Went from projected first rounder, to 2nd rounder, now not even on the site’s mock draft. You think he improves his draft stock at least back to the second round after this tournament? He’s been shooting hot and leading the team very well.

Also didn’t know he had some hops…he’s only 6’1 or 6’2. Look at this in-between the legs dunk.

Paige doesn’t lead the team anymore. Joel Berry does. Paige is just a 6’1 shooter and as a senior, he should be doing much more if he wanted a chance to get drafted. There’s only one game left in his college career so there’s no chance that his stock changes. He’s going undrafted but will probably be contacted by teams shortly after the draft, like Quinn Cook was last year

When I said leader, I didn’t mean as a point guard I know Paige has been playing off-guard this season. I don’t mind him going undrafted, I hope a team at least picks him up for their summer league squad.

I’m well aware of what you meant, it’s just wrong. Joel Berry has been the vocal leader for this team and runs it. You could try to argue that Paige leads by example with his play, but it’d be a poor arguement. The only game that he has stood out this tournament was against Indiana where he got hot early. Whether it’s been due to previous injuries or a change in role, Paige has been disappointing this year despite UNC’s success.  Their leaders are Berry and Brice Johnson. Paige is an important role player as a "shooter" that shoots 39% from the field and 35% from three. He’s the only threat UNC has from 3 and can get hot, but he takes a lot of bad shots. He’ll get picked up for a summer league team but there’s no way he’s on a team’s opening day roster because he does nothing better than average. ESPN continues to hype him up, but he’s been declining since his sophomore season ended.

This is out right blasphemy. Not only is Macus Paige a leader, he is THE leader for this team. On and off the court. In the locker room. Behind the scenes. He’s the extension of Roy Williams.

Now has his game taken a step back this year? Yes. Was his sophmore & junior year the best of Paige? Yes. And in terms of his NBA stock (considering this is a NBA draft site) – I understand the dissapointment. But to say he’s not a leader is out of bounds.

I would say along with the Indiana game…he definitely stood out Sat night. When Syracuse started to push back, he knocked down 3 triples. And as far as the vocal leader, he has the most carte blanche on the roster and is someone who gets on guys in the locker room. More so than anyone on the team.

Here’s a video released by the ACC just yesterday highlighting Paige as such.

          "He’s been a leader..As good a leader as I ever had" – Roy Williams

I think what will ultimately determine whether Paige gets drafted or not is the numbers he puts up in the athletic testing aspect of the pre-draft workouts.

We know he can play basketball, but what we don’t know is can he keep up in the NBA. If he tests well I think the 2nd round would be a good spot for him and if things workout he could have a career as a solid back-up PG.

Last year watching him play, he really looked alot like Brandon Jennings. Especially when Paige would go off in the second half of games and would look for his shot more often. Maybe its the fact that hes a lefty and theyre around the same size.

After his sophomore season when he was unconscious, I thought he would definitely be a first round pick.  He played through plantar fasciitis last year and still put up decent numbers.  This year he really struggled shooting the ball.  I think he was like 3-30 from 3 during a 4 game stretch.  That’s brutal.  I believe Marcus is an NBA player.  He’ll go somewhere in the late second round to undrafted.  I agree the NBA combine will be huge for me.  He’ll have to prove he’s athletic enough to keep up in the NBA and I think he will.

I’ve had plantar fasciitis..its a killer. Theres no explaination for how it comes…and no way to cure it…it just goes away. Technically you can play with it, but it takes away so much from your game. You can’t judge someones draft stock if theyre playing with it. You wake up and literally cant walk every morning..and you cant practice. Then when game rolls around, you will lose all athletic advantage.

I didn’t know Marcus Paige had it…but it explains his regression. Hes a sleeper for me now based on this alone.

For someone trying to protect draft stock, its almost better to sit out cos to the naked eye, it just looks like someone has just gotten worse.

One thing about Roy Williams coached teams is that his teams are not nearly as effective as they are when the leading scorer is a bigman.  Let me take you down memory lane.

2003-2004 leading scorer Rashad McCants 20 ppg (2nd round exit)
2004-2005 leading scorer Sean May 17.5 ppg (National Champions)
2005-2006 leading scorer Tyler Hansbrough 18.9 ppg (Second round exit, but overachieved overall with most depleted roster in Roy’s tenure)
2006-2007 leading scorer Tyler Hansbrough 18.4 ppg (elite 8)
2007-2008 leading scorer Tyler Hansbrough 22.1 ppg (final four)
2008-2009 leading scorer Tyler Hansbrough 20.7 ppg (national champions)
2009-2010 leading scorer Deon Thompson 13.7 ppg (NIT runner-ups)
2010-2011 leading scorer Tyler Zeller 15.8 ppg (Elite 8)
2011-2012 leading scorer Harrison Barnes 17.1 ppg (Elite 8)
2012-2013 leading scorer PJ Hairston 14.6 ppg (2nd round exit)
2013-2014 leading scorer Marcus Paige 17.5 ppg (2nd round exit)
2014-2015 leading scorer Marcus Paige 14.1 ppg (sweet 16)

2015-2016 leading scorer Brice Johnson 17.0 ppg (National Title Game, possible champions)

Notice the lack of success (for UNC’s standards) without a bigman playing at an elite level in bold.  I love Marcus for his sophomore season, but it was paramount for UNC’s overall success that an elite bigman emerged and it has been Brice Johnson this season.  Many thought McAdoo could, but he simply did not develop a touch around the basket or a good IQ.  I think all parties involved Brice, Marcus and Roy realized this, and while more consistent play from Marcus would have been appreciated this season, I would not trade better stats for Marcus for an opportunity to play for the championship tonight.

Next season Isaiah Hicks is going to have to make a huge leap in production for UNC to be elite again, but for now, I am looking forward to the game tonight and hoping the good guys come out on top 🙂
