bobbygillerAlright so I’ve got two trade frameworks to propose:
Trade 1: Boston sends Amir Johnson ($12 mil fully non-guaranteed salary for next season) along with James Young, the Celtics own 1st round pick this year and the C’s 1st round pick in 2018 in return for Danilo Gallinari.
Trade 2: Boston sends David Lee and his expiring contract along with RJ Hunter, the Dallas 1st round pick this year and the Memphis 1st round pick in 2018 in return for Greg Monroe.
Both of these trades allow Denver and Milwaukee to improve their lottery positions this year as both are non playoff teams, they unload their largest payroll commitments, add a young piece in Young and Hunter and add two additional 1st round picks each. If either team requests more in return the Celtics also own a small army of 2nd round picks including this years’ Sixers and Wolves pick which will both be two of the top five picks of the round.
From the C’s perspective they would have a starting 5 of Isaiah, Avery Bradley, Gallinari, Crowder, and Monroe with Smart, Turner, Sullinger, Olynyk and Zeller as depth along with Rozier, Jordan Mickey, the 3 Brooklyn picks and countless 2nd rounders coming as reinforcements down the line.
Moving forward, Gallinari and Monroe would significantly add to payroll but after subtracting Lee, Amir, Young, and Hunter along with allowing impending free agents Turner, Zeller, and Sullinger to walk while releasing Jerebko and his fully non guaranteed $5 mil salary the Celtics payroll for next year would be roughly $63.7 mil with a projected cap of $89 mil allowing Boston the flexibility of signing a max player on top of this greatly improved core.

dremill24ParticipantI think if you send Amir in the Milwaukee deal then the Bucks would have to think about it, but that’s about the only thing that makes sense. If Denver wanted to sell off Galinari for picks then maybe but from everything I’ve read, they wanna keep him as part of their core, and would therefore want to improve their pool of talent in a deal with him, not just get more picks.
I feel like you’re trying to improve the Celtics but I really think it’s lateral moves at the expense of a lot of picks. Galinari when healthy can help them, but adding Monroe in there I don’t think helps much. If you look at your projected lineup…Bradley and Crowder can’t guard all 5 guys. And rCrowder doesn’t protect the rim enough to really fit with Monroe.

mamadouParticipantI don’t like it, celtics are a small, short, inathletic team already.
2 one way/on ball players, that shouldn’t be the spirit/way of building that team with so much assets.
Take your time but make the right decisions for the next decade, see the warriors 2011.
Monroe never played a PO game, maybe for a good reason, gallo wasn’t exactly part of phenomenal knicks/nuggets teams, he also missed more than 220 games in his 7 years career….
Nuggets have themselves a lot of youth and picks, gallo is their franchise player, in his prime, career year, they have no business dumping him for late 1st rounders, IMO.

Fredette About ItParticipantAs it stands right now Boston is projected 8 picks.. top 5 from Brooklyn.. Mavs and their picks (high teens/low 20s) then second rounders which can draft and stash or package to move up but fact is This is one of the deepest teams in the league with no real bad salaries.. Lee is a free agent and Amir is a bit high.. But you got young guys like Rozier, Mickey, Hunter and Young who will be better then anyone at the end of the draft.. and they cant even get consistent minutes
They have to start packaging players in two for ones or three for ones, Theyre gonna lose David lee and thats fine.. pretty sure other free agents are Turner, Zeller and Sully.. all good role players maybe Sully demands more on the open market.. Brooklyns pick is top 5 and will bring in a highly touted wing.. so ypu have Jae who can play the 3 or 4 so that works in their favorite.. guards are pretty much set
I think they need that big time center and they have the parts and picks to get it done.. Olynik is a legit player but with this many assets ill throw out a swing for the fences trade
Marc Gasol… Top Center (top 2 with DMC).. here come the negs but… How many years are Memphis gonna give it with this crew.. I think this is the last year they try.. sure 5th in west but lets be honest and im pretty sure their owner knows they arent beating the warriors spurs or okc.. conley is a free agent.. zbo isnt the bruiser he was.. allen is older.. lee is ok as is green and chalmers, vincer, barnes are just old.. I could see Boston throwing a youth movement in Memphis way
Boston was able to do this with Minny years ago when people thought KG was untouchable.. Your never gonna get proper value for a player like Gasol but whats to say something along the lines of Olynyk, Smart, Young, Lee (expiring) and both mavs and celts picks.. a big haul but if your gonna rebuild theres some youth right there.. That would mean firesale for Memphis but how many years of mediocrity can ya take.. Celts roll out IT, Bradley, Jae, Amir, Gasol.. thats some good defensive unit there.. plus you have Brooklyns pick could be Simmonds or Bender to take amirs PF..and still have Rozier, Hunter, Mickey, Jerebko, (resign possibly turner, sully, zeller) or a bigger FA with cap going up.. Most people will say only way getting Gasol is by getting Brooklyns pick but i feel thats a good haul (like we seen when they did it for KG)

Fredette About ItParticipantWhen Garnett was traded he averaged 22, 13, & 4.. and was traded for Al Jefferson (young big with potential right up McHales alley) Telfair, Gerald Green, Gomes, Ratlifs expiring and a couple ok draft picks) so im basing that trade with something similar..
