Chad Ford is talking about it right now on ESPN Chicago 1000. Tyrus Thomas to Utah and Kirk Hinrich to Portland (with obvious other pieces being moved). Sounds great to me. Makes the Taj Gibson draft pick make a little more sense, although they don’t have a back-up point guard that can play defense like Hinrich (Jannero Pargo is not that guy). It makes me want the Bulls to get another guard in this past draft again. I don’t know where Taj would get on the court with Boozer there, although Boozer gets hurt a lot

all 3 teams would benefit from that move. Chicago needs an inside offensive presence, Utah would like to dump Boozer anyways, and Portland get a starting pg who can play great D. I’m pretty sure some other pieces might have to be included to make the salaries work since Boozer makes quite a bit more then the other guys.

Wow…Tyrus is one of my favorite players. I would hate to see him go to Utah. The Jazz is one of my least favorite teams.

I like it from Portland and Bulls perspective but can’t see the undisciplined Thomas playing for Jerry Sloan. He is a good defender but his shot selection will not be welcomed in Sloan’s concept of basketball.

Bulls would need a third guard and would need to make sure they could sign Boozer. If this is a one year proposition, I would rather keep Thomas and Hinrich. Bulls sure should have drafted a guard at #26! Ellington?

I like this trade for all three teams. The Bulls need a low post scorer BAD. They’re taking a risk though because Boozer becomes a free agent next summer and who knows if he’ll re-sign with the Bulls. I hope him signing an extenstion is required in this deal. Tyrus Thomas brings some major athleticism and toughness to Utah’s front court. Hinrich will fit nice in Portland and move Blake to backup point guard where he belongs.

Like someone else said, you must not watch many Bulls games if you have never seen Hinrich play good defense. That’s not a dig at you either, it probably just means you haven’t seen many Bulls games. He was 2nd Team All-NBA Defense a couple of seasons ago and if you watched the Bulls-Celtics playoff series he was doing a heck of a job when he was in there. Heck, he was matched up against a SF in Pierce and did great. I know that a couple of seasons ago isn’t right now but I don’t think that Hinrich is Larry Hughes who forgot how to play defense. I believe that he was injured and just plain played bad in 2007-2008 and was a backup to Rose last season. I don’t think that being a backup to Derrick Rose is something to be ashamed of either. Look at Hinrich’s career numbers and think of him as one of the best perimeter defenders in the league and it should make you happy.

Hinrich is considered the best defender on the bulls. He was the one who gaurded Pierce in the first round. He gets to gaurd the other teams best backcourt player and sometimes sf every game. Any one who knows basketball knows he is a very good defender.

    Bulls get: Bayless, Outlaw, Boozer

    Jazz get: Deng, Gibson

    Blazers get: Hinrich, James Johnson

I like this trade for all teams. Not sure it works financially though. I don’t know if they Jazz would do this because I am guessing they want to get rid of Boozer and save a bunch of cash so they can easily resign Millsap.

is this even a real trade. Boozer on the Bulls will be like how he is playing with Deron Williams but better. This would also help Noah out because now he can focus on being a hustle Chandler like player and not try to score as much. It will also open up the floor for Salmons and others. Also people do not understand how good Pargo is to have on your team. He is a more explosive Eddie House and when he gets hot he can change a game. He did it in New Orleans recently and a few other places before that.

Some really good points. Gatorheels, I like your proposal a lot, but yes, Utah is looking to save money. I heard Chad Ford on radio in Chicago. That’s very important fo them to shed contract dollars to avoid tax

Hinrich was close to all NBA defensive team status. He is a very good defender.

An interesting point was brought up on the radio. Remember it was Jim Paxson that was Cavs GM when Boozer spurned them to go to Utah. BroJohn is of course GM in Chicago and he works for team as advisor to GM or something loosely like that.

Bulls combo of Rose/Boozer would be sweet! Pargo is a good shooter, but team would be in need of combo guard to be 1st off bench. Pargo is a good shooter and explosive scorer when hot, but we need someone who could give 20 minutes/night. Good thing we drafted Johnson I guess because Salmons can’t spend too much time at small forward the way team looks now.

im not gonna say you don’t know anything about basketball, just you don’t realize how good a defender Hinrich is. If you were paying attention during the first round against the bulls, i bet you would’nt say you’ve never seen hinrich play good d.

The games I watch from him I see guards drive right past him a lot so i don’t know, don’t watch many bulls games so I could be wrong. To me he is a Steve Blake with better defense. If his contract was better then I wouldn’t care.

He is a very good defender and he can guaqrd point guards and shooting guards. Bulls always nmatch him against best offensive player in other team’s backcourt. That has to tell you something.

Gatorheels, I didn’t really put much stock into uyour past pleas for McCants until now. Like you, I am a huge Tarheel fan, but thought he has been a huge disappointment in the pro game. I didn’t know why and kind of dismissed him. Bulls could use him and if we could get him at a good price, he could be a good pick-up.

