valentine7 man rotation of
Mills
Delly
Exum
Simmons
Ingles
Bogut
Baynes
Could easily cause the US team difficulties in a gold medal game. Perfect team balance, passing and versatility.
I can’t see any European or South American teams competing at that high level either.
Note that many of the Boomers have NBA Finals experience.
Should Team US be nervous?

omphalosParticipantShould Team USA be nervous? No. Simmons too young, Exum coming off an ACL tear.
In 2020 we have a shot, especially if Thon Maker and Isaac Humphries work out.

barbabodomParticipantlol…you should watch more international basketball. Brazil, Argentina and at least five or six european NTs would beat Autralia right now. In 2020 maybe, but then it will be Canada the big contender.

The GoatParticipantAll of those players are pass-first types, even Baynes came through the Spurs system. Need another scorer, no? If Simmons becomes the superstar we hope and Thon Maker turns out to be a 20ppg NBA scorer then we’re a medal chance in 2020, but you’d have to say Bogut will only be held together with strapping tape by then. As mentioned in other posts, USA and Canada are still going to be tough, and there are a few French kids projected to be drafted high in the next few years. Stick them with Gobert and theres another tough team.

goldie92689ParticipantYou can’t rely on 20 year Olds to make an impact. Boomers have a fututre but their future isn’t now. Neither Exum or Simmons have any pro experience in a major role. Bogut is already past his prime. This team is all Patty Mills right now. They will be formidable when Maker, Exum and Simmons have some pro and National Team experience under their belts and one of them becomes a top 10 player while Mills is still near his prime. There are several National teams out there with great young cores

he_gets_bucketsParticipantLets be real.. most international teams get hyped when they have a couple NBA guys, super hyped if they’re All-Star calibre guys.. the ENTIRE US roster are All Star, Hall of Fame calibre players for the most part. Patty Mills is probably still the best player on that team with Exum coming off an ACL tear and being so young, and Simmons as well being so young. We would get roasted by the US. We would get roasted by Spain, even with an aging Gasol duo, Lithuania is always scary, Canada has more and better young talent right now than us in Wiggins, Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson, Jamal Murray, Kelly Olynyk, Nik Stauskas, Andrew Nicholson, Tyler Ennis, Dwight Powell, Kyle Wiltjer, Melvin Ejim, Trey Lyles, and I could reel off a bunch of teams that will give us Aussies major headaches. It’s far from a given we’ll even make a medal game in 2016, let alone be able to do anything scary against an always stacked US team.

Hype MachineI am the hype mahine after all.
Speaking of which….
Thon Maker has gone from overhypped to underhypped. Obviously he left the US to escape the attention as it probably had a negative effect on him.
Rumor has it that hes been insanely impressive this year….and has bulked up beyond recognition. I think hes still a good bet to be a 10x All Star.
But don’t take my word for it…see for yourself in his interesting new blog.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantI love the Aussie spirit but you are criminally underestimating how difficult it is to make 10 All Star appearances..
Since 1980, only 26 guys have done it and all of them are either already in or locks for the Hall of Fame, bar maybe Chris Bosh and Ray Allen if you wanted to argue that.
Kareem (19), Kobe (17), Duncan (15), Garnett (15), Shaq (15), Jordan (14), K. Malone (14), Dirk (13), Bird (12), Magic (12), M. Malone (12), Hakeem Olajuwon (12), Isiah Thomas (12), Barkley (11), Erving (11), Ewing (11), Iverson (11), Lebron (11), Wade (11), Ray Allen (10), Bosh (10), Drexler (10), Kidd (10), Pierce (10), D. Robinson (10), and Stockton (10).
Some noticable guys who didn’t, Vince Carter, Steve Nash, Scottie Pippen, Reggie Miller, Chris Mullin, Chris Webber.
I like Thon, I think he’ll be decent but he isn’t going to be anywhere near as good as any of these guys, these rumors about him "bulking up beyond recognition" make me chuckle because I saw video of him from a few weeks back and he is still stick thin in his legs, with no significant difference in his upper body frame either. Once he gets to college and NBA he is going to get knocked around like crazy. He is no where near the talent Durant was so he won’t be able to get by on that, his body is really going to hinder him at the next level. Again, I like him, but 10x All Star? Even for a Hype Machine thats excessive. For the sack of Aussie basketball I hope he is that sort of transcendent talent, but at this point I am skeptical of his ability to impact the game immensely at the next level, especially with guys like Perry Jones III flaming out after similarly hyped prep school careers.
*Note: I excluded guys like Melo, Chris Paul, Durant who are close but not quite there from noticable guys who didnt because they are on the cusp of doing so and will have by the end of their careers

European BasketballerParticipantMany European national teams are better than Australia. So no, Australia will not be in the gold medal game.
