IlladelphParticipantRecently I have been tinkering with my mock draft for 2016. I found that trying to rank 60 players in 2 rounds is kinda hard. There are a bunch of players that you know are coming out and will be drafted. Then there are a bunch more that will come out, and probably should not, and ranking them is very hard.
At any rate, I have some thoughts:
1. I think Brandon Ingram is the best player in the draft with the highest ceiling for his position, but I don’t think a GM will have the balls to pass on Ben Simmons. For that reason I have Ingram going behind Simmons.
2. Skal Labissiere is definitely coming out this year, and will be a lottery pick. This year’s draft is pretty weak outside the very top of the first round, and I have a very hard time seeing too many GMs passing on the guy. He has shown flashes of what he can become, and for those reasons I think he comes out, and is a lottery pick.
3. Buddy Hield is a fantastic college player, and he is a heck of a team leader, but I see him having bust potential in the NBA. I still think he will go in the lottery.
4. Caris Levert is being slept on a little bit, and his mid- first round position will look like a bargain in a couple of years.
5. 5 international players will be taken in the first round: Qi, Korkmaz, Bender, Luwawu, and Cornelie. The draft is weak, and teams are looking hard at Euro players this year. Outside of Bender, and possibly Luwawu, the other three wouldn’t get serious consideration in other years.
6. Wayne Selden is being slept on. Although I thought he was a bust his first couple of years at Kansas, he has developed this year and has been playing very well. I do think that he was over-rated in high school, but he is deserving of a late first round pick. If Kansas has a good tourney run, he will be drafted in round 1.
7. Cheick Diallo, Stephen Zimmerman, Diamond Stone even, might stay in school in other years. But again, weak draft. These guys are coming out and will be taken in the first round.
8. Malik Newman comes out for sure. Where he gets drafted is hard to say. I currently have him as early second, but if he continues to improve his play as the season winds down, I am going to move him in to late first round. I think he picked the wrong program to go to, and I think he may have believed his own hype a little bit. But he is looking better every month, and I think his ceiling is high.
Ok, that’s it for now. Please talk amongst yourselves. Comments welcome.

For_Never_EverParticipantI’m on the fence between Ingram and Simmons, even though as of right now I’m leaning towards Simmons more because I see him as a safer pick. But it really shouldn’t be clear cut as all the sports analyst are saying it is that Simmons is the first pick.

r377Participant5. I like Korkmaz, he might go in the lottery.
I have put in Ben Bentil in my mock draft. In the last month or so he has played some good games against nationally ranked teams…..
I think Alex Poythress goes undrafted…

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantWhat makes you think hield has bust potential? Just curious? If anything I’d say he is a very safe pick because you basically know what you are getting unlike a lot of these players who are being drafted strictly on what they might potentially develop into. By all accounts he has a terrific attitude and work ethic and has improved immensely every year he’s been in school. His skill-set should translate well to most NBA teams. I hink at the worst he is a solid role player in the jj redick mode which is definitely worthy of a lottery pick to me.

For_Never_EverParticipantAlso Jamal Murray if he goes where he is projected will be the steal of the draft. He is good at all aspects of the game for a PG. The x factor for him he has great size length and height for the position. Athletically he is sneaky good too. I don’t see him having any weaknesses.

r377ParticipantI like Jamal Murray too. Looks like a great shooter. I have him in my top 10

For_Never_EverParticipantI wouldn’t be surprised if a team that needs a PG decided take him over Kris Dunn. That saying a lot because I like Dunn, but Murray being able to shoot it is a game changer. I don’t see a weakness in his game, and he looks like the complete package.

GBeeParticipantI read your first thought and it immediately triggered a debate in my head about opinion vs prediction. I figure that if you think a player is the best prospect in the draft, then why not stand by your opinion and put him #1? That’s why I’m more interested in big boards than I am with mocks. With mocks, you’re just trying to predict what teams will do. With big boards, you’re giving your opinion on the players and how they stack up against each other. I honestly don’t care about how accurate a person’s mock is. When the draft is just around the corner, people respond to and make changes according to the same rumors and reports, throwing their own opinion to the wayside. But if a person’s big board reflects how a class eventually turned out, that gives more credence to that person’s ability to evaluate talent.
I personally don’t plan on doing a mock, I know I’ve "created" one, but I’m just using ,net’s format to chart my own big board.

Andrew1984ParticipantI personally think Simmons and Murray are the best two players in this draft and I would take them in that order, with Hield and Ingram vying for third. My choice would be Hield because there are fewer question marks about him. I know he can fill it up and I know he can excel as a go-to guy, I know he has poise in the clutch, and I know he can make perimeter shots at a high volume and with efficiency.
Obviously Ingram has his advantages too, but more unknowns.

ZachAttackParticipantHow could you say that Ingram is #4? Though I like both Murray and Hield. I would not say that they are better than Ingram. My top 5 would be
1. Ben Simmons
2. Brandon Ingram
3. Jamal Murray
4. Dragan Bender
5. Jakob Poeltl

PrecociousNeophyteParticipant1. It’s not whether a GM has balls or not if a team thinks Brandon Ingram is a better prospect then Ben Simmons then they will take him. It has nothing to do with having balls.
2. I disagree with Skal being a lottery pick. I think he goes somewhere between 15-25.
3. Buddy Heild will not be a bust. He cares way too much and works too hard to be a bust. He will slowly improve on his weaknesses every year.
6. Kansas going on a Tournament run has nothing to do with Selden’s stock.
8. Malik Newman picked the wrong program? Being coached by a great coach and getting a lot of playing time and good experience. Don’t understand why you would say that.
