I was watching ESPN’s First Take this morning and they were discussing how this could be it for the clips. That they might blow up the team a little? Steven A. even though I can’t stand him said that CP3, if he were to leave would want to go play with LBJ. Now I was wondering what if the Clippers decided to do a CP3 and Blake Griffin for Kyrie and K. Love? Personally I think pragmatically speaking all those individuals would benefit from a change of scenary. I’m not sure if any of the contracts would line up money wise but I’m sure it could be done. There were rumors of Blakes name floating around the deadline.

Cavs clearly win that trade, so they’d have to do more. CP3/Blake is undoubtedly better than Kyrie/Love. CP3 is the pass first point guard that LeBron would love, and Blake could thrive being the 3rd option.

Cavs have also used nearly all of their assets, so I have no idea what else they could even throw in.

I like the idea of it, and it sounds good on a forum, but in all likelihood this has about a 0.0005% chance of ever happening.

PS – first post in nearly a year. I still roam the site a lot, great site!

I think the cavs would have to give up more than that.. atleast  1 first round pick, even as the clippers are desperate.  If the cavs could do it by only giving up 1 or by swiching picks, i would do it in a heart beat

Thompson, Griffin, Lebron, Smith and Paul would be deadly.

I would make a trade based around Irving for Paul but idk if the Cavs have enough assets to pull it off. I strongly believe that Paul is in a different class then Irving that no amount of 1st round picks outside of the lottery can make up for.

The Clippers need to do something if they hope to win any truly meaningful games in the CP3 era. If they are at the point that they no longer believe they are championship contenders then trading CP3 for Kyrie Irving might be a good choice. They both have the tendency toward being injury prone, but Irving is younger and might be glad to stop competing with Lebron to handle the ball.

What the Clippers need most is someone else making player personnel decisions because Doc Rivers has yet to make any strong moves though trades, free agency, or the draft. The roster isn’t actually any better than the roster he took over and he has traded future picks for marginal improvement. Doc’s a good coach, but is mediocre at putting a team together.

I don’t think CP3 and LeBron would workout too well because LeBron will not give up having the ball out of his hands, and CP3 is the game’s best floor general, so it wouldn’t really make sense for him to ever play off ball. Too many chefs in the kitchen.

Kyrie is who LeBron is best suited to play with, no matter what people say. He can play off ball because he’s an elite shooter and he doesn’t need to play point guard; he’s essentially the Cavs’ 2guard. He can do that while still being a competent distributor and averaging 22 points a game very efficiently. Rare stuff.

I would say that going to the clippers makes a lot of sense for Kyrie, in a sense. He could average 24 ppg there and maybe start something good with Love or griffin, depending on how the trade worked out.

Not to long ago Kyrie was mention as one of the premier pg’s in the league and K love was one of the hottest comodities for a trade. Rick fox and Isiah Thomas (Pistons) had a debate on nba tv as the wether or not kyrie is top 5 pg. They said Kyrie isn’t in there top 5 anymore due to the fact he’s injured all the time. Has LBJ stunted Kryie’s growth also? Would have loved to have seen Kyrie and Andre Wiggins together just to see what that would have looked like. Also was Kevin love and Blake griffin equal before love was traded to Cleveland. Just shows you how being on bad teams makes so so players look like great ones. Someone needed to get stats and Love did that for ‘Sota

LeBron makes that deal in a millisecond. I don’t think the Clippers would. CP3 is 10 times the player.

If I am the Clippers I say yes, but I also know I can get more out of Cleveland so while saving a little money and getting a bit younger and healthier while getting two stars on long deals, I would ask for a future first rounder as well.

Irving is six years younger, so Clippers win there with Paul out.  Love can shoot from long range, which has to fit better next to Jordan at center.  Love is a west coast/L.A. person also.

GM LeBron gets his friend at poing guard, and Blake either plays or gets sent to the Knicks for his friend Carmelo.

I could see the Clippers sending CP3 to the Cavs for Kyrie and a little something more. The Celtics could then prolong their success, considering Kyrie’s pretty young and Doc might be able to mature him a little. Blake Griffin is a different story and I don’t think he could be in any kind of package with Paul. They can get a lot for him. There was talk of Durant signing with the Clippers and having the Thunder do a sign and trade so that they end up with Griffin instead of nothing. But does Durant want that? Point being, the Clips need to trade Paul and Griffin separately, if they do trade them, because they are both worth a lot.

Both sides of the trade win but in different senses. If your evaluating right now of course CP3 is better than kyrie overall but the clippers need to change the direction of the team and kyrie would bring that. Secondly he’s 7 years younger than Chris and still has time to improve as a floor general and defensively while giving them a foundational piece for the future. As previously stated kyrie is probably a better fit on the cavs considering he can play off the ball, probably more so than Chris because he’s bigger and more of a finisher. Although LeBron probably wouldn’t mind deferring ball handling duties considering their relationship and CPs history as one of the best point guards the NBA has ever seen.
