Sounds like an English comedian, or someone unable to say Kenny Anderson.

Expected the big-money billionaire to sign a big name to coach the Nets.  This is a surprise.

I’ve been capping for him for a year in here. One of the best assistant coaches and he’s one degree removed from the Spurs-Popovich circle with his connection to Budenholzer. Player development is his forte and he’s more of an offensive coach yet tough minded. Also, came from the D’Antoni tree, which is how he got his start in the NBA.

So easy how Sean Marks made that choice. I wanted the Timberwolves to hire him. Best of luck to him, he’ll need it with that roster but if Marks gets him players, watch out!

Big name doesn’t always equal to big success. I just hope the guy knows what he’s getting in to. Brooklyn has no  picks until what 2018? And at the moment not the hottest spot for FA’s. He’s going to have his work cut out for him.

Should be a solid coach.  He fell somewhere in my top 3 for potential Lakers coaches.  At this point I would take any other person with a pulse over Scott.

I grew up in the neighborhood right off of the University of Richmond campus.  My dad, brother and I would frequently walk to the Robins Center to watch games.  I remember a game where Kenny Atkinson was unconscious from three…….during pre-game warm-ups.  I think he hit about 20 in a row from the corner.  He was a solid player for the Spiders for 4 years.  Just a funny story.  Maybe ExumInferno should learn a little more about the guy before he starts bashing him on here.

I always like to look at college or professional stats of coaches when they were players. I tend to believe coaches take a bit from what made them excel in their playing style into their coaching. That’s why I like it when coaches were point guards or point forwards that pass and shot threes well, which Atkinson was.

Not a name who was touted for a lot of jobs but he has a very solid resume as a lead assistant and clearly did a good job with the Hawks. He is seen as a good developer of players but a lot will depend on what moves Sean Marks can make to rebuild the roster.

The Nets have a potential late first rounder next year and no other first rounders until 2019 I believe. So Sean Marks will have to get creative, Jarrett Jack has a $6.3 million team option he may be able to do something with and could get value for Brook Lopez in a trade perhaps.

An assistant before, with no real experience.  The Nets are really going with extra effort to give Boston the best picks.

A GM with no experience, and now a coach also with training wheels.

What star free agent is going to want to join that bunch of no-name staff.  Jackson, Van Gundy, Thibodeau, Karl, all available.

Some Nets fans may not understand that they are competing in New York.  No big-name player, no-big name coach, no chance.

I find it very funny that the billionaire who keeps saying he is commited to a championship is now penny-pinching and hiring people with no track record in their new job.

He is really going to be their Brett Brown.  A cheap coach who will lose hundreds of games while the team is bad, and then be moved out for a good coach when the team starts to turn things around.

Trying to buy a championship is exactly what got the Nets into this situation.  Marks is coming in to try build a culture and develop players to make up for the mistakes of Billy King and ownership.

lin credits him for revitalizing his career when both guys were in ny.atkinson has a reputation around the nba for being a great teacher..and having that euro experience along with working under d’antoni and with disciples of pop can only help..he’s going to need all the help he can get with the nets..

but i think its about time more long time asst. coaches get chances like ewing, fitzdale, stephen silas, jay larranega and ettore messina(who was the guy i thought marks would hire). nate macmillian deserves another shot..

With the team having no draft assets would a big name coach go there when there are other teams with proven talent who have available coaching gigs.

I’ll be very interested to see what Sean Marks can do to rebuild the roster. They own no real draft picks for 3 more drafts so cannot do a Hinkie tank. They may have some cap space but would not be a top choice location for top FA’s. Vets want to be on contenders too so I don’t see an easy way out.

Brook Lopez has trade value and is probably near his peak but moving him makes them worse and plays into Danny Ainge and Boston’s hands. They could get a nice package for Lopez but rebuilding would take time.

Thad young is a good player but has a 3 year deal to absorb and whilst he might have trade value, he wouldn’t bring in major picks or young assets back.

My one fun idea for Brooklyn is to sign some vets who already have titles on short term deals, trade Lopez to get some assets in and try to stay semi competitive for a couple of years. The cap can then be cleared by 2018/19 when they can tank to get high picks or look to add some better FA’s.
