KingPapasParticipantIs it me or has most of ESPN.com content went to insider only?

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantESPN in general has gone really down hill. Look at the mass exodus of ESPN commentators and personalities. Bill Simmons, Ray Lewis, Chris Carter, Skip Bayless, Trent Dilfer, Mike Torico and I’m sure there is more all gone while they keep the worst person on TV Jamele Hill.

JoeWolf1As someone with an insider account, their draft coverage is pretty abysmal anymore. Chad Ford essentially just alters his opinion to whatever the latest piece of scout information tells him, and Pelton is stuck in the analytic gimmick. Not to mention the frequency of content is down from past drafts.
My draft grade for ESPN NBA draft coverage is about a C-

Memphis MadnessParticipantIt’s hit or miss.
Personally, I liked Grantland better. Bill Simmons was one of their few writers worth writing about.
Zach Lowe is good — but, a little goes a long way. Is he even still there?
They should bring back Grantland. Good basketball coverage. Good pro wrestling coverage. Really the only two sports I care a lot about.
Fivethirtyeight is too random. Nate Silver gets it SO wrong. Like, A LOT.
The comments on ESPN.COM articles are solid. Now, the internet is mostly just good for the comment sections. The rest is click bait…
Great discussions with knowledgeable posters are where it’s at.
This place is great. I like the Grizzlies message board. But, for sports, that’s about it…
I found a decent pro wrestling forum. I might post the link sometime.
Now, I know the draft is up, and the lottery selection is like tomorrow right?
But, we gotta talk about this WCF. Should be really good.
I mean, if you put together a five man Dream Team right now, you wouldn’t have to leave A Warriors-Thunder game.
Steph, Russ, Klay, Durant, Draymond.
These guys are fantastic. I want to say that AT LEAST 3 or 4 of these guys should be on the court 80% of the time in the RIOLYMPICS.
I am actually looking forward to the ECF, too.
The Cavs have the NBA’s classic headliner plus Kevin and Kyrie, but the Raps have some ballers in Lowry, DeRozan, and DeMarre. Plus, Biyombo is looking good.
The NBA always needs a good mid-card team to give the heavyweights a run for their money. The Kings used to be that team. Then the Grizzlies had a run. I think the Raptors are that team now. Plus, they have the POTENTIAL to be a sleeper Finals team at some point — and Toronto is a heck of a town!
Oh, and yeah, ESPN stinks!!!!!!!!

XYRYXParticipantI have to agree here. The articles for non insiders are mostly only opinions from different reporters or are some kind of numbers thrown around in bunches, like unlimited advanced stats without explanation or like the percentages of teams advancing to the next round.
Not to mention the excessive LeBron lovin or the praise of the Warriors now. It seems that they absolutely only go for controversial stuff to get the clicks they want. There was a nice article with JVG a couple of days ago where they just posted the conversation and it was great. Can’t remember when I saw something like this for the last time before that.
And the fact that you basically can’t read anything about the draft for example without an insider account is flat out weak.

sweaterflexParticipantESPN is definitely going downhill, I have an Insider account but I mostly have it for Kevin Pelton’s articles and the football coverage. Zach Lowe is excellent, and non-Insiders can get a lot out of Pelton’s chats. Chad Ford is garbage, but the stats coverage is pretty good, Neil Paine at 538 is one of the better sports statisticians out there. Otherwise, 538 is better off sticking to politics and public health.

BiggysmallsParticipantI won’t disagree on the premise that ESPN sucks now…but the example by the poster at the top listing names like Skip Bayless, Ray Lewis and Chris Carter gave me a chuckle. Those guys are horrible…plain horrible. So losing them makes it better.
I do like Tirico and Simmons was like the Anti-ESPN even when he was there. But yeah the only thing that company has now is the late night deal with SVP and even that is overrated.
It just seems like they are way too self-involved and worried about being popular and "hip"…they bring random rappers on shows now to break things down. Like why in the sam hell do I give a flying eff what Lil Wayne has to say about the NBA playoffs?
Then there’s Stephen A. Smith…

capecodderParticipantESPN has two many not so hidden agendas….I recently cancelled ny Insider account
They over promote their programs, but do have some great analysts like Van Gundy and Gruden and Kirbstreep
Agree about Chris Carter….awful and Ray Lewis, awful and practically illiterate
Sean McDonough will be a great addition

doubledribblerParticipantESPN/ESPN.com is terrible. They spend too much time trying to create stories. It’s 95% clickbait and filler. I also hate that the focus always goes to a few teams or players. There are 30 NBA teams and they cover the Cavs, Warriors, Thunder, and 76ers the most this season. Spurs set a franchise records for wins and Pop probably got the most coverage on the team for being a grouchy old man. Then they try to force all their shows to cover the same topics. How many times a day does someone want to hear the same exact conversation about Tiger Woods, LeBron, or Tom Brady? I wouldn’t be surprised if they still occassionally bring up Tebow.

ExumInfernoParticipantUsed to be great, horrible now.
Their agenda is not sports, the S in their name used to mean Sports but they have other ideas now.
I think all this comes from being owned by corrupt and evil Disney.
It has been years since ESPN had any worthy draft coverage, and actually everywhere seems to have less than in the past.
Also, if Chad Ford changes his draft picks predictions after the actual drafts, that is not acceptable. I don’t do that.

pokieParticipantESPN is gone. It has morphed into another of Disneys weird Entertainment/ Behavior Modification tentacles. Stop watching and stop reading that garbage. Continue to ball. It will pass.
