Sacramento has decided that Cousins, and others, will rest against Portland.

With the Spurs and their old players and deep playoff runs it makes sense.  Does anyone have any idea why the Kings want to rest players?

Cousins gets a rest when he gets ejected from games, more rest when he is suspended, there is always plenty of rest as he never gets his team to the playoffs, isn’t this illogical?

It is such a long flight, Sacramento to Portland, is that what the Kings think?  J Okafor could drive there in 20 minutes.

Losing teams are supposed to be underdogs that fans will like, but the Kings are just a losing team that is despised by most fans now.  Cousins takes so many plays off, rests on defense, misses games for disciplinary reasons, has a longer offseason than any other player, and now he needs a rest.

Those who run the NBA, and plenty of their teams, really don’t care about the game or the fans that pay for it.

Using the term "rest" for Cousins is likely just a smokescreen for other intentions.

In order of liklihood, these are the 4 situations I considered to be the true intentions.

    1) DNP – Disciplinary Reasons

    2) DNP – Prevent injury to restore trade value

    3) DNP – Cousins dummy-spit or fake injury and just decided he doesn’t want to play.

    4) DNP – Actually needs a rest.

In my opinion, the NBA needs to step in and boot the Kings out of Sacramento. They’ve had enough chances, and there’s more suitable locations for a franchise to be based. If the NBA is guilty of dropping the ball on anything, it’s allowing so much investment in a new Arena for a dead-end franchise going nowhere.

It is their owner, Vivek is terrible. He is making the maloofs look like the best owners in sports. The NBA needs to protect its product, having a terrible owner who doesn’t really bring anything to the business side of things just hurts the league. I feel bad for the sacramento fans, they deserve at least a decent owner who won’t run things into the ground. I don’t know why players still sign there, outside of Rondo all the kings do is hurt players earning potential and throw their players under the bus.

You have to wonder if the Kings are packing things in for the season.  They’re actually not that far away from the #11 pick and that would mean they lose it to the Bulls.

This team is clearly rebuilding after the season, having a first round pick would certainly help that process.

don’t really want to be sarcastic but we already saw how they used their picks before.

Jimmer, Robinson or Stauskas really lifted them out of the lottery. This team needs way more than first round picks.

Well I can’t argue how badly they’ve selected.  But objectively, when rebuilding it’s better to have your pick than to not have it.

Probably because he’s had a sore knee and he said recently he’s been playing with tendonitis in his feet.  This team isn’t making the playoffs so why wear him down?  After the season he’s supposed to get PRP therapy in his feet to help the healing.

“I’ve been playing with tendinitis in my feet all season,” Cousins told a small gathering of reporters. “That’s why you see me walking up and down funny."

The Kings have been a poorly run franchise since, well forever, their run with Webber, Divac and Bibby was one hell of a ride IMO, they are now said to want George Karl to resign or retire, when are they going to get out their funk?

They’ve had high lottery picks and lucky breaks in the draft (Cousins at 5!)

They’ve also got 2 Fringe All Star players in Rondo and Gay, so why cant they get into the Playoffs?

I dont think they should be dissolved or anything like that, with moving to a new arena they could become more attractive to free agents, land a player to pair up with Boogie?

Either way, Im interested to see what they do going forward, the 76ers have the right to swap picks in the future and if Karl is bounced out and Boogie traded I can see them bottom out, Rondo might be gone and Gay should be on way out soon too…

I see this as a series of issues that are the Kings…

One: Vivek is just an awful owner. Vlade is not good at his job. Karl lost the locker room a long time ago -mainly because of management. Pure dysfunction from the top down! So, why not give guys that can’t win 30 games rest?

Two: Prevent Cousins from getting injured. He has to be moved in the offseason, so no sense in risking injury to the doughboy. I can’t deny his talent, but wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole. Even Pop would have a hard time making him worth the hassle.

Three: Prevent Cousins from decreasing his trade value, because almost every time he steps on the court he seems to raise another red flag these days.

Four: Give PT to Cauley-Stein to see if he has a future as a C or PF and if he is a starter or reserve. Et cetera… Basically, giving in to that stated below.

and Five (most likely): TANK JOB!

This franchise is amazingly screwed up. I’m sure Silver has to be shaking his head that his predecessor blocked the Kings move to Seattle with the Henson group. The only fix I see for this organization is a new owner, new management, and a new roster. Too much dysfunction to keep anyone – they are likely tainted at this point. Start anew.

Lets keep it on subject, a lot of times these anti-Kings threads veer off topic. Seattle is an offensive thing for Kings fans in Sacramento to hear, who fought to keep the team.

