 Pretty surprising move to me as I don’t follow the Sixers much.  Has he been that bad since returning from the acl?  Apparently it’s being done to make room for Ish Smith who they are bringing back for two 2nd round picks.  Are Canaan and TJ really in their plans more than Wroten was?

Am I the only one who did not see Wroten’s "major upside?" I thought he might improve, but he always seemed like an inefficient, high volume scorer on a bad team, not an up-and-coming major talent. 

This tells us a lot about the mindset of the front office regarding Wroten. They have several d-league talents on their roster that they could have let go, but they let go of Wroten. Maybe they are trying to shift the culture and Wroten would be a major hindrance to the development of that culture?

 Philly needs a point guard.  Ish Smith ia a pg who has worked okay in the past with the Sixers.  Guess he’s the best they can get off of the scrap heap without giving up anything.  As for Wroten, it’s no big loss.  I don’t think anyone ever saw him as being a major piece going forward.

Yes great move indeed by Mr. Colangelo. It is about accountability, responsibility and most important for Philly winning. Look Wroten is a great talent, has some unique skills but since he is in the league he is a minus, a big minus. Low fg%, absurd ft% and high turnover rate and he is so selfish, yes empty stats without help for the team. Since he came back he played bad, but the way he pressed it was not tolerable. His 5 minutes shifts were filled with turnovers, bad shots and bad body language. If this is your premiere guard then wtf?! On the other hand Wroten has to start understanding he will never be the one player, a rotation player in the L is his ceiling.

This is why the Sixers will not get better in the forseeable future. Every time they get a decent player they trade him or let him go via free agency. You can pile on all the rookies and DLeaguers you want, but you got to keep the good ones, something they’ve yet to do. It’s hard to build chemistry when half your team is different every single year.

On top of that, he shoots FTs like an unskilled big man. He’s athletic but he’s a piss poor defender, one of the WORST in the league last year which led to him having the worst RPM among all guards who got starter’s or near starter’s minutes last year. So lemme rephrase that so that some of you might understand. There wasn’t a single guard in the league who had a larger net negative impact on his team than Wroten.

Who cares if he was their leading scorer? He made an awful team worse when he was on the floor. You look at how inefficient he was (sub .500 TS) and it made no damn sense for him to be chewing up as many possessions as he did, but there he was hogging the ball to the tune of a 31% usage rate. To put that into perspective, here are some of the names that take up that % of their team’s possessions last year: Westbrook, Harden, Cousins, Lebron. Those guys’ USG rates are justified. Wroten’s is laughably inexcusable. So if you want to know why he was their leading scorer in the games that he played, it’s because of a ridiculously high and unjustified usage rate aka horribly inefficient, high volume of possessions. What’s even crazier is that despite just coming off of injury and being rusty, he had an even higher USG rate in the games that he played this year, while putting up putrid numbers in the process. That is insane and is a sign that a player is, among other things, clueless of his own limitations and a team concept. It’s like dude basically said, “screw building chemistry, easing myself back into the fold or helping these young guys develop. I’m gonna play my game and get mine.” I bet Colangelo took a look at how Tony’s play impacted the team and immediately sought out ways to get rid of him.

 He’s a garbage player and 6ers won’t miss him. Neither will the league. It’s unfathomable to me how people can watch him and still be intrigued. I mean this is the 2nd time before his rookie contract was over that he was essentially let go for nothing (top 50 protected 2nd rounder is basically nothing). He could’ve easily been included in the Pels deal, but they didn’t want him. You look at the entire package and what team could use that? Low IQ, ball-dominant guards who can’t shoot or defend aren’t in demand. Neither are slashers who don’t even finish well. Combine all that in one player and that screams D-League, China or the Ball Up tour. Not even Europe outside of the lowest of the low levels could use that.

What he is is an electric athlete with a lot of guts, but he is not even close to being a point guard, nor can he shoot, or play off the ball. There is no NBA role that he can fill.

He is only suited to being the star of the team with the ball in his hands all of the time, yet he isn’t good enough to do that in the NBA.

He seems like a great kid, and I think that he will make millions playing basketball somewhere outside of the NBA.

As for getting back Ish, I think that this corrects the one mistake that Hinkie has made. We never should have let him go in the offseason. Now we had to pay a premium for that mistake. You live you learn. 

I think that Ish will settle us down right away and reduce the chaos in the back court. This is a great move for Okafor and Noel, who need competent guard play to develop. If nothing else, Ish Smith is a heady and competent guard.
