Celtics3178ParticipantI’ve never poster before but a long time visitor of the site. I was wondering what people think about realistic options for the celtics. Not getting the top two pick in my opinion took us out of trading for a superstar ( Butler, Cousins) however I think we could make some smaller moves that make us better contenders and still rebuild. I think they need to make two trades both for big men. Celtics Trade the # 16 from Dallas and Memphis back there Future pick along with Amir and Jonas who can both be waived for Zach Randolph Celtics Trade #3 pick, rozier for 76ers Jahlil Okafor The celtics need a big man and this gives the sixers a solid young guard and pick of the litter from this years draft. Randolph Salary will be up after next year so we can throw out a Max offer at Gordon Heyward and reunite the college duo.

901GrizzParticipantI agree that the Celtics could make smaller moves and still be contenders next year.
I like the Okafor trade for #3 and Rozier for both teams.
As for the smaller moves the Celtics could make, first I think they should re-sign Turner. Then I would go after a guy like Marvin Williams or Jared Dudley.
Starting 5 would look like…
Thomas
Bradley
Crowder
Williams/Dudley
Okafor
Coming off the bench you still have
Smart
Turner
Johnson
Olynyk
Not a bad lineup IMO.

901GrizzParticipantThey could also add a guy like Taurean Prince at #16 who should be able to contribute on both ends of the floor his first year in the league.

circumlocution75Participantthough???? You guys need a shot blocker too……… throw in Marcus Smart & James Young & give the Sixers 2nd round pick back in exchange for Joel Embiid & Ben Simmons…….
Phila is Not trading Jahlil Okafor……… the kid had a Better Rookie season than Boogie Cousins at a younger age on a Much worse team……..
He set a Rookie record for shooting % off the dribble….. Translated, that means he got ZERO easy buckets & had 2 or 3 defenders hanging off him Every time he touched the ball…… but Okafor Still scored 17.5 points a game w/ a 50+ FG%…..
W/ Ben Simmons on the floor Okafor will get single coverage & he will tear apart the Front court of most teams…….
Phila also has about 6 – 1st round picks over the next 3 Drafts…… they are Loaded…… you Might be able to get Noel……. & Noel would be a Fantastic addition to the Celtics b/c Boston Desperately needs an Elite Rim protector & Shot Blocker…….
But I doubt you would get him b/c Phoenix will probably offer Brandon Knight or Eric Bledsoe for Noel…… but Okafor is going No Where…… Phila has 3 Monsters that All draw a double team & I saw an interview w/ P.J. Carlisimo where he claims Dario Saric is going to be close to Porzingus……
Phila is Loaded & they’re Not giving studs away for a pg like Rozier who they can Draft this year w/ the 24th or 26th pick in the 1st round……….. I LUV the Celtics & I was hoping they would get the 1st or 2nd pick…… but the #3 pick doesn’t buy much……. Jamal Murray is going to be a Really good scorer……. but No Way can that pick buy a 19 y/o 7 footer w/ Tim Dunvan’s low post game……

BeastMode716Participantdo people ever ask themselves why Phil Jackson didn’t use the Triangle Offense in 2000 w/ Shaq’s Lakers???
B/c there was Only one Michael Jordan……….. There is Only one Steph Curry…….. No One is building the Golden State Warriors 2.0…… Big men are Still & Always will be at a Premium b/c in the Playoff heat – it Always comes down to Who can get a bucket in the half court in the final 4 minutes of a game…… & Okafor will be a Star in those spots…..
It doesn’t mean that teams won’t load up on shooters……. but the Sixers should also be smart enough to realize that Okafor at 18 years old w/ all 5 opposing players keying on him & collapsing on him STILL scored 18 ppg & shot over 50% in less than 30 minutes per game……
At 23 y/o this kid is going to Destroy teams on the block…… I understand why Danny Agigne wants him so bad – Danny Aigne is a Champion & he recognizes Real Talent……
but now that Phila has a Real basketball man in charge in Bryan Colangelo there is No way he’s handing over a 6’11” 275 lb Kid w/ feet like a dancer, hands like Tim Duncan & a Rear-End like Charles Barkely over to a Division Rival for a n Average PG (Rozier) & an Average 2 guard (Jamal Murray)……

BiggysmallsParticipantDraft Bender at 3, hope he develops into an impact player.
I’d take a big run at a guy like Festus Ezeli in free agency because Boston needs impact bigs. I would shoot for a young guy though rather than try to sign a guy like Howard but he wouldn’t be a terrible option either.

phreshprinceParticipant…but that dude Bender just scares me. I’ve read that generally fans have a phobia of European bigs, but I feel like it’s for good reason with all the examples the last fifteen years of busts and misses. I want to believe in him but I think I’d be more comfortable with… anyone else lol.

trapgamesolidParticipantThey should trade the pick this year for Okafor and retain the swap pick next year as I think it will be more valuable. Okafor is a big upgrade from Sullinger. I agree with going after a guy like Ezeli or Biyombo to get more shot blocking and rebounding inside.
Next year’s draft is loaded next year. Keep that pick and trade this one.

HitsterParticipantI agree with the idea that they take BPA and that Ainge considers all options around draft time, if he thinks he can make a great move then go for it.
I’ve talked a lot on other posts that Ainge can go into FA season with the 3rd pick drafted and possibly move it then if they gain a top FA or a better deal shakes out. I’ll also put in a note don’t forget in 2007 – Ainge flipped 5th pick Jeff Green and pieces for Ray Allen and then traded for KG a few weeks later leading to 2008 title win.
If Ainge can get a top player in via 3rd pick or other pieces and he thinks it will help him land a top FA or another star via a further trade then watch out for this too.
