What do you guys think the all rookie teams will be this year? I think there’s two open spots with 3 clearly going to KAT, Porzingis and Okafor in the first team. Does Myles Turner get a nod for his great second half so far? Interested in seeing everyone else’s opinions in the first and second team.

Note: Are they considereing Julius Randle a rookie or is he considered a second year player because he played 1 game?

Should be in the list as well IF he keeps his current pace. And to answer your question, Julius Randle is considered a second year player regardless if how long he played previously.

Since the dawn of time, basketball has never been played with 3 frontcourt players and I’ll be damned if I’m going to make an exception for no good reason.

Sorry Mr Okafor, but your the Captain of my All-Rookie 2nd team

The teams don’t go according to position, there was one year I can’t quite remember right now but there was 4 front court players and 1 guard. I think it’s weird to do it like that but it makes sense I guess.

I agree that its weird but I disagree that it makes sense. If you’re the 3rd best frontcourt player you get squeezed out.

They wouldnt do it with the All NBA teams. They don’t do it with the All Star Teams.  You vote for 3 backcourt players and 2 frontcourt players.

What if the best 5 players were all PGs…would they all be included in the 1st team?

I honestly think they let it slide with rookies because theyre afraid of hurting their feelings. I seriously cant think of any other reason.

Wouldnt they have to make an exception for the rookie team though since in the All NBA teams and All Star Teams, you have the whole league to pick from. There are always going to be quality players from each position to pick from which means they can be picky and keep it more inline with a traditional lineup. But for All Rookie teams, if they stayed with the same kind of deal, you could have a year that has really weak guards, but because of the restrictions you end up having a guy that plays 8min and averages half a point on the All Rookie first team just because he’s the best rookie pg from a weak draft.

The rookie team being simply the best rookies regardless of position is the best way to go since the have a smaller group of players to pick from and the best deserve to be recoignised as the best. The other teams can be more strict postionwise because of the larger number of players to chose from.

Am I missing something, or hasn’t it always been 2 backcourt and 3 frontcourt (traditionally 2 forwards and 1 center, with the backcourt being 2 guards)????

     2003 – first team Yao – C, Nene – C, Amare – PF, Gooden – PF, Caron – SF

    2006 – first team Bogut – C, Frye – PF, Charlie V – PF, Deron – PG, CP3 – PG

2008 – first team Horford – C, Scola, PF, Thornton – SF, Green – SF, Durant – SF

So the answer is yes it can happen..

As for allstar games and the three back court players and two frontcourt..

This year the east was 3 sfs and 2 guards.. Lebron, Melo, George, Wade and Lowry

I realize that the NBA will do it but I’m suggseting that they shouldn’t do it.

Nice shout out to Winslow there. His offensive game is lacking and hasn’t found the range from the NBA 3 point line yet. But he does get a lot of p/t with the Heat for his defense and rebounding.
