Adam Silver had addressed where the ads will be placed on the jersey. As I speculated, it will be on the right should opposite of the Nike logo.

An NBA jersey is $300… so you’d think jerseys are making enough dough for the league already.

Personally, I wouldnt buy one at that price but others clearly do.

Silvers approval rating is sinking as we speak.

Only a …… would make this ‘business’ decision.

I’ll leave it up to you to fill in the blank with the word of your choice.

Well, remember you writing ignorant, bigoted things before, though thought you might have gone a step above arambone/T-Rex. Guess I was wrong. You really think Adam Silver came up with the concept of ad space on jerseys? Plus that it is all for retail purposes. Sports is a business, and not all of the owners are the "blank" you are pointing to, but it is going to be 2.5" and it is rampant in a game that has even more global prowess than basketball.

But yes, how incredibly observant of you. Fight the power. Other people can fill in the blank with their choice of word.

Took the words right out of my mouth. And how is Adam Silver approval rating going down. He’s generating more money to the NBA and he’s expanding the NBA’s brand.

I dont believe anyone who says they like the idea of more advertising, nor that the decision is in the interest of developing the global brand. That money is for profit.

The reality is NBA Owners are now making a few more millions and kids with jerseys their parents cant afford are wearing mcdonalds logos (or have unauthentic jerseys).

I’ll stop being a bigot when greedy businessmen like Mr Silver stop exploiting their (perhaps overly) loyal customers and perpetuating stereotypes.

The decision isnt even close to being in the favour of the basketball community. Some advertising…yes. This much? NO!

Myself and the majority of people who have replied think its a terrible idea.

Whatever they are making on those jersey logos does not result in a net overall improvement of the product. It adds to the saturation of advertising and commercialism. It lines the pockets of the owners and players who clearly dont need it given their business’s financial performance.

Some think its ugly, some think its greedy, some think its too much advertising.

I think its all of the above. Adding to the quality of the sport globally is a bogus arguement. People watch the sport because great athletes are playing a great game. They tolerate the advertising. Im calling the commissioner out on this one.

          Adam…stop being so damn greedy!

I’m not a fan of the advertising on jerseys but will live with it because how can it not be good for the game? If owners start making more money then more owners will want to put their money into the nba. You say it’s not in the best interest of the basketball community, these owners are willing to pay these max contracts to the stars the basketball community want to watch so if they can make a few million extra by putting a logo on the side or top of a jersey and other big money businessman decide the NBA is a good investment for them it makes the league stronger.

Other sports you refer to have nowhere near the same levels of commercialism.

Very few television advertisements, and a much bigger battle to stay financially viable.

When a team like Philly can set a 5 year plan around losing and not even consider profitability, that is as much of a sign as any that extra revenue sources at the expense of the community is unwarranted.

In sports you speak of, advertising on jerseys is common because 99% of the teams would be insolvent and relegated to the lowest division if they dont raise enough money to pay good players. Even good teams are actually struggling. Any spare money is given to players and most owners operate at a loss.

On the plus side…ownership isnt restricted to 30 greedy men who put up massive barriers to entry.

Ah yes, I forgot that a 2.5" advertisement adversily affects me so much.

I am not in love with jersey advertising idea.  I consider myself old school and I don’t feel the owners need to sell sh!t just to make a bit more profit.  It isn’t like the owners need the cash.  When is enough, enough?

       I agree.

Those logos are only going to get bigger..and theyll be on jerseys for sale to the public.

Dont discount the idea of gambling advertising, which is just around the corner too (a huge potential revenue raiser).

Just what families need. Kids as walking billboards and exposed to a lifetime of gambling advertising.

      Way to enrich the community…

Silver is a horrible person, he has done nothing for basketball.  Just handed a job he has no ability for.

I would like to know which, if any, owners voted against ruining their jerseys.  Maybe the Clippers and Mavs and Kngs have owners who don’t care about tradition or behaving with class, but there would have to be some among the 30 who think a couple of extra dollars in the pile is not worth making their team look stupid.

i’ll start caring when i start seeing the adds on the jerseys instead of the players wearing them, playing the game i want to watch and enjoy. if i can tell one team from the other and that both teams are wearing standard uniform, i dont really care what i see them wear or how much.

For those piling on the hatred for Mr. Silver, I suggest getting more information.  The pressure to sell ads on jerseys was coming from networks.  The owners really don’t benefit that much since any ad revenues will be split between the players, and the networks.

It is a fact that owners have not been pushing for ads, and in fact many have resisted it.  Silver represents the owners’ interests, and one can reasonably surmise that if he is proposing this then the majority of owners are in favor of it.  Essentially this is a move being made in response to pressure from networks who want more return on their TV contract investment.

I don’t care who is making the decision to nascar advertise on jerseys.   There is already enough revenue being generated without it.

Whether it is from Silver or other corporate entities it is based upon greed.  They bleed us enough already as fans where to me it cheapens their product.  Are players going to be able to sell tattoo space on their bodies or does the league already own that right?
