I have to say, after Simmons apparent lackluster fire and attitude, I just wouldn’t spend the number 1 pick on him. That’s just my opinion.

He continues to struggle at the freethrow line and shooting outside shots. I really think going to LSU might have been a mistake. The holes in his game are obvious.

Let’s just go hypothetical here and say Ben Simmon’s TRULY WAS as talented Lebron, I still don’t think I’d use the number 1 pick on him. Not with an attitude and lack of passion like he has displayed.

Ingram is over at Duke balling, taking and MAKING big shots, hustling on both ends, and winning games, while Simmons is doing neither. If I’m using the number 1 pick on someone, you have to see the fire and intensity in game situations, and quite frankly, I’ve seen neither from Ben Simmons.

He should’ve gone to Kentucky. He, Murray, and Ulis would be fun to watch

No offense to Ingram, who is a very good player in his own right, but Simmons is still easily the #1 pick. It’s not his fault he plays for a snake oil salesman coach who is a good recruiter, but couldn’t coach his way out of a paper bag. The guy is averaging approximately 20ppg 12 rpg 5apg 2spg 1 bpg. What else do you want from him?

He’s 18 and still developing and obviously will take his lumps, and go through growing pains, but he is one of the most prolific prospects I’ve seen at the college level  in quite some time. If he ends up averaging 20ppg and 12rpg over the entire season he’d be the first to do that in the SEC since Shaq. While I don’t think he will be on Lebron’s level, I can see him being a very rich man’s Lamar Odom, and could be a top player in the NBA within the next 5-6 years.

Everyone was convinced without a doubt Simmons was the next great and maybe he still is, one game will not change my opinion of a player but I have watched him all season and I just don’t know how great he will be. Talent is not a question but I don’t think he has the desire. We shall see.

I hear everyone saying now he should of went somewhere else, why? So he could hide his flaws on a stacked team and we all say he he is the greatest thing we have seen. I looked at the Kentucky products Marquis Teague, Daniel Orton,  Dakari Johnson, Harrison’s Twins, and the list goes on, that their flaws were not as exposed and they were all overhyped because of the talent around them.  If you are truly great then the world will see it, whether you play for Kentucky or Western Kentucky. Everyone looks great next to 8 other All Americans and this one major reason why so many bad picks are made throughout the draft.

Great list of guys that hid their flaws but the list of successful is much, much, much longer.  He’s a great player now and would’ve been a great player anywhere. I just think he should’e gone elsewhere cuz there were much better options available to get him ready for the pros

Yeah, if you are good they will find you. Towns got 10ppg and 6.7rpg and 2bpg at Kentucky. He went number 1. While russell went number 2 being the do everything star. It doesn’t matter where you play, it matters if you can play. It is hard to see the killer instinct in college.Towns just seemed laid back, even the twolves didn’t know he had it in him until training camp and playing in the regular season. Wiggins has it occasionally and in tight situations but towns brings it everyday. You don’t really see that until you get in the NBA. If simmons was in the NBA he would be getting challenged in games and in practice. It is a different game when you go against anthony davis than when you go against a 2 star recruit from alabama.

I’m curious to see what Simmons would do on a team like Kentucky where he wouldn’t dominate the ball. Would he just stand around a lot? Thats what I see him do entirely too often at LSU. If he doesn’t have the ball, what is he doing?

Is he active? Does he crash the glass? Does he set screens and get other guys open? I’m seriously asking because nobody has ever said anything about it.

I still think he goes No. 1 because nobody will have the stones not to take him. I think Ingram ends up being a better player and fits easier into any team because of his skills but I’d say Simmons still goes 1.

I think he would’ve thrived at Kentucky because Calipari is great at molding his offense to fit his players’ strengths. Simmons would’ve played a role much similar to what Julius Randle played at Kentucky and would’ve done better at it.  Calipari wouldn’t allow Simmons to take plays off and I think the same could be said about all the other elite coaches (Bill Self, Coach K, Izzo, Pitino, etc.) Simmons would have learned the game and learned how to play off the ball much better elsewhere. A different coach wouldn’t have amended his struggles with shooting from the perimeter, but could have helped in teaching Simmons the game. All the elite coaches hold their players accountable for and won’t hesitate to sit their players if not giving 100% effort all game. I don’t think Johnny Jones is doing that at LSU and I’m not sure Simmons is getting better by playing for Johnny Jones.

I think the op is out of his mind.  You trash Ben simmons in his game the same night Ingram has like 8 pts and 10 TO in a bad loss.  Bottom line is this kid is avg 20 12 and 5 and we still dont know what he is capable of.  I bet arc12345 would have drafted Beasley over Rose because of his killer instinct.

Rose had the killer instinct…but quietly. There’s a way to do both. Simmons just doesn’t seem to have it.

Rose took over games multiple times at Memphis. He also had a pretty good run in the tournament. Simmons will be lucky to get to the tournament at this rate. Don’t get me wrong, Simmons has had great games, but his effort on defense and when he doesn’t have the ball is kind of alarming.

And to those who say it isn’t his fault his coach can’t coach…well…you knew that going in. So I don’t want to hear the sob story. He could’ve gone anywhere, but chose to go to LSU that hasn’t done much lately. If I were a 1 and done prospect, I’d be going to play for the best coach possible while still having a great shot to win. Duke, Kentucky, Maryland, or other schools that have a lot of returnees and can make some noise.

To think LSU was going to win a championship was hilarious. Especially since Simmons is a so called "facilitator" and not a scorer (which he should be for this team). When you’re facilitating to pretty average players, you’re not going to get super far.

There’s no way I would’ve advised taking Beasley with the number 1 pick with Rose being the hometown kid and being a gym rat. Beasley did have a great college season, but he was such a tweener. He went from 6’10 to being barely 6’8.

I really do think he’ll be a better Lamar Odom. Which is very very good! If he reaches his potential, which Lamar did not, then who knows how good he’ll be.

That being said, I’m not sure he’ll be a number 1 option. I don’t see him being a good enough scorer but again, who knows. I don’t see him hitting tons of clutch shots, but AGAIN, who knows.

What I do know is that Ingram WILL be a number 1 option and at least have the fire and guts to get it done himself with the game on the line. At least that’s what he’s going to go in trying to do. I’m not sure what I see Ben Simmons going in and being. Like a point forward Lamar type that is an awesome piece for a franchise, but not a cornerstone. Just my opinion.

Ingram has improved enough that this is debatable at least. In todays game that outside shot/3pt is so valuable in a player.

If I could talk to Simmons I would say "dude start shooting some threes, if for nothing else for some in game practice. Its great you want to play to your strngths and all but your team is out man. Start jackin them up" "Also swith hands you are a righty!"

LSU should start the 7footer.  He isn’t very good, but that doesn’t matter.  It would keep Simmons out of foul trouble early, it would mean he doesn’t have to defend centers all the time, it would the team at both ends.

Elbert Robinson, he has size.  It would mean Simmons or Victor has an easy player to score over in the paint.

I know the NBA was different back in 2003 but LeBron couldn’t shoot a lick his rookie year. Past 3 feet, LeBron’s FG% was under 35%

Lebron was a 75% FT tho and was actually younger then Simmons as a rookie.  Bron had the form and was shooting 35% from 3 by his 2nd year.

Simmons has no form and cant even hit FTs
