The Kings got very lucky Joerger became available. It seems he had requested permission to speak with them while under contract with Memphis.

It looked to me like just because they took their time, didn’t mean they were going to get the coach they wanted. It says a lot about a team when the top 3 coaches available (Brooks, Tibbs, Vogel) show no interest in you.

So if you’re the Grizz how do you not trade him to the Kings? I don’t know that they would have given up the 8, but would they give up the 8 for Joerger and 17? I don’t know that they would do that either, but I can guarantee they would think about it. I could be wrong but I don’t believe they can trade next years pick because it may go to the Bulls. But I think they can trade the year after.

If I’m Memphis and I have an asset someone else covets, I’m getting something for it.

Vlade is so dumb, he probably would have given them a first rounder whenever the next one they have is (probably about 5 years from now).

    1) They weren’t getting anything more than a 2nd round pick for a coach who hasn’t won anything

    2) They kinda had to fire him. He’s been there for 3 years and tried to leave after 2 of them. They gave him more years & $ after the first time. If they gave him what he wanted (to go elsewhere) this time, it would’ve made them look bad in negotiations with agents for both players and coaches going forward

Trading picks or players for coaches is flat out dumb and needs to be shut down!

The compensation would have been a conditional 2nd round draft pick and the $2 Million left on his contract and the negotiation period would have been long and tedious.

The Grizzlies had to start searching for a new HC and with Vogel and very few others still available they need to start conducting interviews immediately. Can’t wait in limbo wondering if this guy wants to coach for your franchise.

I wonder how the roster feels about this. That’s gotta be a cruddy feeling, my coach doesn’t want to coach us?

This is why it’s a bad idea to let your current boss know that you’re shopping around.  Please do me a favor and vote for me in the troll derby at http://www.mwcboard.com.
