Every year, the high school hype machine gets cranked up and high schoolers get annointed with the "One and Done" title.  Frequently this title is deserved and the players spend their semester or two in college before heading to NBA riches.

But, sometimes these predictions don’t turn out.  It doesn’t mean that the players aren’t good, or that they won’t eventually make it to the NBA, it just means that they didn’t live up to the hype.  So far this season here are my nomiantions for OAD players who have "disappointed".

    1.  Malik Newman  –  Back in August, this site had Newman ranked as the #12 pick.  He probably would have been better off playing for a powerhouse where he his shortcomings wouldn’t have been exposed, and been part of a winning culture.  He is now projected as a mid 2nd round pick.

    2.  Cheick Diallo –  Back in August, this site had Diallo ranked as the #11 pick.  He has not developed at Kansas as expected, and is looked at now as more of an unskilled "energy" guy with little in his offensive arsenal.  Now projected as an early second round pick.

    3.  Isaiah Briscoe – Back in August he was late 1st round, and now he is mid-2nd round.  Great defensively, and can take care of the ball, but is not a shooter.  Has had great difficulty making his free throws, though he is getting better.

Any thoughts about these guys, or others?  I think that all three shouudl stay in school and keep getting better because I think all three are potentially future NBA players, but I suspect all 3 are going to come out.

Was Skal too easy to nominate ?

Bacon was well hyped early season, I wouldn’t take him in the first round.

Not that they slid, but I really hope Ivan Rabb and Deytona Davis come back to work on their game

Yeah, I left Skal off because he has been discussed ad nauseum as far as how he has not lived up to his preseason draft rank.  Also, I think that Skal is different from these other guys because, although he has struggled mightily early on, he has put together a string of performances that is more in line with what everyone expected him to do.  Thus, although he did slide all season long, he is now ironically moving up the draft boards.  If he continues his strong play, Kentucky is a contender in the tourney, and he will be back in the conversation for top 5 pick.

Zimmerman, I think could also be added to the list but he has had some injuries so he is probably right where he was expected to be.  Raab has developed over the season, and I think he is about where everyone thought he would be.

As overwhelmed and lost as skal has appeared to be at times this season, he has looked better lately, especially on offense. If he has a reasonably strong showing to close out the season, I think he declares and I think there’s a good chance a team will take a chance on him in the lottery.

I don’t see Stephen Zimmerman as a lottery pick if he declares this year, even though this site still has him projected as one. More like mid to late first round in my estimation.

I think that Rabb, Zimmermann e Deyonta really need another year, they need to be stronger and skilled, even if potential is there. I dont’ think it is good for them an year on an NBA bench. And also Newman, Skal, Diallo are in this situation.

Next years recruiting class is too deep for Skal to stay. Edrice Adebayo, Sascha Kelleya Jones and Wenyrn Gabriel combined with the fact that Lee, Willis and Humphries are returning. He’s better off going pro attaining a guaranteed contract and developing in the pros. His biggest need is strength anyways then once he acquires the strength he will need to get accustomed to his body.
