Maybe some Villanova fans can enlighten me, but I’ve been really scratching my head to see the reason why Daniel Ochefu isn’t being talked about more as a potential second round pick. He’s got pretty good size and length for an NBA center at 6’11. His stats don’t jump off the page at first glance, but when you take into account that he only played 23 minutes game and look at his per 40 numbers, his rebounding and block numbers are among the top in the NCAA. He didn’t get to showcase his scoring ability much in Villanova’s guard oriented offense, but he’s got really good hands and surprisingly solid post moves that look like they could be developed.

The more I see footage on him the more I think he should almost be a lock for the second round. Provides very good rim protection and defensive rebounding at 6’11, good all around athlete who can run the floor and finish above the rim, by no means a stiff on the offensive end, only 22 (despite having a mild case of Greg Oden-esque old man face) and was clearly willing to take a play his role and take a backseat (in terms of minutes) to help his team win the title. What am I missing here?

Well, if that’s the case then I would love to see miami consider him as part of their summer league team should he get undrafted. He’ll be a decent replacement for Whiteside should he leave miami for big money.
