So I was looking at some list online at the 25 biggest NBA busts and Flynn’s name came up there, and got thinking about the guy and his career. Back in 2009 Minnesota had picks 5 & 6 and used them on Rubio and Flynn right ahead of some dude named Steph Curry. So obviously the Twolves (and other teams) screwed up. But if you remember Flynn had a solid rookie season, had 13 ppg and shot the ball decently and he had some excting moments throughout his rookie season. So while he wasn’t the best pick he was still a decent player.

But then that offseason he had hip surgery and that just ruined him since he was never the same. Only player in 53 games and he dropped to only putting up 5 ppg. He was then traded in the offseason to Houston, only played a few games for them and was traded to Portland, where he only played a few games as well. He only averaged like 4 ppg that season for those teams, his shooting numbers went way way way down and just like that after just 3 seasons, dude never made it back on a NBA roster. Crazy to think after a solid rookie season he was looking for work 2 years later. Sucks as that hip surgery robbed him of he’s greatest strength; his speed and quickness, and he was already pretty small to begin with so it’s was downhill from there. I wonder if the surgeon screwed up or something? Just crazy that he was super young and the surgery ruined him. But I guess it’s never good when you are getting hip surgery especially when you are that young.

Does anyone recall if he had medical red flags coming into the draft? and what do you all think would’ve become of Johnny Flynn had he stayed healthy?

that Rambis frustratingly stuck to the famous Triangle Offense, which did not fit Flynn’s style of play at all. That hurt his production as well as his injury.

He scored his 13 pts per game on a very bad team.  He was just a bad pick by a very bad general manager.  Flynn did nothing for the Wolves when he was healthy to ever make you think he would become a good player in the league.   He got hurt…  it didn’t help him,  but he was a wasted pick anyway.

He was really good at Syracuse, some sites were comparing him to CP3. It’s too bad he couldn’t stay in the league.

It is time to take Flynn posters off of your walls.  There are many, many good college guards that aren’t NBA caliber players.  Flynn would’ve been fine as a backup and that is about it.  He did absolutely nothing to distinguish himself with the Wolves prior to getting hurt.  About all he did was make it harder for Wolves fan to wait for Rubio while he played in Spain.

A healthy Flynn could have been a Marcus Banks, a bad back up…haha.

    Flynn-Johnson BAM BAM….Curry-Cousins.

I absolutely hate when people use the "Rambis ruined Flynn by running the triangle" defense.

The triangle is a MOTION offense. Just because Derek Fisher didn’t score playing in the Triangle doesn’t mean all point guards useless in the triangle.

Flynn processed things far too slow to be an NBA point guard. He just wasn’t smart. So running some sort of offense that relied on him with the ball in his hands at all time would’ve been a train wreck too.

Flynn, had he stayed healthy, could’ve maybe carved out a backup PG role on some team where he’s an instant offense type spark. His athleticism was a plus and he wasn’t a terrible shooter or slasher, he just wasn’t smart and when his explosiveness went, his game quickly followed.

Just a bust, and another bad Minnesota pick.  He was overhyped due to a big game in 3OT in MSG, then got picked too high.

Obviously T-Wolves were a bad destination for him, when they drafted lots of guards, but he also wasn’t good enough.
