And by shocking I mean players wwho when you’re watching, you ask yourself , ‘did this guy really just do that?’

#1: Derrick Rose: Yes, prime MVP Rose is arguably the most shocking player I have ever seen in my entire lifetime . Everyplay play he made was just jaw dropping, he was taking those high arking, high-off-the glass layups waay before Curry. The way Rose could torque his body mid-air is something we had never seen before, have yet to see again, and will probably be a long time before someone with those specific physical and athletic attributes come around.

SN: I would like to take a second and sadly state that it is fair to say we will never see that D Rose back, forget about it. His injury plagued career will hunt me down the rest of my life, and I’m a Heat fan… what a waste of talent, wow! I feel sorry for Chicago fans, I really do.

#2: Curry: Possibly #1, and the reason for this thread. This guy is a VIDEO GAME! I just finished watching the highlights of Curry and Durant and could not be more pissed off I missed that game. Curry’s 3pt shooting makes Durant look like Josh Smith out there! (sarcasm… but not really). Curry’s last shot yesterday was possibly the most amazing regular season game winning shot I have ever seen. The shot was not a heave, it was a pull up jump shot that he took not because of issues concerning time left in the game, but because he thought he had a good look, ARE YOU SERIOUS? I am quoting someone from .net who said, "he is revolutionating the game", he really is.

#3 Lebron James: Think of the strength of a Mack truck, in a Ferrari chasis.

#4: Flash Wade: IMO the most aggresive player at splitting defenses of all times, as well as the best euro stpper ever, and the best at ‘putting the ball over defenders head while 2 stepping into layup’. This guy would unstoppably finesse his way to the rim between three people AT WILL. One of the clutches players ever who would constantly make a play to win games.

#4: Nowitzki: He reach a point where he was just absurd. Defenses and the entire world knew he was going to pull up buuut THERE WAS NOTHING YOU COULD DO ABOUT IT.

#5: Durant: I understand If you feel like he should be higher because he is 6’11 and rainbows threes like a guard, but he just doesnt wow me as much as the other guys as far a shocking factor.

when jason williams first entered the league for sacramento. Everybody was out at the courts trying to mimic him and talking about what he did the last game. He made the basic passes seem exciting. By the time he left to grizzlies he slowed down a lot and was trying to play smarter, but those first couple years were ridiculous.

Let’s start with the most shocking players since I followed the league; roughly 1990

    1) Jordam: Honestly he mad so many very good opposition players look below average it’s not funny. People walked off the court against MJ embarres. If LeBron is the King MJ is the Creator.

    2) Shaq:: Remember were talking the most shocking. Just a pile of absolute jaw dropping power. Smashed backboards, dunk after dunk and boat loads of intimidation. Watch his highlight reels and you will see the likes of Olajawon, Robinson and Ewing with Spalding imprinted on their forheads.

    3) Olajawonn: Reading Hakeem’s box scores was shocking let alone watching out manouver all that came before him. Just constantly amazed with his skill set.

    Current PlayersLebron:

Steph Curry: We are just watching something unbelievably special here the last two years. I cant throw socks in the washing basket from 4 feet as well as he shoots from 5 foot behind the arc. Not only that his team wins…alot. There are no words for what he’s doing to the league at the moment.

LeBron: I am not  the biggest LeBron fan but what he can do on a basketball court individually is just jaw dropping sometimes.

Dwayne Wade: I couldn’t decide who I wanted in here out of current playes so I am just putting in D-Wade simply for his dunk on Andeson Varejo a couple years back. I remember how awe struck I was when I saw it and still love watching it today.

    PS: Good post.

    Some different options:

    – vince carter: those few prime time years in Canada were absurd. Still remember the back and forth final series against iverson and the 6’ers (plus his dunk comp)

    – Tracy Mcgrady in Orlando. Obviously a massive "if only" hangs over t-Mac but during his run he was unguardable at times

    – Reggie Miller, obviously made clutch 3’s and big plays but I remember watching Reggie (disliked him too!) and everyone on the court knew he was going to try and get inside their heads but always found a way to do it and still outperform them (you know what I’m talking about John Starks!)

    – Amare Stoudemire in his first 2 seasons. I get Steve Nash made others look better than what they probably were but this guy came straight in without a heap of hype and just outworked and out jumped everyone, fearless! Shame about the injuries!

    – Linsanity in New York was also ridiculous!

    Barkley

6’4" or 6’5" and is the only guy of that build that I’ve ever seen run and jump like that. He was a human bowling ball who could get the rebound and finish inside right through 7footers.

Only maybe Vince Carter had more pure athleticism than ‘Nique.  His dunks were insane and he routinely worked in the post against double and triple teams.  There is a youtube video with him dunking on an entire team.  Should have won that dunk contest against Jordan.  If he had played for LA or NY he would have been huge but instead he did his work in the backwater called Atlanta before the NBA really blew up.

