XavierAllTheWayParticipantThunders loses again against an inferior for. Same old story…no defense especially against 3 point shots. Sad thing is they have the personnel to be a great defensive team but just no desires. Maybe that is the fault of billy Donovan…perhaps they should hire tom thibadeau

Hype MachineYou are right about the no-defense side of things. I’d add too much hero-ball by the stars, and a crappy supporting cast to the list.
Russell Westbrook is great….but he gambles like crazy on defense. He leads the NBA in transition points, but he’s also the biggest cherry-picker in the NBA. He could be a lock-down defender…but his mind is on the next possession.
Enes Kanter is the worst defender in the NBA…bar none. Watch how much intensity he shows chasing an offensive rebound or getting a good seal in the post. Then watch how slow he is to make defensive rotations. His stats are so misleading, and he’s not worth the money that OKC paid. I’m a Utah fan, and I have no qualms about getting rid of Kanter.
Donovan – College coaches can’t be expected to make an impact in the NBA. It’s the golden rule….never get a coach who has just retired as a player, and never get a college coach with no NBA experience. It’s apples and oranges.
Game Style – It’s way too predictable…there is too much hero-ball and defenses know what is going to happen because the offense only runs through 2 guys. Also, I’ve seen OKC play some horrible clutch-time basketball. When the game slows down, they’re terrible. Durant and Westbrook take ridiculous hero-ball shots that they wouldn’t take during the earlier stages of the game.
Supporting cast – Not strong enough…Adams is big and physical but lacks skill. Kanter is swiss cheese on defense. Collisson tries hard which is admirable, but he’s not very good. Dion Waiters is about as efficient as a refrigerator with a faulty seal and Ibaka seems to have lost a step on both ends of the floor.
No way this team beats the Warriors or Spurs in my opinion. Durant has one foot out the door, it’s like Lebron before "The Announcement".

Hype MachineYou should have read 1 more.post down the page before foolishly adding yourself to the ‘College Coaches in the NBA’ fanclub.
Does anyone else here really think College Coaches make good NBA coaches?
Or are these 2 the only ones left on that island?

frogmanParticipantWell it’s the coaching job that he has been doing not just the record. He went into a poor situation in Boston and has done an incredible job in two years with the assets he had.
Billy Donovan walked into a situation with two top 5 NBA players on the roster so clearly he will have a better record but has he actually done a better job than Stevens? Of course not. I could take that Thunder team to a decent record.

CynthiaParticipantI don’t deny that at all, Brad Stevens is an excellent coach and yes he was delt a lackluster team that he quickly is turning around. I’m just pointing out that statistically(which is what most people go off of) he doesn’t even crack the top 10.
0- Posted on: Fri, 02/26/2016 - 6:57pm #1045056
Hype MachineThese statistics are garbage cos theyre from the stone age..aside from a couple that havent even completed a full season yet.
Haha its impossible to debate something with Cynthia without getting str8 negs. Even when she makes outrageous claims like Bill Russell isnt athletic.
And now youre taking credit for my original comment that Brad Stephens in fact has a poor win/loss percentage.
I cant beat you Cynthia…so i want to join you. From now on, I’ll be undertaking a transformation.
Please refer to me as Mrs Hype Machine.

bigheavyParticipantI think most of the problem is coaching, as it has been for the last few years. Everything this team does is based on isolation plays for Russ and KD. If they had a coach that actually set up an offense they would have a championship. I keep hearing how bad the supporting cast is but I don’t agree. Ibaka and Adams are great defenders, you got offensive role guys in Waiters, Payne, Kanter and a knock down shooter in Morrow. Their system is flawed and that is the problem. These coaches they hire are not the right fit, they need someone who will come in and take control of the team because they have some nice pieces arond Westbrook and Durant, but you are never going to get anything out of them without the right coach.

I am an idiotParticipantBeing a C’s fan, I had to live through Pitino as well as Stevens. Most college coaches suck in the NBA.
Stevens is the exception that proves the rule (I think this year is more indicative of his ability than the lifetime winning %).
It is clear that the inmates rule the asylum in OKC. They’ll be out of the playoffs early this year.

markfitz14ParticipantKD is thinking about leaving in the back of his mind. The team is trying to not let it disturb the year but it is. Why go to FA if you are not considering leaving. I always think if a guy won’t resign now then he prbly is going to talk with other teams in the Offseason and that is not good.

Hype MachineIts impossible not to let something like that bother you.
It’s like the notice period after you’ve told your boss that you’re quitting
Impossible to give 100% effort. Heads not in it…hearts not in it.
Its going to get really ugly in OKC because without KD and Westbrook, they’ve got no assets whatsoever to rebuild from. And I rate the chances of either of them re-signing as close to 0%
I think they’ll go down with Stockton and Malone as the greatest duo never to win a championship together.
