OhCanada-Participant2016 is a good time for the Lakers to be bad. Let’s face it the next 5 years of NBA basketball will be dominated by Lebron and whatever team he plays for, Golden State, San Antonio, and Durant and whatever team he plays for which will likely be OKC with Westbrook. Even if the Lakers can trade for PG-13 or Cousins then sign Derozan and Horford which would be best situation they still likely don’t become contenders and would likely peak at the level of the Raptors or Clippers if everything worked out pperfectly but I doubt they have more success then those two teams.
With the 2017 draft looking like a good one a core of Russell, Clarkson, Ingram and Randle and a new coach Luke Walton they would be wise to continue to grow through development rather then blowing it up.
I understand in LA long rebuilds aren’t very profitable but unless they want to be a middling team for the next 3 years that gets crushed by the true players they should continue the path they are on.

goneParticipantVery true and interesting pov. Sometimes you just have to wait until someone great declines. The east had to wait for Michael to retire, the West had to wait for Kobe & Duncan to decline.

BeastMode716Participantone bit…… I would have Much rather lost our pick to Phila this year so we would have it next year……. & the big thing would have been that had we lost that pick this year ………..Jeannie would have had the public support to Finally Dump her Train Wreck brother & Mitch K…………
Both have been a Disaster……. I think Ingram has been built up just like Russell was last year……. Both players are 35% from 3 & 43% overall FG% shooters…….. Neither has explosiveness……
If we loose that pick to Phila next year & they use it to get Josh Jackson or Jason Tatun I’ll have a Stroke b/c I’d rather have Either kid over Ingram……… & failing to take Okafor will prove to be a disaster – Okafor’s rookie stats are Way Better than Boogie Cousins who was Older, played More minutes & had far better talent around him & he only avg 14 & 8 on 46% FG%…….
Okafor avg 18 & 7 w/ a 51% FG% on an Atrocious team….. thee are 5 – FIVE – pg’s coming out next year who I would Draft ahead of D’Angelo "Bustell" Russell as many in LA now call him…………..
I don’t understand how Every Laker fan isn’t Demanding Kupchack & Buss be fired….. This idea that they are building the next Golden State is outrageous……
There is No Steph Curry 2.0…….. & Klay Thompson is Not only the Best Defensive 2 guard in the NBA at 6’7” but he has also NEVER shot Under 41% from 3 pt line……. & Steph Curry has Never shot below 45% from 3 point range…….
Ingram & Russell shoot 35% from 3 point range which is decent but Far from great……. Unfortunately, new coach Luke Walton could not bring some 50% shooters w/ him……. And as scared as I am we’ll lost that pick next season & I am even More scared that we’ll win the Lottery in 2018 & hand that right over to Philly……….
Dr. Jerry Buss was a Genius owner…… the Lakers had failed to make a Finals in almost a decade & after buying the team he immediately acquired Kareem & then in a Fantastially shrew move he traded Don Turner & refused to re-sign Gail Goodrich & Both moves turned into 1st round picks from Cleveland & New Orleans & several years later Both those moves turned into the #1 pick in 1980 & 1982 which of course gave us Magic & Worthy & Showtime was born……..
Do these "3 Stooges" – the Buss twins & Franken-Kupchack remind anyone of that type of Leadership???

BiggysmallsParticipantI’m not a Lakers fan, so any time they are bad, is a good time for them to be bad from my perspective.
The league doesn’t need them to be good. It doesnt need NY to be good. The league is fine. It more than any other league markets individuals and stars rather than cities.
So screw the Lakers. I hope they stay bad forever. Of course they won’t, but I’m fine with them being bad as long as possible.

MopgrassParticipantIf they get the top 3 pick in 2017, they keep it and don’t have to give a number one pick to Orlando in 2019 (or ever).

HitsterParticipantRandle, Clarkson, Russell and this year’s pick gives the Lakers a nice core to build around and even if they don’t land a top FA this year, they have cap space and can add a complimentary player or two to assist the young stars or increase their chances of landing a top FA in 2017 or onwards.
A year under Luke Walton and the young core developing makes Lakers a much more attractive FA target come next year.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantLakers have no stable base. The #2 pick will help but between the Snitch and the losing mentality, I think they need a new start, again.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantI feel like the Lakers would have been much better off conveying their pick this year, since next year’s draft is supposed to be loaded and their protection decreases. It would have been better for them to miss out on this year’s "top 2 only" vs next years potential star heavy draft.
