ChrispyParticipantHey guys! The long timers on this forum may remember that several years ago I posted about taking a 3 month trip. That was, again, several years ago. I ended up living (and loving) in Guatemala. Strangely, due in part to the terrain where I live, basketball has become something of a passion here for locals. While the poverty, lack of nutrition, and obvious lack of training (not to mention height) hinders them, the locals where I live have a vibrant basketball league. I kind of play in it, but because of fairness I don’t play myself most games. The New York Times last month published a great article on my city and our league. Please enjoy and hit me with any feedback! (travellers always welcome at my place!!!). -Chris New York Time article http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/12/sports/basketball/guatemalan-athletes-are-dribbling-and-not-only-with-their-feet.html?_r=0

Aran SmithKeymasterReally appreciate you posting this. I’ve been to Lake Atitlan, and the place is spectacular (highly recommend it) and remember noticing some hoops around which was very surprising. I’m familiar with the Latin American tendency to push girls away from soccer. Very cool how the girls, and people there have really taken to hoops. Team sports are so valuable for life lessons, socially and the community, and what better sport than basketball! Got some chills reading this. Thanks again!

ChrispyParticipantGuatemala is the answer! And BTW, we do have quite a few folks around these parts who did come here because of warrants. A few shady people here!

Aran SmithKeymasterYes. McDunkin was last seen in Lake Atitlan crayfishing. He’s also joined an all girl basketball league.