I think Boozer could work well with the Bulls. I would hate to see Hinrich go, but again that depends who comes over. Pretty much anyone that comes over from Portland is going to be a good piece for the future. Once again it makes me wonder why the Bulls didn’t draft a guard with their 2nd first round pick. I guess we will see.

I know Utah has some money concerns and I really don’t think they want Boozer. I am actually hoping that this goes through because I want to see Kirilenko go back to playing more PF. I promise he will be a beast when he does and he will probably go back to blocking between 2-3 shots a game for the year and pulling down a lot more rebounds, especially if they ever decide to pick up the pace.

I like Hinrich for Portland. I’d rather take him to add to my core group. He plays hard defense which his coach is going to love and he should be a nice upgrade to Blake. Besides, he is probably the best option that is available for them at this point.

Good trade for all from what I am hearing so far.

If the Bulls trade Hinrich & Tyrus for Boozer…this would put Chicago roughly $20 million under the cap next season. Plus the Bulls will still have Rose, Deng, Salmons, Gibson, Johnson & Noah under contract. I am thinking Chicago is on the rise bigtime.

Idk why Utah would want Thomas. Sloan would hate putting up with his immature bull. He is a no nonsense guy and Thomas is about the opposite. Maybe Sloan can make him have a lot of discipline and he can develop into a good player.

The thing is Tyrus becomes a free agent (restricted) after this year anyways so Utah could just let him go after the season if things didn’t work out.

Ok that makes sense. I wouldn’t trade Rudy if I didn’t have to, but realistically he plays the same position as Roy so maybe he is expendable in Portlands eyes.

As far as Hinrich and his defense goes, he is an excellent defender. The only problem is that he has had to spend a lot of time guarding much bigger shooting guards because Gordon was not only small but a horrible defender. Sure Hinrich gets scored on. I would say that if every night you take on an All Star guard that every once in awhile during an 82 game season you will occasional get lit up. It happens to everyone.

I also mentioned last week that Hinrich has been telling friends and family that he is going to be in Portland next season. That’s why this trade seems so believable to me. I am sure that John Paxson told Hinrich that he would try to give him an opportunity to start somewhere if it would help the Bulls as well. Paxson (I know that it’s Gar Forman now, but Paxson is really attached to Hinrich as it was his first player drafted or signed) is a pretty stand up guy and wants to take care of guys he gives his word to. Hinrich signed a long-term deal to be a starter. The Bulls then got lucky and drafted Rose. Hinrich has the ability to start in the NBA so it would suck for him to spend a good portion of his “prime” as a back-up when it has nothing to do with his skills tailing off. Does that make sense?

BLAZERFAN, DID YOU SAY HINRICH IS STEVE BLAKE WITH BETTER DEFENSE????!!!!!!!! Bluahhhhhhhahahh

    Per 36 minutes…
    Hinrich career – 15points, 6.5 assists,
    Blake career – 10.5 points, 6 assists

And not JUST better defense. Hinrich is an all NBA caliber defender.
Remember when KU demolished Marquete in the 4th largest final four blowout, Hinrich was on Wade
He is one of the most versatile defenders for his position, being able to exceptionally guard points and shooting guards

You should be THRILLED by this upgrade. Plus, if your trading outlaw, you can start playing Bayless as that spark off the bench.

His contract really isn’t that bad. Plus it decreases every year. It’s just a lot of money to play for a backup. The guy is a quality starter. I think he fits in great with what Portland has and he will be worth every penny for the rest of the contract. He actually fits a need, they just probably need another rebounding/physical big man. If Oden develops they will end up with a really good defender at every position except for PF. He gets in a lot of foul trouble only because at times he was playing against a guy 3-4 inches taller than him every night when he was with the Bulls instead of playing against his own position. If you have ever played, it is really hard to play a different guy than the guy that is guarding you because it tends to lead to some occasional defensive problems in transition. Blake is nice to have, but only as a backup or occasional spot starter.

    According to ESPN INSIDER:

Carlos Boozer | Jazz | Interested: Pistons? Bulls? Trail Blazers? Jazz?
ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard updated the NBA’s story of the day on the Noon edition of Sportscenter by stating the proposed three-way trade between the Utah Jazz, Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls centered around Carlos Boozer is dead. At least in it’s current incarnation.
Broussard quoted Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard as saying bluntly that it’s “not going to happen,” despite his team’s strong desire to bring in G Kirk Hinrich from Chicago.

Speculation is that the Jazz will continue to try and deal Boozer in order to free up the cap space to retain Paul Millsap. Broussard also suggested on possible match could be with Detroit, with Richard Hamilton entering the mix.

I think getting Boozer could help the Bulls, but his history of injury scares me. I really hope somehow the Bulls can get Bosh, They like him better and he is 2 years younger. Thomas and what else?????

My goodness, how could any team consider taking Tim instead of Tyrus. If this were to happen and I don’t think it wiil, Bulls will have really pulled one off. That’s really a win-win. Keep young potential star and get a year out of Boozer. Team would see if Thomas evelves into star and could offer Boozer money to stay or dump him and offer Bosh/Wade money. I wish that could happen. I could also live with getting Bayless!
