princejamesParticipantThere has been alot of hate and crticism coming tours skia, and I understand why, he has under-performed this season, he has been extremely inconsistent, and he has not lived up to the hype surrounding him coming out of high school.
But we all have to start realising that he is just a freshman, who in my opinion needs time to develop into the great player he has the potential to become.
He has to improve his post skills, improve his mental and physical toughness, improve his ability to establish better post and rebounding position, improve his understanding of how to utilize his physical tools in ways that allows him to be a disruptive force and dynamic athlete around the rim, and quite simply, he has to develop a better understanding of how to play the game of basketball – AKA – Increase his basketball I.Q.
Alot of people are calling skai a bust, when the reality is that he is a talented and physically gifted freshman baskeball player who needs time to develop into the great player he has the potential to become
The one and done hype has essentially become a curse to a player with skai’s talents and abilities. Skai probably needs 3 to 4 years of college experience before he decides to become a pro,

ph90702At most, he will stay two years. However, I agree with you regarding patience. We live in a society that places too much emphasis on instant gratification.

princejamesParticipantI watched alot of guys there freshman year who didn’t look great there freshman year in college and ended up developing into great college and/or great NBA basketball players – For example:
- deron williams
- steph curry ( I didn’t think he looked like a future great pro his freshman season )
- Vince Carter
- Juan Dixon
- Deandre Jordan
- Will Barton
Some talented players will not achieve instant success for a variety of reasons and ultimately just need time to develop0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/28/2016 - 6:49pm #1039518

Hype MachineIm not hating on skal…but he wasnt recruited with ‘development time’ in mind.
Rather, Im hating on substandard scouting based on small sample size and a herd mentality whereby every draft website copied each other…
Its a case of scouts trying to get too clever by finding a rough diamond…when the obvious #1 pick has been there for everyone to see for the last 2 years.

princejamesParticipantHigher levels of competition truly exposes the true strengths and weaknesses that a talented prospect possesses. I never fall in love with the high school hype, because alot of times, players in high school dominate because they are more physically mature, more physically gifted, and more naturally talented then the majority of the high school compeition they face. Sometimes it’s much better to wait to a talented prospects gets to college and plays against equally talented and gifted athletes before we start the hype of who the best prospect really is. Also the wating period will allow scouts to give realistic scouting reports.

BallerScriptParticipantKinda like how some people are labeling D’Angelo Russell a bust when he hasn’t been a pro for even a year.

princejamesParticipantD’Angelo Russell has some bigtime flaws and weaknesses in his game that will potentially prevent him from being a good player in the nba
- He stuggles in traffic
- He’s a average finisher around the rim, he struggles finishing against players who possess great length, size and athleticism
- He struggles to create seperation off the dribble
- He lacks the first step quickness needed to get by defenders
- Physically he’s weak and can be overhelmed and over-powered by the physically strong players he plays against
- He’s more of a combo guard and not really a true point guard
- He really struggles defending the quicker point guards in the league and is a below average defender against the some of the best shooting guards in the league
- He at times is careless with the ball, turnover prone, and needs to improve as an decison maker, especially when acting as the primary ball-handler
- His overall point guard skills at this point of his career, look very average in the NBA
D’Angelo Russel has a long way to go, he’s talented, but I always thought he was overhyped on this website. nbadraft.net was comparing him to brandon roy and penny hardway. I thought realistically he reminded me of greivis vasqez, julius hodge, or reece gains
Jordan Clarkson might be the true future point guard for the lakers. he’s a better defender, slasher, scorer, and athlete
D’angelo is a great passer though and should spend alot of time in the gym this summer working on improving his game

sweaterflexParticipantSkal is a year old for his grade, making him the same age as Russell, and he dreams of rebounding as well as Russell did.

holefillers1ParticipantThat whole kentucky team is over hyped. It is starting to feel like whoever goes to Kentucky is viewed as the best player(s) in the draft. I would rather draft a guy who doubled his production during his sophmore year then draft one of these freshmen on potential. Potential is a good scouting tool when there is a tangible skill set like Embiid or D.Russ. guys like Skal, Chris Walker, they have no skill set. Just big athletic players. No skill set and no BBIQ = bust. Simple formula.

Bankroll PJParticipantIf you think Skal has no skill set you clearly haven’t watched him enough. His shot looks great and shooting one skill that translates across all levels, he has solid footwork in the low post, a great looking turn around fadeaway, and he’s actually a decent ball handler and passer for his size. Calipari stop playing him because he lacks the fight and rebounding that his team needs right now. Skal’s skill set is the only reason he’s still projected to be a 1st round pick right now. He just doesn’t know how to be effective at this level yet

SpaceghostParticipantWith all the negatives mentioned Skal is NBA bound THIS SEASON..2 reasons why.. 1st) His handlers or people in his corner are money chasers.and 2) BAM, Tai Wynard, Wenyan Gabriel, Sacha Killeya Jones. Do you really think Coach Cal has time to teach TOUGHNESS..naw i dont think so..Can he be GOOD yes WILL he be GOOD i dont see it.. He cant beat out Marcus lee and Alex Pothyress How is he gonna get on the court with Tough guys like Blake Griffin in the NBA. ( yes its a Joke). Only way Skal succeeds he gets drafted by the SPURS..
