valentineJeff Van Gundy stated on air that he believes Dellavedova will get more than $10m per season in restricted Free Agency this year.
I’ve made a lot of wild claims on here, and they’ve come with their fair share of ridicule.
The one guy I’ve stood by the whole time is Dellavedova, who is probably the least respected player in the league. Every time, people have continuously shot him down.
Comments included: "his shot is ugly" or "he’s dirty" or "he’s got no talent, he’s just scrappy"…no-one, besides me, has ever acknowledged that he’s simply just a very good player who helps his team win.
The best you’ll get from someone is that he’s "much improved"….which is a half-assed attempt at admitting they were wrong about him the whole time. He was a stud in college, and has always been a great contributor in limited minutes on the court. People just couldn’t get past their dislike for him to acknowledge that he was always a great player.
Do you agree with Van Gundy….or is Delly still "trash" and "the dirstiest player in the league".

ChoppyParticipantI like Delly and he will get a contract somewhere this season, but at 10mil? Can’t see it happening. I honestly think LeBron makes him look somewhat better than he is, and the support of Irving Love etc possibly inflate his assist totals. If he went somewhere like NY for example, I don’t think he’d look as good. Just my opinion.

phila9012ParticipantHe is like patrick beverly with less athleticism and more playmaking ability. Beverly got about $6 million a year under the old cap. I could see him getting 7 to 10 million a year. I think he needs to be a secondary playmaker though. The bucks would be a good fit for him. A 4 year 30 to 40 million dollar contract seems relatively reasonable. You just have to know that he is a secondary playmaker and is good off the ball, if you expect him to run an offense you might be in trouble.

wonzi_bellsParticipantYeah, Cory Joseph also got $7.5 million a year last summer and there’s just more cash out there to spend.

All of these things can be true, and they kind of are. But that does not take away from his effectiveness. He plays so hard it’s contagious. I would take him on my team anyday.
He probably will get 10 mil this year. There is going to be so much money flying around you at least know what you’re going to get with him. Part of it is because him as a basketball player, and part of it because a lot of players are going to get a lot of money.

Hype MachineI’m no salary cap expert, but do you think the Cavs will match if its around that 10m range?

publius2481ParticipantAssuming they do not renounce all their free agents (somehow I doubt they will say goodbye Lebron), they will be over the cap, so there is no reason not to match. They will not be able to bring in a replacement if they let him leave and he is a valuable role player for them. They are in win now mode, so they need to spend to win

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantI’m not really getting it here. Delly is worth 10 mil a year. He’s a solid backup with real playoff and finals experience.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe more I think about it the more I could kind of see delly being the new school Derek Fisher. Fisher was a limited player who maximized every bit of his potential. He was a gritty competitor who was borderline dirty at times but that was part of what made him so effective. He was a guy who had nerves of steel, who you would want to go to war with any day of the week. I actually see a lot of those same traits in dellavadova. The guy is definitely not afraid of the moment.
With that being said, I think delly is probably in the perfect situation in Cleveland and there is no way they could afford to pay him 10 million a year with their cap situation being what it is. A weaker team may be more likely to pay him close to that range, but I think on a less talented team he would be far less effective and his weaknesses would be exposed a lot more. I think he really is one of those guys that needs to be on the floor with high level players.

ExumInfernoParticipantJVG becomes Lakers coach, first thing he does is 5 years and $50million for Dellavedova. Would be funny.
He will get a raise, he can’t get that much per year. He can’t start for a good team, his many weakness are hidden by playing with LeBron and Love, and while it now goes in his shot is ugly. You don’t want fans having to watch that, and put up ticket prices to cover his salary of $10million.
He probably gets somewhere between Mills and Baynes money, and if the Cavs win the title they will more likely overpay him.
He has been a bargain for the Cavs.

BiggysmallsParticipantLike all things, there’s probably a halfway point between Delly’s biggest detractor and Hype Machine.
He’s a nice backup PG. His shot is ugly, though its effective. He was terrific in college, denying that would be stupid. I don’t know if he shold be considered dirty, but he is an irritant. That’s not illegal and every team would like to have a guy like that.
He has value. He’s not "a great player". I have no idea what the market rate is for a top-7 or 8 backup point guard. If it’s 10 mil and Delly sets the new market good for him. That’s an awful lot of money for a guy that averaged 7.5 points on 6.7 shots.

DolanCareParticipantHe could command $10 million a year but that team would be hampered. A move reminscent of the era when half of the league’s front offices were run by Vlade Divac equivalents. On a true contender, he’s the 7th man. Someone who plays 18 minutes a night with the relibility to play 30 minutes if the matchups dictate so.
I like the Derek Fisher comp provided by @Dazzling_Dunks a few posts above this one. Delly could have a similar role, even as a starter, if his team is loaded with talent and doesn’t need another person touching the ball. His role works in Cleveland, but what about OKC. Kanter’s contract probably prevents this but I think Delly would be great for the Thunder. The Roberson/Morrow at SG experiment has proved to be stifling, whereas Delly’s all around game would open up the offense so much. He would be a good contrast to Payne as well.

nath09ParticipantIf you look at stats I guess he’s not worth $10 million; but it is so hard to quantify the value of how much heart and hussle he puts in to each game.
I would love to see him on the Pelicans to show them how to hang tough or on Houston to show them how to play with heart. I should say I would like to see how he would impact those aspects of those two teams. I would LIKE to see him on Bulls or Warriors.

holefillers1ParticipantHis PG duties are supplemented by Lebron. If he gets 10mil per year then I guess thats the new 6mil per year deal with this increased cap. I think a heady PG with playoff experience is a plus for your team. I’m not sure he is a good fit with a non cotender though.
