EspressoParticipantWho do you take going forward if you were to start a team?

Chilbert arenasParticipantLillard, he’s got his head on straight and a chip on his shoulder, Hardens got chips in his mouth and drink in his cup

llperezlillard
harden looks like he purposefully tries to be aloof. Like he takes pride in not working hard, showing emotion or breaking a sweat.

NBAjunkie81Participant& twice on Sunday or whatever that saying is……. Harden has to get to the Free Throw line 10X per game to get his points.,….. the whole team just stands around watching him……. & he’s got to be even More Ball dominant in the Post Season b/c the Refs swallow their whistles……..

skyrimownsalland if it wasnt for the refs swallowing the whistles on gsw moving screens, the rockets could have actually stole one of those games in oracle

NBAjunkie81Participantper game…. Not even Michael Jordan could do it when he Avg 10+ FTA’s / Game for 2 years in 86 & 87……. Allen Iverson same thing….. Basketball is a team game that depends on Ball Movement & Movement W/O the Ball…. when One guys dominates the Ball….. Everyone on his team Stops moving at Both ends…….
I’m not saying Harden is not a great player….. The question was ……. "Starting a Team who is your Choice?"……… I’m guessing a Tilte would be the goal….. W/ Harden as your #1 option on Offense you are Never winning a Ring…… That’s not my Opinion….. That’s what NBA history shows…..

Hype MachineHardens unpopular…and if theres one thing I’ve learned about this forum, its that people correlate skill with like-ability and hugely over-rate recency.
Ask this question 6 mths ago and you’d be laughed at. Are we forgetting everything these guys have done in the past 5 years?
Harden has won more, put up better numbers, won more awards, for longer. How is it close if you take popularity and recency bias out of it? Harden was runner up MVP last season. Lillards best season is his most recent…and Harden has played several better seasons than Lillards best season.
My Junkie friend above for example…seemingly criticised Harden cos he scores more points at the FT line. No-one likes watching the Rockets style of play….but FTs are the most efficient way to score. A more popular player like Durant would be commended for getting to the line so much. People will forever blame referees for being tricked into Harden fouls. No….hes just incredibly hard to defend.
Harden has a reputation on Defense…but Lillard is equally bad, if not worse in my opinion. But he gets no heat for it.
And people say Harden doesnt play with Passion or Fire or Whatever…But hes attacking the lane harder than anyone. Dude has won a lot of playoff games.
I saw Damien Lillard do an absolutely dirty play against the Warriors. If that was an unpopular player, we’d be irate. Cos it was Lillard (flavour of the month), a total double standard exists and no-one acknowledged the disgustingly dirty play ever happened.
Gladly start a team with Lillard if you want to factor in popularity…but ability wise or body of work and its no contest. Hardens way, way ahead every season aside from the one which is freshest in peoples memories.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantIf we’re starting a team today shouldn’t we be judging them of their current skill set??? If we judged players based on how good they were in years past then Amare Stoudamire wouldn’t be getting waived every second week

nath09ParticipantI’d have answered Lillard 5 or 12 months ago because if turns out Lillard isn’t a a franchise player that’s going to get you the ring on his back he will realise and accommodate if you bring in a supersar. Harden is 3 parts superstar to 7 parts ego who I don’t think you can rely on to be a secondary piece.
Just look at what Lillard does with his team compare to what Harden does with his team which includes a player regarded as by far the best 5 in the league less than two years ago. Give me Lillard’s stats and charector over Harden’s stats and ego every day of the week.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThose choice as I see it is if you want 40-50 wins now you take Harden… however if I are trying to build a team to compete with San Antonio or Golden State I would rather have Lillard as a piece.
I can’t envision Harden ever giving up the ball and play a more team oriented game that is needed if you want to compete at the top of the Western Conference. Lillard cranks up a ton of shots but I see him as a player more likely to conform to a ball sharing team.

skyrimownsallHarden has never even had a decent coach in the NBA, and dont say Mchale… his offense would consist of give Harden the ball let him read and react
Harden’s talent is right up there with Curry… Lillard is just another shoot first pg who plays no defense
ESPN got yall minds flipped on Harden, he i a top 5 player on his best day
