes for the new age Dino Radja

As a Celtics fan i’d be perfectly fine with it if they take Hield and think he’d be a nice fit, but I think they’ll go with Dragan Bender. I say they take Bender, but i’d like it if they take Hield.

Interesting point about them trading the pick and trying to get Brook Lopez by I Called Game, I had always thought that the Celtics might try to flip this pick for a player like Lopez. But my counter worry would be, the Celtics fleeced the Nets with the KG/PP trade and would the Nets give up their best player to get their own pick back.

Danny Ainge I doubt would remove any protection on the other picks the Nets have to trade or swap with Boston but still has 16th, 23rd,31st,35th,45th,51st and 58th pick this year. And loads of other first and 2nd rounders due apart from what the Nets owe him.

Ainge has enough ammo to do any deal for Lopez but would the Nets bite I wonder.

Jamaal Murray. His shooting, especially off screens will open up a lot of room on offense.

Assuming they keep the pick I’ll say Bender

Personally I like Murray more but with a glut of guards I doubt they will take him.
