I know it makes sense for him to declare because he is pretty much a guaranteed lottery pick, but what are the odds he comes back for another season at Cal?

Judging from his performance today and throughout the year, there are still a lot of holes in his game. Cal really needed a huge game from brown today and he was just awful. Hes just not an effective player in the half court right now. He doesn’t have a consistent jump shot and gets to out of control on his drives to the basket causing him to commit charges. Great athlete and natural talent but still needs a lot of work in his overall feel for the game. I’m pretty much always in favor of guys who are going to lottery picks declaring because you never know if that opportunity will be there again. However, I think brown could struggle for awhile in the pros and might not necessarily be an impact player for awhile.

I think he that type of player who should adjust much better in NBA’s open court and will be a very good player and also one of those players who should kill it in workouts.

So personally, don’t see him coming back.

Physically there’s a lot to like about him but he struggles with turnovers(7 today) and he needs to improve his shooting.  His 5th foul was a bad one considering how much Cal needed him today with Wallace and Bird out.  He turned the ball over and instead of getting back on defense he reached to try steal the ball back.

I’ve watched him all year and I have to say that his low bball IQ is really disconcerting.  His feel for the game is awful.  If he’s not lowering his head and barrelling into the defense, he really is clueless about what to do. He’s not a phyical project at all, but he’s a major mental project.  Quite frankly, he needs to learn how to play basketball.  His game is about as nuanced as a brick to the face.  Whoever takes him shouldn’t expect or count on him for much for a few years.

He is a Jeff Green/Earl Clark type to me. Strong but he does not have the fire in him. He looks lazy and uninterested. He will go top 10, but he gotta want it..

Him "wanting it" isn’t the issue IMO.  You wouldn’t be able to tell by watching him today bc he basically sht the bed in every way imaginable, but he tries.  To me the bigger issue with him is not knowing how to pick his spots and knowing how to assert himself.  He tries to make something out of nothing even when the situation doesn’t call for it.  His game is a series of forces.  He forces bc he wants it, but often times he ends up making bonehead mistakes, careless handling in traffic or taking bad shots.  I can’t stress enough how badly he needs to improve his recognition.

I think he should declare but you never know his competitiveness. I’m saying because this year he’s a top 10 pick, and if he wants to be top 10 next year he’s gonna have to really put in the work…but Marcus Smart didn’t declare in a historically weak draft of ’13 and still went 6th next year in a class with Wiggins, Randle, Gordon, Parker, Embiid, Saric, Clarkson and many more great players…I think he declares and dominates workouts, solidifying his top 10 status.

Looks a lot like Stanley Johnson, but plays a lit more out of control

In the words of sir Charles – he’s terrible…terrible terrible.  Only Simmons and Ingram would have been picked in last years Top 10….and Simmons didn’t even make the tourney

right now, based on both risk and reward – i’d take buddy hield over brown, hands down. worst case you’ve got a 3 and D guy, best case you’ve got a 2-way all-star. I can’t see Brown getting to that level. He just doesn’t seem to understand the game.

I think his game will end up like the original Ron Artest. Strong enough and Quick enough to guard any position and make shots with sheer physicality that others couldn’t.

    Poor basketball IQ.

Yeah Browns definitely more explosive. Artest had that low centre of gravity too that made him hard to move…kinda like a wombat. Hard to find an exact replica of a player tho. Even Marcus and Markieff Morris have different games.

I think Brown will have Lebron level raw strength & athleticism in a couple of years. Of course way less fluid and coordinated, less body control and less ability to translate athleticism into sound basketball plays. But from a physical standpoint hes on that level.

If hes surrounded by shooters, I think hes a mismatch if going 1 on 1 to the basket.

Watch Jerami Grant during a 76er game !  It’s a biproduct of not owning a jump shot so teams play off you and are ready for you to drive – usually out of control.  Good news is they are both young and have time to work on it.  It’s the reason Browns numbers have been dropping – teams know to sag off him

If he’s fairly likely to be a top 5 pick then the logic is he declares. There have been guys high on mocks in the last decade or so who returned to college to further develop such as Joakim Noah and Roy Hibbert. Both went lower the next year than they may have done but it perhaps helped them long term. Noah was from a rich family so didn’t need to declare to get a pro salary such as like Kwarme Brown apparently needed to.

Guys like Blake Griffin returned for his soph year and turned from a later top 10 pick into a clear number 1.

I have no real idea if Jaylen needs to go pro financially but to turn down a top 5 rookie deal is always hard but he needs to seek advice and ask himself what will make me a better player long term and give me the best platform to have a good NBA career.

Personally I think he will declare.

It’s a weaker draft than next year, though.

IMO, you’re a guaranteed first round and you should very strongly considering entering the draft. If you’re a lottery then leave. Doesn’t make sense risking injury or over exposure to me. There’s cases where it works out, but again why risk it?

The gain is so little compared to what you could possibly lose.
