I just realized that the Lakers 2017 1st round draft pick will be the 76ers if the Lakers get a top 3 pick in the weak 2016 draft and if the Lakers do not get a top 3 pick the Magic get that pick. A lot of people are down on the 76ers and Sam Hinke, but the 76ers can get away with robbery if they can get the Lakers 2017 1st round draft pick w/ the likes of Harry Giles, Dennis Smith, Josh Jackson, Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, and more highly touted prospects in that draft. The 76ers can have two of them, I don’t believe the Lakers will be any good in the year of 2017.

No. The pick owed to the 76ers is top 3 protected in 2016 (this year), top 3 protected in 2017 (next year) and not protected in 2018. The Lakers give another pick, this one going to the Magic, 2 years after they give up the 76ers a pick. HOWEVER, if the Lakers keep their pick in 2016 and 2017, the Magic pick becomes two 2nd rounders instead of a 1st rounder.

So, if the Lakers are as bad as you think next year, the Lakers and not the 76ers will be picking from next year’s crop. If their fans can handle losing one more year, tanking one last time allow them to defer losing one pick for another year and allow them to completely keep another. That’s a lot of reason to tank. Maybe next year they can draft their center. Thon Maker?

Also, the Lakers first-round pick going to the Magic is top-5 protected in 2018 and unprotected in 2019 if the first-round pick to the 76ers in conveyed by 2017.

So if you’re a Magic fan, you should hope for that pick going to the 76ers goes through for this 2016 NBA Draft because by the summer of 2018, I think the Lakers will have attracted superstar free agents by that point, especially with L.A. natives in Harden and George available as unrestricted free agents, as well as Cousins, if he’s not already been traded to another good situation or by some miracle, God rewards the Kings with a superstar draft prospect who can contribute right away enough for him to stay. So to me, the 2017-18 NBA season is the last realistic year the Lakers will be a lottery team, so the Magic can at least get the pick for that season in the 2018 NBA Draft.

No, the pick is top 3 protected this year as well as top 3 protected next year.  If the Lakers keep their pick this year, and keep their pick next year then the pick turns into a 2017 2nd rounder in 2017 and a 2nd rounder in 2018.  If the Lakers forfeit their pick this year, than they keep their pick next year due to the Stepian Rule.

Yes the 2nd rounders go to the Magic.  I completely left them out of the entire post for some reason but that is who I was thinking inside my mines.

I don’t know how it works from the Magic perspective, but the Lakers pick going to the Sixers is top 3 protected this year and next, and then unprotected in 2018.

There is no way that that pick ever turns into 2nd rounders for the Sixers.

If the Lakers give the Sixers their 2017 pick then the Magic can’t get the 2018 one because you can’t trade two picks in a row.

As a Sixer fan I know pretty damn well what the situation is with that Lakers pick since it is one of our best assets.

It becomes unprotected in 2018, but man it would be awesome if it was unprotected in 2017 instead of top 3 protected because the Lakers have a better than 50-50 chance of keeping the pick this year, and they are going to be horrible again next year.

If it was unprotected next year every Sixer fan in the country would be praying for the Lakers to keep it this year.

Why do so many users on here say each season that next years draft will be strong and better, basing it from overhyped high school kids with a fancy mixtape ?

“Next years draft will be better because we have top high school prospects who will go highly drafted and be potential all-stars – Perry Jones, Terrence Jones, Harrison Barnes, Austin Rivers, Shabazz, McAdoo, nerlens Noel, Isiah Austin, Harrison twins, Cliff Alexander, Josh Selby, Skal etc” – we see these posts all time. Alot of overhyped highschoolers don’t live up to the lofty expectations….

Give it a few months and we will see Jackson, Giles, Tatum threads going to the Sixers/Lakers etc to make them contenders…

This years draft is good – Simmons, Brown, Ingram, Dunn, Murray, Hield could all potentially be all star calibre players. Internationals Bender, Korkmaz, Luwawu could be decent players. Poeltl, Rabb, Sabonis, Allen, Deytona Davis, Zimmerman, Valentine could be solid also

I couldn’t agree more, and I must admit I fall victim to the system each year in believing that the incoming freshman are ahead of last years class. That is mainly due to god fact I’m a REAL sixers fan, and want whoever we potentially get to be a generational talent! Lol

of the Lakers & the Kings finishing #1 & #2 in the 2018 NBA Draft Lottery……. & if the Lakers fail to fall out of the top 3 in both 2016 & 2017….. then not only do the Lakers owe an unprotected 2018 pick to Phila but so does Sacramento……. Both those picks go to Phila No matter where they land in 2018….. I know it’s a long shot….. but the Basketball Gods have a funny sense of Karma…….

