UncledrewParticipantNot a lakers fan but I’m excited for them if they get to keep there pick. I think when the Lakers are competitive it makes the league more exciting. With that said the Lakers will finally get a chance to fix there small forward problem. The 2 players they could draft in the top 3 to solve their small forward issues in event they dont get a chance at Ben Simmons is Jaylen Brown and Brandon Ingram. There stats through their first 11 college games.
Brown: 14 ppg 5.4 rpg 1.5 apg .6 spg .4 bpg 25.5 mpg
Ingram 15 ppg 5.5 rpg 1.5 apg 1.5 spg 1.5 bpg 28 mpg
Their stats roughly look the same neither has dominated, but they both have had their bright spots and showed nice potential. The main difference is Ingram shoots 47 percent vs 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3 vs 26 percent from Brown. Ingrams defensive numbers show he’s either more active or oppurtunistic on that side of the ball and overall I like Ingrams potential more with his 7’3 length and rangy offensive ability. I think he’s more comfortable with the basketball at 6’9 than jaylen is at 6’7. He fits in as a nice off ball complement to Russell at the point and will give Randle more lanes to get to the hole and operate in the paint. I think if the decision for the Lakers comes down between these two guys I think Ingram is their guy. Who you taking?

cheetosjalapeno17ParticipantThe biggest needs of the Lakers are a defensive C and an SF that can play off the ball, with that said the obvious number two choices after Simmons are Ingram and Brown. I would lean towards Ingram because he has the higher potential while also fulfilling a need for the Lakers. His shooting will create spaces for D’Lo to operate and it will give Randle some room to breathe in the paint.
An interesting question though, if the Lakers luck into Simmons, does Randle turn into trade bait? I think Simmons is more of a 4 than a 3 and even if you play him on the 3, Randle and Simmons playing together would be a nightmare in Today’s Pace and Space NBA.
What do you guys think?

ZachAttackParticipantIf the Lakers get the 3rd pick… would you use it on Poeltl? Since they have 2 pretty good guards right now anyways.
Poeltl seems like a perfect fit with LA.

MopgrassParticipantI’ve been saying Ingram to the Lakers on here for a bit. He can play off the ball for now, but eventually, he’d be the guy.
I don’t know how they get their center. I’m wondering if they can stomach tanking next year too. Fans might riot, but the following pick is also top 3 protected.
If they tanked one more time, not only would they have a lottery pick from the Tatum/Giles draft class, but the 1st draft pick owed to Orland becomes two 2nd round picks. Really, there’s a lot of reason to do it. But will they and should they?

HitsterParticipantIngram would be my current pwersonal preference at 2, so I’d have to say the Lakers take him. With his length they’d get a potential lockdown defender at SF and having MWP there as some sort of mentor would be useful to him too.

SteezGawdParticipantLong, good shooter (like his release) at first when I saw him play Kentucky he looked really slow and awkward and I didn’t understand the hype. (Same with Ben Simmons, first saw one if his high school mix tapes on YouTube and was confused by the LBJ comparisons outside of height, he didn’t look explosive and athletically was nowhere near LBJ of the this years cavs let along a young LBJ) but as I continued to watch them I understood as Ben’s passing ability makes me hope that somebody does the right thing and takes a page out of pat Riley’s book and lets him play point guard and rips a page out of van gundy’s book and treats him like he’s Dwight and surrounds him with shooters and let the "Magic happen".
See what I did there? Magic? Pat Riley? Van Gundy and Dwight Howard…..? Anybody? Lol

bmac697ParticipantI’d go with Ingram over brown just on teams needs. I prefer Brown as a prospect over Ingram, haven’t seen enough of Ingram to say otherwise, but I feel Ingram is a better suited SF for this lakers than brown who like someone said earlier doesn’t seem to be effective without the ball. If brown is going to be you lock down wing defender who can slash and attack sure go with brown, but I think the lakers team will go with more of a shooting scorer than a slasher just IMO. The only problem going with Ingram, you would have a weak defensive team IMO, clarkson, Russel Ingram and Randle doesnt scream lock down defence. If the lakers were able to offer Whiteside a max contract and he accepts if, that will soften the blow of poor defence but right now the lakers are in rebuild and they just need to add any talent, whether through draft of free agency. They have too many ball handlers right now, Ingram would give them some floor spacing and a little more offence from the SF position.

TeslaBallerParticipantYour spot on about Ingram but I hate to tell you this, you are a Lakers fan and that’s ok. There’s nothing wrong with being a Lakers fan, as long as you admit it.
How do I know your a Lakers fan.
1. Your excited for them to keep their top 3 pick.
2. You think the NBA is more exciting when the Lakers are competitive.
The idea that any league is more exciting when any 1 team is competitive doesn’t make much sense and sounds silly, unless your a fan of said team. Otherwise why not Chicago, Utah or New York? Why the Los Angeles Lakers….because you’re a fan of the Lakers and again that cool but you have to admit it to yourself.
So please do me and more importantly yourself a favor. Find something purple and gold to wear, climb the steepest hill or highest mountain in your city and scream from the bottom of your heart and at the top of your lungs: I AM A LAKERS FAN AND I DON’T CARE WHO KNOWS!!!!
I guarantee you will feel better brother and I want you to know that while I am not a Lakers fan, I do accept and respect your decision to support the Los Angeles Lakers.
P.S. Just jokes homie. Hope this post doesn’t offend you or any other Lakers fan. The views and opinions expressed in the preceding post are that of 1 man and do not reflect the views and opinions of nbadraft.net it’s parent company, affiliates or subsidiaries.

UncledrewParticipantNah lol I appreciate your post though but honestly I’m not a laker fan. My favorite player until the last couple years was kobe but really if they suck forever won’t bother me in the least. For years I’m just used to hearing the Lakers in nba talks it’s weird not to. Really I’m a cavs fan and that’s only because kyrie plays for them. I wish they would win the championship but it’s looking like the Warriors ain’t having that.

Hype MachineWhy is Jamal Murray not in the scenario? Looks better than both their current guards.
D’angelo and Clarkson are nice….but if Murray is the BPA (highly possible) then you can share all backcourt minutes between the 3.
