With these predictions I took into account fit/system (ex. Marvin Williams, Hornets), role expansion (ex. Al-Farouq Aminu, Blazers), and $$$ (ex. Greg Monroe, Bucks) for top 20 free agents IMO.  Also I am not including players with team or player options on their current contracts (sorry LeBron, Dwight, DeReson, Parsons and Gasol). With that said, there are my predictions

    Resigning with their Current Team.

    Kevin Durant: Thunder

    Andre Drummond: Pistons

    Bradley Beal: Wizards

    Dwayne Wade: Heat

    Nicolas Batum: Hornets

    Festus Ezeli: Warriors

    Lance Stephenson: Grizzlies

    Jeff Green: Clippers

    Signing with a New Team.

    Al Horford: Blazers

    Michael Conley: Knicks

    Hassan Whiteside: Lakers

    Harrison Barnes: Pelicans

    Rajon Rondo: Jazz

    Al Jefferson: Celtics

    Ryan Anderson: Wizards

    Jordan Clarkson: Nets

    Joakim Noah: Heat

    Evan Fournier: Nets

    Kent Bazemore: Warriors

    Evan Turner: Knicks

Using RealGm as a reference for the projected cap room for every NBA team  http://basketball.realgm.com/analysis/240096/The-Maximum-Available-2016-Cap-Space-For-All-30-NBA-Teams I rationalized a couple of things.  The Nets are a team with a bleak future, they are giving up a potential top 5 first round draft pick this year to the Celtics and the Celtics have the right to swap 2017 first round draft picks with the Nets as well. Unfourtunately the Nets are going to have to over-spend and are best served over spending on younger talent they can blend in with there young guns in Hollis-Jefferson and McCullough along with their veterans Young and Lopez.  This is a similar strategy to what the Mavericks did when they overpaid for Chandler Parsons two summer ago.  The Lakers will not be matching Clarkson in due to going after Whiteside with a max deal, along with a player like DeRozan or Parsons if they opt out. Conley is a guy who won’t back down from a challenge and I can see him going to the Knicks, he is a point guard who does not need the ball in his hands constantly to make his presense felt. Turner and Anderson would be shoe-ins for the Knicks and Wizards, with both players fitting in their prospective systems.

With both Rondo going to the Jazz and Horford going to the Blazers would be one of fit as both franchises are in need of their skill sets and $$$ as both franchises would have to overpaid for these veterans to go play for smaller markets.  With both the Heat and Warriors losing big pieces to their teams, Noah and Bazemore would give both teams similar type production as Whiteside and Barnes but as cheaper options.  Speaking of Whiteside and Barnes, both players are coming into their primes and I get the sense that both want to have bigger roles despite currently playing for two well run organizations.  Regardless of where these two end up at the end of the summer, they are going to be handsomely overpaid due to the spike in cap room for teams this summer. Al Jefferson going back to the Celtics provides them with both low post scoring and a veteran on a young up and coming team.  The Celtics have a good chance of drafting a young big man in this draft such as Bender, Sabonis, and Poetel who Jefferson can take under his wing.

This is my take on what will/should happen. What are your guy’s predictions for this year’s batch of free agents.

Lakers will match on clarkson. His max deal, which lakers have rights to match, is only 14 million per year plus the first year of the deal is maxed out at 5 million meaning nobody can pay him more then 5 million dollars next season so your logic that lakers will lose out on him if they offer big deals to others is incorrect.

I take it that you’re a Laker fan and I respect that.  But honestly, the Lakers are not going to win with both Clarkson and Russell together, they are just too similar.  Trust me, as a Suns fan I know this having at Bledsoe and Knight on the same team and now being stuck due to Booker being able to provide more variation than Knight to go along with Bledsoe.  Back to Clarkson, don’t you think that the Lakers would rather go hard for DeRozan, a local guy and an already established all star player instead of a still unproven young player in Clarkson? Also, DeRozan is only three years older than Clarkson at 26, a guy who is in the beginning of his prime.

Clarkson is 6-5 and plays sg and Russell is good at playing off ball as a shooter, I don’t see any reason they can’t coexist. As for going after guys like derozan and whiteside, lakers have more money to spend then any team in the league. They could sign derozan, whiteside and clarkson all to max deals this summer with no problem. Again, clarkson at 5 million eligible the first two years won’t impact free agency decisions for a couple years.

The Lakers need talent badly, so they can’t afford to let Jordan Clarkson walk, even if the fit may not be ideal.  IMO, Clarkson would be a stud coming off bench for a team as the first guard, but until the Lakers get a good starting shooting guard (like a Derozan), Clarkson is serviceable as the starter.