Just look up how the Lakers acquired Magic Johnson in 1980 & James Worthy in 1982……. Both #1 overall picks that were traded several years earlier for DOn Turner & Gail Goodroch (compensation for a FA signing)……. Hinkie is Not reinventing the Wheel………

You never know what can happen in the Drafts….. So nothing is assured……. but if Embiid is healthy & Saric arrives (I know these are Big "Ifs"…)……. Phila still has a Bunch of really high 1st round picks over the next few Drafts……. Phila owns their own picks in 2016, 2017 & 2018……. but OKC, Miami, Denver, Sacramento & L.A. Each owe the Sixers a 1st round pick over those next 3 Drafts……. In addition, Sacramento Also owes Phila Swap rights……. Phila could end up W/ Nothing from all these Lottery Picks…… But they’ve put themselves in a position to keep taking shots……

The 76ers Front Office is playing the Long Game, making moves to set up their franchise for a Decade of serious contention (This makes people’s brains explode, the thought Philadelphia could actually come out of this with a few All Stars in the next few years)

I as a life long 76ers fan have been through the ups and downs(I was born the year the last time they actually won a ring and Im positive they’ll win another before I die(Fingers Crossed ya’ll)

I was there for all the bad years before and After Barkely/Iverson, I was there for Iggy/Holiday/Thad/Turner

I will gladly take what Sam Hinkie is trying to do, to absolutely put every once of energy into landing multiple Top 5 Picks plus adding other 1st round Picks by making trades with Cap Straped teams

We have landed a DPOY type F/C in Nerlens Noel via Trade, we also got a 6th Man type Euro Bigman in Saric in that same deal, ask New Orleans fans if they’d make that Trade again

We landed a super skilled C in Okafor, one who was touted as the Best Bigman prospect since Tim Duncan before he got passed on by Los Angeles and taken by Sam Hinkie

We have another potential dominant C in Joel Embiid, who we had to take in order to A) Secure our pick owed to another team and B) we lost out on Wiggins and Parker anyway, Joel was the biggest gamble to take, lets see if he pays off

Now we get to business at hand

We are definitely getting a Top 4 pick this year, and there is an outside chance we land a top 4 pick via LA, we literally only need one Team outside the Top 3 to win the Lottery to set the forum on fire, Imagine if a Denver or Brooklyn/Boston land the top pick and Philadelphia and Phoenix round out the Top 3 with the Lakers looking stunned at the Lottery, Insanity would ensue as Philly lands their top 4 pick

Either way Hinkie is locked into drafting BPA longterm with our Pick and whatever happens will happen on draft night, we still own Miami and OKC 1st Round picks(perfect for adding a veteran and a high risk high reward pick laye in the 1st)

After the smoke settles we’ll see who goes where in Free Agency and address the 2017 Draft accordingly, we still own our Pick(another High End Pick) plus potentially LA and Denver’s pick, rights to swap draft picks with Sacramento..,I will take all those possibilities as a fan..,

I enjoy watching the Rebuild and revelling in the vitriol from the Internet trolls and institutionalized Media Talking heads…

Okafor looked great until he tears a meniscus, Nerlens continues to impress me as a defender and if he ever learns how to shoot a 15 footerhee can be an All Star

Saric looks as solid a prospect as they come and me and the rest of the basketball world drools over the thought of Embiid returning 100%

Add a Top 5 pick and trade for a Buddy Hield in the Lottery using Miami and OKC picks ala the McDermott deal on draft night…

We’ll see what happens after all the dust settles

The Kings pick is top 10 protected in 2018, and unprotected in 2019.

If the Kings this year finish in the top 10(as they are currently projected to do) then they will keep this year’s pick. Otherwise they have to send it to the Bulls.

If that happens, then the Sixers automatically get the pick unprotected in 2019, so Sixer fans are really rooting for the Kings to keep their pick this year.

The swaps have nothing to do with the actual pick owed. They represent ping pong balls basically because whatever chance that the Kings have for the first pick can just be added on to the Sixers chances.

That trade was the most one sided deal in the league since the Ainge Billy King debacle.

Don’t forget that the Sixers gave up nothing other than salary that they needed to pay anyway since they were below the salary floor.

A pure stroke of Sam Hinkie genius.

I howled when the Kings made that trade, but was told again & again it wouldn’t matter. Abandoning any chance to get the top pick just to free up cap space? For Kosta Koufas and Marco Bellinelli…a year before the salary cap explodes and most of those contracts they traded away would’ve come off the books? Stupid, stupid, stupid.
