I was thinkin about this trade the other day. New York send carmelo anthony, and kevin serapin to DET for B Jennings, Ilyasova, and Meeks and and a 2nd round pick. This gives new york some salary cap relief, as well as pick, and they can build around Porzingis. Getting players to come to NY shouldn’t be an issue so with the cap relief they should have an issue signing in the off season.

With Detroit this gives them a go to player who  can play 3 or 4 As well as also give them a veteran who is a sharpshooter who can score at will. As for Serapin, he can score very well around the basket so when the hack a drummond starts. At least serapin can score, and shoot free throws well. This will also shoot detroit into contenders in the east. Gives them a  good trio with Jackson, Drummond and Anthony.  They would be the best pick n roll in the league with Anthony, KCP and Morris on the wings and Drummond on the roll

    Thoughts?

You should never make trades involving your own team because almost always do people overrate their own players on their team. Jennings is worth nothing until he is healthy and starts showing something, Ilyasova and Meeks have next to zero worth. I don’t love Carmelo but the Knicks could get a way better deal for him than that trainwreck.

Spot on. Getting tired of biased fans and their farfetched trade senarios.

The conversation between these two teams for Melo starts with Johnson and a future 1st rounder, I don’t see it happening.

Trade ideas are fun, but that one was not good.

The annoying part of Carmelo trades, the no-trade clause which makes many unlikely trade ideas impossible.

Even if Anthony wanted Detroit, the Pistons don’t have young players or picks to deal.

Hibbert and Randle to New York, Carmelo to Lakers, that is at least slightly possible.  Knicks get a young prospect who was a high pick plus a large ending contract, and Carmelo might accept a trade to LA.

Financially, Hibbert and Randle work. As an L.A. fan… NO!!! Carmelo has never been on a top team. He doesn’t lead teams to championships. There’s probably a situation where he could be part of a top team, but he’s concluding his prime and no one’s figured what mix of players works with him. He’s also one of the highest paid players. He’s worth something, but his win-loss history and contract bring his price tag way down from what his skill deserves.

I am glad everyone seems to be off the Carmelo hype train now and realizes he is a very good player but not a good team member, how can you be an all-star if you’re not a good team member?

He used to only play really hard when on team USA or in all-star games, when guys like Lebron would lift his game up and he’d feel teh need to show how much talent he has, unfortunately, he never realized he needs to do that night in and out.  He’s the classic only get up for big games talent, meaning he wants to be a star, but not do star-like things like make everyone around you better.  If his teammates are trash he won’t encourage them, but will likely be one of the first to hang his head.

Thats why you respect guys like AI, who took a bunch of nobodies to the Finals, and unfortuantely, guys like TMac (a little unfair since he never had Kobe’s teammates), Carmelo, and right now unfortunately Anthony Davis, can’t get their teammates to help overcome obstacles and win when tough games.

Having said taht, today I saw him get in Derrick Williams ear after he missed a FT, and then you see Derrick Williams feed off that encouragement and not be afraid to take over the game.  I think Melo’s teammates are intimidated by him.  Melo doesn’t know how to be a teammate, so the other guys are afraid to outshine him because, Melo is the "star" but doesn’t support his teammates when they do well.

Now, I’m starting to see him get older and kind of sit back, be thankful that Porzingis is taking spotlight away from him, and start to encourage his teammates to do well.  Its a nice sign, shows maturity on his part.

I just never liked his personality on the court.

To give another example its like Roy Halladay in baseball.  He was a stud, but Blue Jays pitchers used be afraid to ask him anything, and his personality was such that he just minded his business.  Especially in basketball, you got to encourage your teammates.  Thats why you always have to respect Lebron’s on the court leadership.

In all three post…you guys mention nobody any team would want.  Hibbert?  Jennings? Meeks? Serapin?  Even Melo.  Melo can put up some good numbers…but his time in the league, what has he done?   I wouldn’t trade for Melo.

Here would be a good trade for the Knicks…

Trade Carmelo across town to the Nets.  The Knicks are rebuilding around Porzingas and could use some younger assets.  Getting rid of some big contracts would help too…

The Nets don’t have a first round pick this year, and have no star to build around.  They need to be relevant again, even if they might not win a title…

The Nets get Carmelo Anthony and Jose Calderon.

The Knicks get Joe Johnson and his ginormous $24 million expiring contract plus some promising youngsters in Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Bojan Bogdanovic.

The Nets can retool around Carmelo, Brook Lopez, Thad Young, and Jarrett Jack.

The Knicks, after this season, will have a ton of money coming off the books and a couple of decent wing prospects to use with Porzingas.

This probably hurts the Knicks this season but could help in the future.  Especially if they can get a TOP free agent in the summer of 2016 or 2017.  They lose their top point guard in Calderon, but they get to see relatively soon if Jerian Grant has any potential for the future.

I could see this potential trade working out for BOTH teams.