I think that when it comes to Clarkson a lot will depend on where/who the Lakers draft.

If the Lakers get Ingram who I think would be their best pick at #1 or #2 I can see Clarkson going else where as Lakers will have plenty of scoring with Ingram, Russell and Randle meaning that 2-spot would be more suited to a 3-D kind of player and they make look for a defensive C.

Clarkson would get a lot less ball as well as a lot less looks.

There’s no way the Jazz will have any interest in Rondo…. other than that, I think all these predictions are possible. As llperez mentioned, I also think the Lakers will keep Clarkson. I’m intrigued by the Horford to Blazers predictioned. I never considered him leaving the Hawks but I like that fit. I could easily see the Pelicans throwing big money at Harrison Barnes as well.

    Great list.

Lol It was a good list but I don’t know why people on this forum keep trying to unload locker room problems on the Jazz.

Ive said this 100 times….forget about anyone who brings off-court problems. They wouldn’t let Rondo play for the league minimum salary.

Lol at Joakim Noah to the Heat. He will not be playing with Wade and Bosh after their career long rivalry. If he doesn’t resign to the Bulls he is more likely a guy to go to a no nonsense team without premadonna stars like the Spurs, Mavs, Grizzlies or Pacers.

Rondo may find his way out of the league soon. Bold prediction but it’s been proven that teams are not being successful having him rack up stats. He would ruin the chemistry in Utah.

Bazemore will likely take the most money available to him which will not be provided by GSW.

Danny Ainge doesn’t go after borderline superstars. He either makes a big splash or continues to collect assets. Al Jefferson is declining and injury prone and would not be a good add for a young successful Celtics team that is likely going to pick top 5 in the next two drafts and have unlimited draft picks available. I think Jefferson will be a Dallas Maverick as Dallas throws around money to talent every year and has a pretty good record signing players.

Whiteside would be extremely wise to go to LA. I think his game would really take off there on that young team especially if they can also add a Simmons or Ingram to the sqaud.

I also like Conley to the Knicks and Barnes to the Pelicans.

I would love to see Horford in a Raptors uniform and I think we have everything he would need to commit including Demarre Carroll. My dream scenario would be Toronto signing Horford and then trading Valanciunas for Millsap of course if he would agree to an extension. If Atlanta loses Horford they will be in deep trouble.

A fun list, but no chance Rondo would want Utah.  The Jazz also have the high pick invested in Exum plus Mack has been good.

Noah back to Florida, makes sense.  Whiteside to Lakers, max money and movies and the Lakers do need a defender.

Horford, if he moves, would want money and a chance to win, Portland are not a contender like some other teams he could go to.

Magic moved out T Harris, clearing future money, so they are unlikely to let Fournier go to the Nets for nothing in return.

Most of the Staying With Current Team work, although Batum might be different.  Only a season in Charlotte so he isn’t settled there, and maybe he wants more of a spotlight on a bigger team after playing his career in obscurity.  The Spurs, and Tony Parker, wouldn’t rule that out.

I think Durant will not be a thunder nxt year because of huge salary cap they have in 2016-2017 roster which dffucult to re sign him..unless a huge trade will be..

    quite a good list.

I think Conley will stay. I cannot see too many quality players wanting to play with melanoma and his franchise crippling contract. If not I think conley will consider Utah, Milwauke or Indiana. As with hype matchine delly maybe to Utah.

Ryan Anderson – Houston tried to trade motie. Houston or Sac could be possibilities here.

Barnes – yes pelicans or even nets. He wants to build his stats and not care about winning – consider him next season for your fantasy team. He will have to get used to losing – he will prob lose more games in his first month with his new team, than he did this entire regular season with GS.

Ezeli will prob stay – bogut is getting older so his time is coming

    Fournier stay.

Milw or Dallas make a play for Noah. Maybe also offer Ezeli or Whiteside

Marvin Williams to GS. Does everything Harrison Barnes does at half the price….

Good suggestions above, I think a lot of RFA’s will be matched even Harrison Barnes even if it puts GSW well over cap. They can always trade him when he becomes eligible for a trade or move him or another player as late as draft night 2017 to get the cap down.

I’ll be interested to see where someone like Al Jefferson ends up and what sort of offers he gets. Opting in last summer was probably a mistake for him as his market value has dropped harply since then. But he is still a solid post player and a return to Boston is an interesting idea but I think Danny Ainge would want a guy with upside or a perfect locker room veteran guy maybe a FA like Nene for example. I could see Jefferson at maybe someone like Dallas.

