According to reports David Blatt has been fired as head coach of the cavs. Thoughts on this?

I wish Jeff Van Gundy would coach the team. I think he could get creative with lineups.

Apparently the organisation knew Lebron wanted to be coached by a former player so they decided to promote Ty Lue.. They really could have went with some bigger name.. They are trying to please Lebron too much and it’s costing them since day 1 (See Klove trade).. I would have loved Jeff Van Gundy also..

Interesting that Lue is taking over as head coach and not just as the interim head coach.  They should have just hired him as head coach 2yrs ago when he applied for the job.  Let’s see if Lue can get Love more involved than Blatt did.

Ty Lue is/was one of the highest paid assistant/associate coaches in the NBA and after being one of Doc Rivers’ lead assistants was highly thought of so Cleveland are hardly promoting an unknown quantity.

I’d guess there has been some disharmony amongst Blatt and the senior players or Blatt has lost the respect of key players. Still surprised to see it happen now.

Unfortunate for Blatt.  He’s a good coach who was handcuffed by LeBron. Good X’s and O’s who wasn’t allowed to implement his system because LeBron just had to be the be all, end all.  I think he’d be a great hire for any team who’s willing to be coached.  I could see him taking a team on the cusp to the next level.  I’ve seen him squeeze the most out of much lesser talent, but with LeBron at the helm he was neutered.  Now you could say that Blatt could’ve just manned up, called LeBron out and held him accountable, but then his death sentence would’ve been written much quicker.  He was in a lose lose situation.  He wasn’t hired by Team LeBron.

In my time, LBJ’s easily been the most unlikable superstar I’ve witnessed. What a fcking egomaniac.  He just wants a lackey, a coach only in name so that he could call the shots unopposed.  I wish him nothing but the worst.  Enjoy watching more LeBron iso-ball Cavs fans.

Blatt will be a great hire for and young up and coming team (like the team he thought he would be coaching before Lebrons return) where he is allowed to coach instead of trying to please Lebron. I am surprised they didn’t just promote Lebron to player coach at this point. I am not sure how this move makes the Cavs better right now. Teams looking for coaches this off season will have some good proven options with the available coaches like Blatt, Thibodeau, and Brooks.

You couldn’t have said it any better… SMDH.

I literally laughed out loud while reading the article on ESPN… "LeBron wasn’t consulted about the move." You’d have to be a complete FOOL to believe that.

Not sure how he got handcuffed. Obviously it’s not the job he originally accepted, but I’m not sure how many coaches would not want to coach LeBron. He fooled people into thinking Mike Brown could be a head coach. He probably helped extend Spo’s job in Miami for a few more years. Being a good coach in one place doesn’t always make you a good coach in another and that applies to all sports. From what I have heard he wasn’t willing to put responsibility on any of their main 3 guys. If you can’t call out your best players, guys lose respect for you. If Blatt is too weak to voice his opinion then the best he is ever going to be is a guy that helps develop a team then gets fired when they need someone to get them over the hump. When you draw up out of bounds plays with your best player taking the ball out, it’s hard for guys to trust your judgement.

The only thing I hear about LeBron is that when things work out in Cleveland then people give credit to Blatt or Griffin. When things go bad, then LeBron is at fault because he is the coach and GM. Someone is 83-40 with a finals appearance in part 2 of LeBron’s return. All I want is some consistency in people’s opinions about him. Cleveland was contending with him and garbage without. Love and Irving didn’t know what the playoffs were before LeBron. Miami hasn’t been very good since he left and that’s with them lucking out on Whiteside and finding a nice player in Johnson. Then picking up guys like Green, Winslow, Deng, and Dragic and they are still barely above .500. There is a great chance Lebron takes his 4th different coach to the finals this year.

If Lue can get anything out of Love then it was a good hire. Love is an awful defender, so the only thing that makes it worth having him on the court is if he’s going to give you good offensive play. If not then they might as well play Thompson who at least gives you average defense and the same type of rebounding, then redistribute Love’s shots elsewhere. No matter what happens the Warriors and Spurs are better constructed teams than the Cavs. Wiggins and Blatt don’t make the Cavs better than either of those teams.

I laughed also when I saw the "Lebron wasn’t consulted about the move."  That’s complete horseshit.  The Cavs gave Lebron WAY too much power over the organization obviously.  They wanted to cater to him and it’s really hurting them.  Lebron is an all-time great and I don’t think he’s a jerk at all.  He’s a good guy who wants to win playing team ball but he is a complete egomaniac.  Sad to watch.

he has been to the finals like 6 straight years.  yeah those two chips he got was all Eric Spoelstra.

Blatt was not an effective communicator/motivator.  The guy sounded like a clown in the huddle, how could anyone take him seriously?

As an X and O guy maybe….maybe he can be an assistant somewhere before he takes over an NBA team…this ain’t soccer.

It’s clear Cleveland never was comfortable with Blatt from the start, which is dumb, if you were not sold on him than don’t hire them. So that’s pretty piss-poor mangement from Cleveland

However, I think Blatt was pretty bad maximizing the offensive talents of Kyrie and Kevin, clearly Love was just relegated to a spot up stretch 4, so Blatt wasn’t without fault, but I just don’t get firing a guy who got you to the finals, won a couple games in the finals down Love and Irving and this year they’re clearly the top team in the east.

I know nothing about Lue as a coach other than LeBron seems to like him, but that’s irrelevant, because if he can’t figure out how to get the trio of LeBron, Kyrie and Kevin to gel on offense, it’s sorta moot point.

I’m curious to see which other coach can maximize the three-some of LeBron, Love and Kyrie. In my opinion, they do not really fit together, as they need the ball a lot to provide their value. You need player who complement each other, like the Warriors or the Spurs. Speaking of the Spurs however also shows how difficult it is, as Aldridge (dominant 23+ scorer on Blazers) has take a step back in terms of his dominance on the offensive end. That shows how difficult it is to balance and maximize the talent of all your players, but given that the Spurs are winning there are no hard feelings.

well i never said it would be easy, and it’s not like all 3 can average 20 plus ppg, but they play very iso heavy with Lebron and Irving trading turns and Love just being a spotup shooter.

couldn’t they try an Irving/Love pick and roll and have LeBron opposite side look for backdoor cut or backscreen? Do something, move, make cuts, iso and standing around makes nobody fit together. Run an actual offense.

As a twolves fan, I want david blatt. He is a good offensive coach and should be good developing the players. Also he just dealt with all the pressure from the Cavs, so he should be able to handle pretty much anything now. Then if he could hire a defensive coach as his assistant coach to build a good defense, that would be great. He would be able to grow with the Twolves into a contender. Towns is a lot easier to deal with than Lebron.

Blatt signed for three years, and the fourth year was a Cavs option.  So he sort of got halfway through that.

As soon as LeBron signed with the Cavs, Blatt was on the way out.

While Blatt wasn’t the right coach for a LeBron team, Lue isn’t an improvement.

The next game is the two teams who made bad coaching moves, Bulls versus Cavs.  But for two teams with off the court turmoil, theya re very high in the standings.

This probably says Mozgov is gone, a trade or later as a free agent.

Not sure about Love, but if he was getting some of the blame and Blatt was getting the rest, then right now if the Cavs lose LeBron will have the blame on Love and he might be gone too.

GM LeBron, he might offer Love to the Knicks for his friend Carmelo.  That might actually be a good trade for both teams.
