so when everybody was already burying him, he has elevated his game lately putting again the same old question over the table: is he the timberwolves PG for the next years?

here are his stats in march:

    13.6 pts/4.7 rb/9 ast/2.2 st/ 1.5 3pm/45% FG/91.5% FT….

not bad..and looks like he’s starting to feel pretty comfortable with his shot..

are the timberwolves gonna find someone better at distributing the ball in a loaded team with such talented and offensive players as towns, wiggins, lavine and even dieng? how many balls would they need if they didn’t have a pass 1st PG like rubio?

at the begining of the season, i made a post about players i thought would have a breakout season, and one of them was rubio..he’s taken him some time but i think he’s finally exploding..

he has always said during the season that he was feeling really good with his shot in practices and that he knew sooner or later would improve those percentages…i mean he’s a 85% FT shooter..it’s not like he can’t shoot, it’s just a mental thing that seems he’s starting to overcome..

and the best thing is he’s just 25..

i really think next year will finally be his breakout season everybody is been waiting for..and i think his assist number can go even higher being surrounded with these young and efficient players..

towns is already averaging an outstandind 55% FG and 58.5% in march; wiggins a 45.5% for the season and 50.7% in march and lavine 45.6% and 51.3% in march..pretty amazing..

    thoughts?

The month of March he has been great. Everyone has elevated their game, Rubio is making shots and looking like a complete player. He’s turning into a perfect fit on the Wolves, if the Wolves land another scorer in the draft, Ingram, Buddy or Murray he will a stage over 10 assists a game.

A good back up PG would be really nice ( not hating on Tyus)  having Dunn as a back up to lead the 2nd unit and help if Rubio gets into foul trouble would be great.

I think Rubio is in a perfect spot in Minni and will only get better and more comfortable with time. Next year will be an awesome year for this team, should be the beginning of a lot of winning ahead.

I personally don’t understand what people thought was going to happen with this guy…..I’ve always loved him and felt people expected so much from him so quick that they say he was overrated and the thing is he is severely undervalued around this community…but not the NBA….execs love him….his shot was always going to be a work in progress and I think he finally found his comfort zone…..like what was said he shoots well at the FT line…..shooting is a confidence thing as just as much as ability and both need to be built up on players with broken shots…..his FT % indicates he found his stroke but his inability or unwillingness to shoot 3’s shows a lack of confidence….this team needs to keep Ricky…he is the leader of their young squad and is only a few years older than their elite core of young talent (Towns, Wiggins, Lavine) and fits as the distributor for all these pieces…..they need to play in a fast past offense and I would love to see Rubios shot continue to improve to the point where he has to be respected or he will hit 2 -3 3s a game…..I would love to see them land the #1 pick and go with Ben Simmons…..

The biggest thing with him is consistency. I think this prolonged stretch of being injury free has really helped him out…mainly from gaining confidence in his shot and finding a rhythm to the game. I’m a huge Rubio fan and I really hope he can keep some level of consistency going into next season and the rest of his career.

Love his game. Not many other guys in the league with his passing ability. Minnesota isn’t the greatest fit with Wiggins and Lavine also struggling shooting from deep, but man get those guys running on the break, it’s beautiful. If I was Minnesota I wouldn’t be in a rush to move him, because he still gets his teammates good looks, but maybe long term a better shooter at that spot might be the way to go.

For some reason I really want to see him to the Spurs when Parker is about finished. Would love to see him hit a running Kawhi in stide on the break

Ricky Rubio has the highest defensive rating for any PG in the NBA this season.

I’d say hes the best passer and defender at his position, yet the worst scorer. That makes him hard to evaluate.

One thing I’ve always said about Rubio (and Rondo as well) is that in most other eras he’d be considered a top 10 PG and nobody would be talking about Minny getting rid of him. It’s not that he’s a bad player by any means, he can pass, is a solid defender, plays the passing lanes well and can run an offense. He’s just not the shooter or the explosive athlete that teams look for at PG right now, and with the wealth of talent in the league at PG they often get overlooked.

If Minny can get an elite shooter on the wings and a solid PF (perhaps more of a bruiser to compliment Towns and Dieng), they don’t necessarily need to upgrade at PG in order to become a contender in the West in the future.

With all that offensive talent around him he needs to have a Jason Kidd like renaissance with his 3 ball

I am on the Sabonis To T Wolves bandwagon.

He can help KAT on the boards and then help space the floor with his shooting and passing.

Those two would form 2/3rd’s of a good 3 big man rotation along with Dieng.

Rubio, LaVine, Wiggins, Sabonis, and Towns sounds great on paper.

I think this board has them also taking Tyler Ulis at 45.  That would be a great pick for them.  If they aren’t sold on Tyus Jones as a backup, I think Fred Van Vleet could work, too.

Thomas Walkup would be my sleeper pick at 45 with his leadership, playmaking, and all around game.

Sabonis to the Wolves……there is plenty of spacing there between positions 2-5 and if Ricky gets his 3 pt shot……I’m really excited about them, the Bucks, and the Magics future….Giannis full time ball handler makes this team extremely scary if they make the right pick cough cough Jamaal Murray or Buddy Hield aka another floor spacer!!….id like to see Hield there more than Murray that be great situation for him…..Hield, Middleton, Parker, Giannis, ??? (Prob not Monroe)….that looks great on paper…….then the Magic you have Gordon, Oladipo, Hezonja, Payton , Vucevic and maybe bring back Fournier (expect him to command a nice paycheck this summer though)…..someone wrote a post name 3 you’d keep I think it’s easily Gordon, Hezonja, Oladipo…..to me Gordon and Hezonja have superstar potential or atleast multiple time All Star and then Oladipo is that tough guy that’s the perfect 2nd/3rd banana…..they need a new PG if you ask me…..if only they could get Kris Dunn I know he isn’t the best shooter but he could develop it more overtime…..Vucevic is an enigma to me, one he’s downright offensive on offense….but he needs to be surrounded by a shot blocker….I believe they should trade him over anyone and hopefully get Dunn and make Payton your 6th man……Vucevics value idk what you could get though…….well after all that I still conclude that Minnesota has the brighter future when you have two POTENTIAL MVP candidates on their team and another Super Super Star in LaVine……with the exploding cap they can easily retain all three for as long as they need be and hopefully we won’t see.a Thunder 2.0 then…..

Does Sabonis have quick enough foot work? I like his footwork but I’m not convinced he’s quick enough or has enough of a vertical. He seems to only get a few inches off the ground when he shoots or goes for a board. I haven’t watched too much of his games only highlights. It would be nice to have a big body guy down low. He could become a good fit but I would like Murray or Buddy before Sabonis.