If you don’t like ownership/management its another issue

As for the topic, the Kings are out of the playoffs and have a top 10 protected pick. It’s the reality of the league. I don’t like it, but its the norm

I heard Sacramento is a great city to live in…..but this is a post about basketball, and…

To put it in biological terms….Sacramento is a parasite feeding on the good work of 29 host organisms. They’ve created a basketball wasteland who’s only purpose is to seemingly ruin the careers of young talented players. When Rajon Rondo is your franchise’s shining light….you know things are bad.

It’s a situation thats beyond repair.

Just because the Kings fans are offended by the mere mention of Seattle, doesn’t mean the topic is off limits to talk about to everyone else. The reason they’re sensative is probably because they’re aware just how much they stink.

I feel sorry for the small number of sacramento fans, but spare a thought for the 7.2billion inhabitants of this planet who simply want to live in a world with decent, competitive basketball.

What he is saying does make sense, it’s a well known fact that it’s a city’s fault when you have a terrible sports team. I don’t know why Sacramento allows the Kings to make stupid choices and ruin amazing players like Jimmer and Thomas Robinson, it’s almost like the city doesn’t realize that they are the ones who are in charge of all important decisions.

     How dull are you?

What does the state of the team have to do with the geographical location?

And why do you even care about the state of the Kings either way as a fan of another team except to join in the mindless harassment?

Why is every one of your posts in this thread of an insulting nature?

For someone with the username of "Lovebug", I’m not feeling much love at all.

My team has to play the Kings at some stage….and they’re currently rolling out a starting 5 of:

      • Seth Curry
      • Kostas Koufas
      • Omri Caspi
      • Quincy Acie
      • Darren Collison

I didn’t pay good money for my NBA League pass to watch that junk. Year in-Year out the Kings serve up substandard basketball, and I’ve had enough. They tried the "New Owner" thing…and things didn’t get any better. Now they’re trying the new stadium thing….and I’ll be amazed if they make the playoffs before 2025.

They’ve run out of chances. The NBA should buy-out the franchise, and move it to a proper basketball community.

Listen, I’m not going to waste any more time with you

The Kings didn’t move because they have a loyal fanbase that didn’t deserve to lose their team. It speaks to your character to not understand or empathize with it

Basketball decisions have nothing to do with the city itself, good ownership/bad ownership, good management/bad management can exist in Hawaii or Pluto

The city proper or fanbase don’t make basketball decisions

If you have a problem with Kings ownership or management you can easily wish for new ownership/management in the city where the team belongs

Hype Machine you need to chill with this "move the Kings out of Sacramento" thing. There’s people who eat, sleep and breathe Sacramento Kings Basketball and who have been invested in the team their whole lives despite their terrible performance as of late. Management has been terrible and the talent has been lackadaisical but asking to give a franchise the death sentence is just inhumane in a sense.

With that being said they are trying. They really did try to put it all together but with Karl and the current personnel not building chemistry along with bad roster alignment the Kings were not relevant this year. They could compete with any team though and we’re not really a team that I was excited about having my Raptors face when looking at the schedule.

It may not show but Cousins took steps as far as his maturity goes this year. The guy is laying it all on the line every night and really battling out there who cares if his lottery bound team has him rest. The tram cannot afford to pass the Knicks, Bucks or Nuggets in the lotto and lose the pick. The Knicks have no pick because of the Bargnani trade and the Nuggets have the right to swap with the Raptors so those two teams will be trying to win games to end the season. The Kings can avoid losing a lottery pick by resting it’s stars like every other lottery team is doing.

Unless Demarcus Cousins is on your fantasy team or you are attending the Trailblazers game and unable to get a refund you should not care if he rests. Also if the Kings moved that would be an NBA tragedy.

The Kings are perhaps trying to boost their lottery chances by sitting players, they are 7 wins off  8th seed so are unlikely to make that spot. Why not sit Cousins, Gay and co if they increase their chances of landing Ingram, Simmons, Hield etc.

There seems to be an increasing amount of teams shutting down players, Philly have done it for about 3 seasons now!

Seriously though teams do protect their investments down the stretch trying to increase lottery chances or to save players for the play offs so teams still chasing 7th/8th seedings could have a complete lottery of what sort of line ups they face from now until mid April.

I Dont know the relationship between the Kings’ front office and the front office of the Trailblazers but I do know sitting players did Portland a favor. Portland is In a very tight battle for the final playoff spots in the west and everything counts. I don’t know if it was intentionally done but it was a a favor nonetheless.

With Memphis’ injuries and hard schedule Portland could conceivably move into 5th place in the west

I think the answer to this is simple, the kings have a top 8 protected pick they owe the bulls. So they are obviously trying to keep it. I think it’s that simple.
