valentineI know this isn’t actual, but nearly two weeks ago the Magic claimed and immediately waived Chris Copeland. With the move they meet the minimum salary requirement (with his 1.38 M cap hold if I know correctly). They had and they have a free roster spot. That’s clear.
But can somebody help me out? Why that’s make any sense? With other possibilities suddenly came to my mind:
-Sign a random D-Leauger: /they had Appling earlier/ why not to sign somebody, just a shot in the dark, Sim Bhullar or Erick Green or anybody for that 1.38 M (owing him only the portion for the remainder of the season) and keep him for ten day to try him out (like a 10-day contract), the team shouldn’t play him in any game, just evaluate him in training sessions. If they found out Bhullar (just an example) sucks or Green is a locker room cancer or anything like that, they can release him. And then? They are in the same situation, 1.38 M in dead salary. Any damage? Nothing. Gain? Maybe, 0.001%, ask the Heat about Whiteside.
-Sign somebody from overseas for 1.38 M or buy him out and sign him for the league minimum (like Houston). Hopefully the Magic have at least one scout overseas and that one scout may like at least one player they can lure, as there are players outside the NBA, wo can be more than just the 15th man on a roster. The outcome would be the same just like with the D-leaguer.
So what’s the argument for Copeland?
I’m also got sick reading the reactions about the Heat and Marcus Thornton and others were dissapointed Philly didn’t claimed Beno Udrih. Why should they do that? Helping a rival franchise improve? If you want to get rid of Udrih’s contract, call Philly before deadline (like Houston did with Joel Anthony). Now Miami has 13 players, injuries and his hands tied, meanwhile can watch Thornton and Briante Weber sign elsewhere.
Philly claimed Weems and at least they trying him out. Nor the Sixers nor the Magic are contenders, so they won’t hurt themselves with chemistry or anything other like that.0 - AuthorPosts