Watching Dr. J in the ’70’s for the ABA Nets. The guy was mind-blowing. Was a total original (though imitated a lot since).

Bird’s passing was out of this world also.

Seeing Magic at 6’9" bring the ball down the court (and then play center in the Finals when Kareem was hurt).

I had to give a shout out to the old-school players.

Anybody out there going to pull Russel and Wilt out of the past? I’m not that old.

I love your original list. It is sad because you are getting downvoted most likely because you put Rose #1.

MVP Rose was 1 on my list as well, but Curry is taking that spot this season.

People need to stop with their revisionist history for Rose’s MVP season. If you did not watch the games, dont comment on how good he once was based on what you have seen of him since.

This is why I want to cry inside, Rose won the MVP not in his prime…but when he should have been a SENIOR IN COLLEGE. Rose absolutely whether you liked him or not had potential to be one of if not the greatest point guard ever. Not the most elite as a passer but think Iverson in a 6’3 Lebron’s body, aka unstoppable.

I would sell my soul to wipe Derrick Rose’s injury history away to witness a true prime D Rose vs Steph Curry today. What a show that would have been.

    My 2004-2016 Most Shocking:

1.Curry- "No video game is realistic"

    2. MVP Rose- "If Iverson and Lebron had a baby"

    3. Kobe- Specifically his season streak of putting up over 50 so many times in a short span.

    4. Lebron-"Freight Train"

    5. Westbrook- "Energizer bunny on steroids"

    honorable mention:

Prime KG, Prime Gilbert Arenas, VC, Flash Wade, young Stoudamire and TMAC.  Also shout out to Nashes passing

    Since I’m an old-timer….

Kareem – his sky hook is the most unstoppable shot in basketball history (excluding a Shaq dunk as I wouldn’t want to be in the middle of that).

Calvin Murphy – I was always amazed at that guy.  Quicker than grease through a goose.  Could literally dribble two balls down court and out race practically any other player who was just running.  At 5’9" (probaly generously), he was a really good, not great player and was lights out at the line.

Nate Archibald before injuries took their toll.  What a player.  Only one ever to lead the league in scoring and assists in the same season.

Does Manute Bol count?  Freaky 7’6" or whatever.  First stretch big who could hit 3’s and lead the league in blocks???

    Modern day: Curry, Lebron.

Larry Bird dominating the NBA in a black man’s league. He was like the Jackie Robinson for the 80s white man.

Faced prejudice because of the color of his skin. They said he was only a star because he was white.

And then he pulled out moves they had never seen before, and dominated like no other before him.

I agree w/ Everyone you guys named – Every single player named blew me away when I saw them & I have heard about the older guys….. I’m gonna pick a few guys who were on track to be All Time greats…. but were stopped or slowed by injury….. & it changed the course of NBA History……

    1) UNLV & Charlotte Hornet’s Larry Johnson….. Absolute Monster…. 6’7” 250 lbs meaner than a grizzly bear & the most explosive leaper I have ever seen for a man that size…… L.J. averaged 21 pts & 11 rebounds w/ a 52% FG% his first 2 years before a back injury struck in year 3….. he had a good career…. but he was Never the same – at Small forward the man avg 11 rebounds a game as a 22 y/o Rookie! …….  L.J. would have avg 30 pts/ game in his prime if he stayed healthy…….

    2) Orlando Magic’s Penny Hardaway …. Imagine if geneticists cross bred Magic Johnson & Kobe Bryant…. Penny was so smooth, so explosive…. Penny could hit the 3, blow by you & dunk on your Center & dish no look passes….. if Penny remained healthy & Shaq stayed the Bulls may not have had 3peat #2…. Penny & Shaq’s Orlando squad were the Only team to beat Jordan’s Bulls in the playoffs (1995) during their 8 year run……

    3) Charlotte Hornet’s Alonzo Mourning……. Mourning was absolutely ferocious at Both ends & he was a Physical monster…… Mourning was even meaner than his teammate L.J….. And just like Johnson, Alonzo Mourning Averaged 21.3 pts; 10.5 rebounds; 3.5 blocks & a 53% FG% his Rookie season thru his 8th year in the NBA….. Mourning was one of the greatest defensive centers & shot blockers of all time…..

Larry Johnson was the #1 pick of the 1991 NBA Draft….. Shaq was the #1 pick of the 1992 NBA Draft & Alonzo Mourning was the #2 pick….. Penny Hardaway was the #3 pick of the 1993 NBA Draft…… at the time it seemed like Orlando & Charlotte were set for a decade…..

his first year in the league it seemed like he had 5 dunks a game. His one man fast breakas were fun to watch. Probably the most explosive power forward to ever play
