TravelinTravParticipantI came across this trade on yahoo sports.
According to the NY Daily News, trade discussions between the Cavaliers and Celtics would send Cleveland forward Kevin Love to Boston. Where the rumor goes from interesting to wow is with the Knicks as a third team and Anthony heading to Cleveland.
This is all I know what do you guys think?

The GoatParticipantI think if Anthony is going to waive his no trade clause, itd only be to the Cavs or the Clippers. I think the Cavs improve with this deal. I’ve never liked the idea of Love on the Cavs.
I don’t like the trade for Boston. Again, maybe just me not being a fan of Kevin Love, but I think they need to use their cache of assets to get an electric wing player and a shoblocker.
I think New York’s best move is to get multiple first round draft picks in trades and build around Porzingis – moving Melo can bring those picks. I wouldnt normally say no to a trade of a star player for picks, but I think its a matter of timing, Theyve resigned Melo with limited prospects of getting him help through the draft. They need to have two good young prospects come through together with Porzingis, preferably in the same year, then go get a star to add to them and make a run.

220ParticipantThe Celtics are in such a strong position that I doubt they rush their process to get a guy who only plays on the offensive side of the ball. The Celtics have one of the best records in the East, they have a ton of cap room, and thanks to the Nets they will have a top pick in this year’s draft. Danny Ainge has slowly rebuilt the Celtics and the East should be worried because they look like they’ll be dominate very soon.

WarblingSpamalopeParticipantI think Kevin love is a weapon wasted in Cleveland. He needs to be the focal point of the offense. He needs to not be standing in the corner so he can get back on the offensive glass. So i think the celtics could accomodate that, but depending on who they give up i doubt it makes them better. A full rebuild is the ballsy move the knicks have needed to do for ten years.
Melo isn’t a better option than Kevin love for Cleveland. He needs the ball and to be the focal point of the offense to have value. He has the same issues on defense and disengaging when he doesn’t get the ball on offense. Because i see the celtics as the only team that could win in this trade im not a fan of it.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantYou’ve never seen Melo play in INTL ball have you? He’s a nightmare playing off the ball when he actually has capable playmakers as teammates.

Bmore_DCParticipanti think its a great deal for all 3 teams…melo has to waive the trade clause though, and i dont think he would for any team. he loves NYC.

markfitz14ParticipantLast Summer I would have loved to get Love on the Celtics. I thought of him as one of the most prolific scorers in the League. After more time seeing him play with Lebron I see his holes more clearly. I am more than happy with a chance at a top pick and watching Stevens develop a young potential All Star.

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantKevin Love is the exact same player he has been his entire career. The only difference is opportunity. Love will never be a defensive stopper but he will get rebounds and block a few shots. If Boston were to acquire Love and install him as their first option his stats would return but probably at the expense of some victories.

phila9012ParticipantKevin would help the celtics. If you pair him with amir johnson, that covers his defensive short comings. They would also have a go to scorer as well. If you have him and isaiah thomas, you can contend in the east. I think they would need a third team so they could trade the nets pick(cavs don’t want it) plus bradley for love. Plus they have brad stevens as their coach, so he would be able to figure out how to use love.

Reptilian MonkParticipantKevin Love is a great rebounder, his secret is you have to assume everything is a miss. He even rebounds his body, that’s what he is building with choclate milk. Nutrients to refuel, protein to rebuild backed by science.

knicksfreakParticipantAs a Knicks fan I love how melo is playing this year and how he takes the heat off Porzingis. But if the rumors are true and we could get our future PG in Marcus Smart, and Brooklyn’s #1 pick this year I think they should pull the trigger. More picks are possibly on the table as well.
I don’t think Melo will waive his no trade clause but this is the kind of haul that would be worth trading him for.

HitsterParticipantK-Love would be spectacular in Boston but I couldn’t see Melo working well on the same team as LBJ and Irving. Melo needs the ball in his hands much more than K-Love does.

thetruth87ParticipantI could defintely see Melo working on the Cavs with LBJ and Kyrie. I think the notion that Melo "needs" the ball is so overblown. He’s never had a teammate who he could truly rely on to take the heat off of him. So he’s had a high usage rate out of necessity. With Melo not the focal point of the opponent’s defense I think he could really thrive in Cleveland. All those double teams, and the defense reacting to his every move will dissapate and that will leave him with a lot of wide open shots, and iso post touches where he could dominate.
Being a Knicks fan I was amazed when he took this sort of role on the Olympic team while playing with LBJ and others. He was the beneficiary of other players getting him open looks and drawing the defense’s attention, and quite frankly that is by far the best I’ve seen him play in his career. Melo’s biggest problem is while he is one of the best scorers in the league, overall he is not a superstar, and can’t carry a team on his own. But I really do believe that you can win a championship with him as your second or third best player.

Meditated StatesParticipantCeltics really do not need him if they are giving up a Brooklyn pick. He does not require a double team.

HitsterParticipantIf the Cavs felt that Melo was a more natural fit alongside LBJ and co – very interesting post by truth87 above about how well Melo played a specific role for Team USA. Then if the Cavs offered the Knicks a Melo for K-Love trade straight up, I’m sure Phil would snap it up to get a younger guy in who could be the Knicks focal point. Melo would have to waive his no trade clause but the chance to link up with LBJ and get onto a legit contender would be very tempting for him.

Inside ScoopParticipantWith the Celtics having three maybe four draft picks in this years draft, plus multiple picks in the next two drafts I don’t think Boston trades (Brookyln’s) pick in any of the next three drafts. This year along they could trade their pick 23rd overall or Dallas’s pick 19th overall (nba standings as of 02/14/16). Trading Lee, Smart and two draft picks would get you Kevin Love.
