TiosecoParticipantAs per Woj, the Lakers have just fired Byron Scott
https://twitter.com/WojVerticalNBA/status/724433822226501632 Who do you guys think they should hire? Will they go with a big name coach or go for an under the radar one?

ballislyfe25ParticipantTop candidates have to be Luke, Blatt, and Messina from the Spurs right? I’d like JVG but I doubt he is interested.

MopgrassParticipantLuke Walton would be a great coach for a contender. Maybe we’ll see if he can build a team. Scott Brooks would have been great for developing players, but they oddly waited until now.
Byron Scott was quoted saying Jordan Clarkson needed to improve defense next year because "analytics don’t lie." Now I’m not sure if he believed that or if he wanted to keep his job. He’s a little bit of a fall guy, but he definitely embarrassed himself more than a few times in his old school-ness. I think that one massive loss, D’Angelo-Young incident, and inability to win after they were guaranteed the 2nd worst spot were the real nails in the coffin. Obviously, he’s bad at taking direction, his sense of discipline is antiquated, he can’t communicate with players, and he can’t teach his team X’s and O’s or even what all of his plays are. However, before his injury Nance was getting way better, Randle improved, Clarkson improved, and Russell got night and day better. He did what they needed him to do. In fact, I’m not sure improving much is the best move. Their pick is top 3 protected and there are some great guys in the 2017 draft. And if they keep it, the 1st rounder they owe Orlando becomes 2nd rounders.
Instead, the Lakers are tipping their hand here. They’re not going to develop their players slowly/naturally. They’re going to go after free agents. Yes, it’s a mistake, but Jim Buss made that stupid playoff promise.

MopgrassParticipantSteven Smith says call Jerry West, apologize, and get him in there while grooming his son to be next in line. Does Jerry even pick up that call?

BiggysmallsParticipantI don’t think Byron Scott is a good coach so this was probably a long time coming. At the same time, I’m not sure what a better coach would’ve done differently. The organization is pathetic basically dedicating an entire season to one guy’s "farewell tour" and selling out for free agents every summer. It was bound to happen eventually that people would stop going there and they’ve had nothing good in the pipeline for years.
I’m sure they’ll try to cut corners in the offseason signing bunches of free agents and I would assume Walton is the guy that gets the job. They seem to be very much about the country club…like most organizations are.
I would be really surprised in they went with an unknown commodity. Doesn’t seem very Lakers like…everything has to sizzle and splash in LA…for better or worse.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’ve watched a ton of Lakers games over the past 2 seasons and Scott was an awful hire from the start. Not that he wasn’t put in a pretty much impossible situation, but you would watch this team play and wonder if any coaching was really being done at all. Their offensive sets were archaic and defense was atrocious. He would give Kobe a green light to do whatever he wanted, regularly overplayed him to the point he was costing the team wins and breaking down his body. Then he would basically just blame the young guys when they lost. It was clear that the young players didn’t respect him or have confidence in him. This was a move that absolutely needed to happen. I believe Scott was a decent NBA coach at one time but that time has clearly passed.
I would like to see them hire a younger, more innovative coach who will be able to relate to and grow with the roster around them. Walton and Messina should be the 2 names they should target imo. I think van gundy is an excellent coach, but I question how much patience he will have with this roster and he will probably want more control over decisions than the Lakers would be willing to grant.

I CALLED GAMEParticipantWith Scott Brooks & Thibs off the board I can only see the Lakers making a move for Luke Walton because thats what the Lakers are missing a rookie head coach that was drafted by the Lakers to go with there young developing talent I think this summer will consist of the Lakers begging anyone to take Nick Young may be move Lou Williams aswell for a draft pick or another young player, resigning Clarkson &, Black. I also see the Lakers signing Jabari Brown back, I believe after draft workouts & combine workouts & player interviews are finished the Lakers will end up selecting Brandon Ingram if they are in the position to do so. I also see them targeting Whiteside & DeRozan & Durant but they probably will end up with just Whiteside and DeRozan I just don’t see KD leaving OKC he doesn’t strike me as the type of dude that will run from his current situation because they haven’t won it all. & if the Lakers are able to work a trade for Young or Williams they must get draft picks or young players in return. The selling point of the team is the young core & the new coach & the location.

nychoopsterParticipantAm waiting to see if Magic sends out the same tweet that he did when Dantoni resigned. Remember the one that proclaimed that happy days were here again.