I think Horford may move on and Portland is a decent call for him too.

Ryan Anderson I think would be a nice fit with the Buks as they are crying out for a 3 point shooter and he’d fit the bill.

I think Born Ready Stephenson stays with Memphis as he is playing some good ball with them.

I am a Jazz fan, and if the Jazz get Rondo, I will completely disown them. He would be the worst player for them to get. And I’m not even quite sure they need a point guard. Mack is doing quite well. They have 3 right now, and only use 2 of them and they have another one who is injured and they’ve invested pretty high in him. I think Exum is more of a 2 guard than a point guard. Also Alec Burks is injury prone, and Exum might not come back the same. I think they have more of a need of shooting guard or center.

i am all for the Jazz making a free agent splash for a point guard, but not Rondo. please oh God please, let them get Mike Conley. I mentioned this in another thread, but Conley to the Jazz is the best case scenario for me. Im very high on Exum, but i dont think he’s still an outstanding starting point guard. his time will come though and should be on the regular rotation.

Conley can come in and serve as his mentor, showing him how to prepare for games, how to breakdown opponents in the video room during off days or after practice. teach  him the nuisances of being a point guard in the NBA and overcome it. Long term, he can be such a positive influence on Dante.

For the now though, its even better. he can be the ideal starting point guard right away who at worst, is as good of a shooter  as mack or burke, and a better deffender than any pg they got in the roster. but he’s a traditional point who directs the tempo of the game, sets up teamates and controls the overall flow. that means easier baskets for everyone while not taking anything away from them,

yes gordon hayward would probably surrender the most touches, but i believe that would actually help his efficiency. Hood might surrender some as well, but i think it wont be much, at least not to the point that they feel would hurt their games.

so thats my bold prediction and off-season wish for the Jazz: Mike Conley

but I also don’t see the Celts taking Jefferson. Not a good fit, both style and age.

They will make a big run for Horford and Durant, maybe Whiteside. I can see them landing Horford. They’ll have the room for a max contract and are on the upswing as a team. If they make a real playoff run, it will help them a lot.

Also, they’ll keep Turner. He is worth more to them than to any other team.

My big free agency prediction. I’ve got 5, all linked.

    1) Thunder fail to make western conference finals.

I agree with some of the projected moves, considering fit & monies, a lot do make sense just feel like certain player options will impact some of the merry-go-round a hint.

Anderson to Washington I like & can see, as well as Durant taking up a 2 year deal to stay put. Coupled with a player option, he can scour the scenary with Russ the following year or they could both work to scale some cash & bring about another marque lad to really have a go at this ring business. Post season results, legitimacy of Spurs & Warriors interest are not to be overlooked though. That & Westbrook’s bid for complete ownership of alpha status in OKC. Projected Clippers sign & trade wont sell, Knicks are a work in progress, he isn’t keen on DC, Miami are between longing stares his way & spending to keep what they have currently. Lakers can be remodeled in his image but leaving Russ for D’Angelo doesn’t immediately scream ring, unless you toss a DeRozan & perchance a Whiteside.

Losing out on KD may mean Whiteside gets his money in South Beach although I like the potential of him in purple & gold. LA have talked up their young core of Randle, Clarkson & Russell. If for anything else, it holds value in a potential trade, I can see a more aggressive push for DMC, Randle perhaps seen as key to any such move, perhaps Clarkson too. Clarkson though brings a sturdy hand off the bench to counter what will ve the bipolar sophomore tendecies of Russell. I can see them rival the Pelicans for Barnes & with Walton there even Ezeli might be of interest although he stays to see out Bogut in a few. Bazemore to fill in for Barnes in the Bay Area. .

Conley hits up the Knicks along with Turner. Jazz will look to back Exum & maybe gamble more on a Kevin Martin. So long as there is no draft day move for DMC Rondo stays in Sacramento. Al Jefferson stays with MJ’s Hornets, Horford does Portland or Boston. D12 is a toss for Orlando or Dallas meaning Pau Gasol will garner interest that could either see him do the brotherly thing in Memphis or hang in SA Antonio. Noah seemed a lock to bolt Chicago but could very well end up staying, otherwise Miami, Lakers, Minnesota, Charlotte & Houston would come calling. Whiteside domino. Mozgov in Houston

Batum will be coveted but will stay put, Lin too. I can see Fournier in Brooklyn or New Orleans, Eric Gordon & Gallinari in Sac. Denver will look to he aggressive so mind them, Atlanta threaten a blow up.
