festar35ParticipantThis team could really shape how the off-season looks in the NBA.
The main guy we will look at is Al Horford and I think the Hawks just getting swept Cleveland shows that this team just isn’t on that level. Short of attracting Durant or James (They aren’t coming) to Atlanta I think this team remains a solid play-off contender, but nothing more.
Now if Horford leaves (IMO likely) I think we see them go into re-build mode with Bazemore being left to free agency, trades coming for Teague, Milsap and Korver.
Milsap would be key for them as he could bring back young prospects or picks from teams like Boston or Minnesota. The dark-horse would be Toronto with their 2 1st rounders, T-Ross and Patrick Patterson for salary purposes as Milsap is worth $20mil next season.
Teague could find a late 1st rounder or maybe and an expiring contract the team I look at is Indiana with the 20th pick and G.Hill’s expiring deal who could be flipped to a contending team for another young asset, maybe Indiana asks for Hardaway Jnr. as well.
Korver is not quite as good as he was, but could still be a fantastic shorter off the bench and bring back a couple of 2nd round picks and maybe another young propsect. The Bucks have multiple 2nd rounders and could undoubtedly use the spacing Korver would provide.
Atlanta could look way different next season and they could still set themselves up very nicely for the future as they have a fantastic coaching staff who could develop him.

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantNo way you’re getting a top ten pick, another first rounder, a good young guy in TRoss, and a stretch 4 for just millsap. That’s a lot for one player

Stop_basketball_nonsenseParticipantWell love got more than that for him and Paul is much better in my opinion, so it is possible, I’m not sure if you mean Millsap specifically, isn’t worth that, he seems to be close to being in decline from his prime., but if he is the missing piece to making Toronto a real contender in the eyes of the Toronto organization, why not?

OhCanada-ParticipantI’ve been thinking about this for a while. I always come back to the realization that the Hawks are a good organization and they will not hand Millsap to Toronto the team viewed as the #2 team in the East and likely to face Cleveland in the Eastern Finals. It is nice to dream though.
I think of Horford and Millsap as possible targets for the Raptors in trade or FA. The Hawks have been swept two years in a row by the Cavs. If the Raptors play well againdt Cleveland it could be the perfect recruiting pitch. It would defenitely help if Toronto could land Horford in Free Agency and/or trade for Millsap. They did already grab Carroll so he would be the perfect recruiter.
If this trade did happen Patterson wouldn’t be involved. He is a perfect guy to be Millsaps backup and is a key part of Toronto’s current success. Having Patterson able to play off that bench can keep an aging Millsap rested and at around 28-30 mpg.
As a Raptors fan I would love to see Millsap play for the Raptors. Thoughts of Shawn Marion, Hero Turkoglu and Jermaine O’Neal talented guys that ruined team chemistry do scare me although I think Millsaps game compliments Lowry’s, Valanciunas and Derozans game perfectly and could help bring stability offensively while contributing to the teams defence.

festar35ParticipantThe thing is that Patterson would need to be involved from a salary cap perspective. He and T-Ross earn $17mil between them next year and Milsap is owed $20mil, no one short of trading Derozan, Lowry or Jonas could make the deal work froma financial point of view as no one else earns enough to make the difference.
Toronto will not be in a position once Derozan is resigned to take on such a large contract like Milsap’s without sending players out and Patterson is that guy.

BiggysmallsParticipantIf I’m running the Twolves, and Atlanta decides to blow it up. I call them up and offer the No. 5/6 pick, Bazz and Payne for Millsap and Korver.
Not sure if that works salary wise, but think ATL getting a top-5 pick would be a nice rebuilding start and Millsap would be a great fit in Minny. Korver played for Thibs and they need shooting.
Maybe that’s super unrealistic…I’m good at ripping other people’s trade ideas but not good at thinking of my own haha.

dmo21ParticipantGoing off your Minny idea, I will raise you a 3 team trade for a total Atlanta rebuild.
Atlanta-Minnesota trade: Millsap and Korver for Pekovic, Muhammed, Payne, and 2016 pick (Pekovic added to make numbers match, plus he is a pretty good player when healthy).
Atlanta-Milwaukee-New Orleans trade:
Atlanta gets: Evans and MCW
Milwaukee gets: Teague and Ajinca
New Orleans gets MonroeAtlanta can re-sign Bazemore or sign a guy like Barnes or Batum (requirement is, the name has to start with a B). Lets say they offer the max to Barnes and Golden State doesn’t match.
ATL Lineup:
PG: Shroeder (MCW)
SG: Evans (Sefalosha)
SF: Barnes (Muhammed)
PF: Scott (Payne)
C: Pekovic (Splitter)Plus, they still have their 2016 draft picks to put into this lineup. A team like that could still make the playoffs in the east and would be set up quite well for the future.

OhCanada-ParticipantThat team does not make the playoffs out East. Barbequed chicken down low! Pekovic, Splitter, Scott and Payne cannot hang with Love, Valanciunas, Bosh, Whiteside, Turner, Drummond, Horford, Millsap, Gortat, Lopez etc. out east. Just looks like a small injury prone team that can’t shoot and is turnover prone.

dmo21ParticipantI agree this team would be weak down low. But it is a guard oriented league nowadays (who does Boston have down low?). Plus, this wouldn’t be a final team. They’d still have their lottery pick form Minnesota plus they could sign other players.
Not like they would do any good in the playoffs, but they could potentially be in the running for the 8th spot.
