Mr. JewboyParticipantLately with all the studies and technologies, there has been a big emphasis on sleep and rest in general, in order for players not to get hurt and also be stronger and therefore play better. All types of methods are being used, like yoga and massages being mandatory.
While all this is excellent for both the players and the fans who get to enjoy their favorite players better and more often( less injuries), do you think they may be taking it a bit too far? Kevin Durant, who is only 27 years old, not a champion nor does he have 1st place wrapped up, just sat out a game due to rest. People who paid tocsee him play were robbed of the chance.. So what do you guys think about this whole rest thing?

KingslayerParticipantthe Thunder are virtually (if not literally at this point) locked into 3rd place in the west. They have nothing to gain or lose in the playoff picture over their remaining games. At the very least KD gets a night off from the grind to let his body chill, and at best, the team eliminates any chance of injury for that night in a meaningless game.
As a fan, I’m not opposed to rest. I’m a Raps fan, and every time Casey resists the urge to play Lowry 40+ min against a bad team is a success.

Hype MachineYeah its pretty much a non issue for me…
If a player or doctor says he needs a rest, its kinda hard to argue.
Id probably not watch if it was a meaningless game anyhow, given that theres usually multiple games playing simultaneously.
Fans at the arena get shortchanged, but player welfare comes first.
Close to 100 games for a good team making a deep run….year in, year out. Insanity really.
Im prepared to give KD a break.

ExumInfernoParticipantWith older teams preparing for the playoffs, especially if the veterans have some injuries, there is some justification for resting players. Resting them for away games is the better idea too, better to rip off the other team’s fans and not your own.
But, there are some still in playoff contention as well as those who are out of it who have no reason to rest anyone. Today’s example, the Nets. Bojan Bogdanovic supposedly needs a rest. Why? They can’t tank for a pick, they don’t have one. They are not preparing for the playoffs, they are a decade away from being there. He isn’t hurt. Why pay these lazy players if they can’t be bothered playing?
A recent example, again, the Nets. Lopez needed a rest. Yes he has a history of being hurt, but missing a game isn’t going to change anything, and there is the theory that he could be more likely to be hurt if there is a bigger gap between games as he and his body are out of their routine.
If the team puts up prices because Durant is said to be playing, and he doesn’t play, that team is nothing but a scam artist. That isn’t the way to keep fans or bring in new ones.
Players need to play, AC Green and John Stockton and others have shown that playing all the time can be best for everyone, and rest often leads to rust. Higher salaries for fewer games played, that doesn’t make sense.

CynthiaParticipantConsidering how troubled OKC has been the past few seasons in the playoffs due to injury, it’s very wise to rest Durant when given the chance despite his age. If anything it’s just one less game where he has a chance to get injured. They’re locked in the 3rd spot as far as I know so the rest of the games don’t even matter.
